Seth Jennings 72a9826b45 staging: zcache: fix serialization bug in zv stats
In a multithreaded workload, the zv_curr_dist_counts
and zv_cumul_dist_counts statistics are being corrupted
because the increments and decrements in zv_create
and zv_free are not atomic.

This patch converts these statistics and their corresponding
increments/decrements/reads to atomic operations.

Jonathan Cameron 8f9cde23c3 staging:iio:adc:adt7310/7410 sticking plaster fix for broken event attrs.
Neither of these drivers has ever been anywhere near the iio abi.
Probably as a result of this the fact they had two event groups
each was not picked up when we restricted IIO to having only
1 event line per device (as part of the chrdev merge set).

As such these definitely didn't work before. This patch squishes
the only element from the 'comparator' event line that isn't in the
'interrupt' one into it and kills off the 'comparator' one.

Ultimately both of these drivers belong in hwmon not IIO and are just
waiting here because I don't want to kill off a driver that may
prove useful to someone. (Ultimately I will ask Greg to scrap
these two if no one steps up to deal with them.)

Jonathan Cameron 9214cc6e13 staging:iio:adc:ad7606 unwind use of is_visible for attrs.
This is the most controversial of this set of is_visible removals.
There are two conditions controlling availability of attrs resulting
in 4 different attribute groups.

Still for a few more lines things are clearer to read to my mind.

Lars-Peter Clausen a046c1e866 staging:iio:events: Use non-atmoic bitops
We always hold the waitqueue lock when modifying the flags field. So it is safe
to use the non-atomic bitops here instead of the atomic versions.

The lock has to be held, because we need to clear the busy flag and flush the
event FIFO in one atomic operation when closing the event file descriptor.

Lars-Peter Clausen 0a769a9533 staging:iio: Factor out event handling into its own file
The core iio file has gotten quite cluttered over time. This patch moves
the event handling code into its own file. Since the event handling code is
largely independent from the core code the only code changes necessary for
this are to make the moved iio_device_register_eventset,
iio_device_unregister_eventset and iio_event_getfd functions non static.

This has also the advantage that industrialio-core.c is now closer again to

Hello,

The header file drv_interface.h was only used locally, hence there's no need

This patch cleans up the coding style in
drivers/staging/vt6656/wpactl.c to closer match the generally accepted
kernel CodingStyle. It is by no means a "make it perfect" patch, but
it does get the file a fair bit closer to matching the accepted style

configure their editors to maintain a consistent style - it was a
mess).

Besides pure style cleanups I also took the liberty of removing some

Markus Grabner 0ca5488806 staging: line6: separate handling of buffer allocation and stream startup
There are several features of the Line6 USB driver which require PCM
data to be exchanged with the device:
*) PCM playback and capture via ALSA
*) software monitoring (for devices without hardware monitoring)
*) optional impulse response measurement
However, from the device's point of view, there is just a single
capture and playback stream, which must be shared between these
subsystems. It is therefore necessary to maintain the state of the
subsystems with respect to PCM usage. We define several constants of
the form LINE6_BIT_PCM_<subsystem>_<direction>_<resource> with the
following meanings:
*) <subsystem> is one of
-) ALSA: PCM playback and capture via ALSA
-) MONITOR: software monitoring
-) IMPULSE: optional impulse response measurement
*) <direction> is one of
-) PLAYBACK: audio output (from host to device)
-) CAPTURE: audio input (from device to host)
*) <resource> is one of
-) BUFFER: buffer required by PCM data stream
-) STREAM: actual PCM data stream

The subsystems call line6_pcm_acquire() to acquire the (shared)
resources needed for a particular operation (e.g., allocate the buffer
for ALSA playback or start the capture stream for software monitoring).
When a resource is no longer needed, it is released by calling
line6_pcm_release(). Buffer allocation and stream startup are handled
separately to allow the ALSA kernel driver to perform them at
appropriate places (since the callback which starts a PCM stream is not
allowed to sleep).

Larry Finger 86587b671b staging: r8712u: Simplify semaphores
I am preparing to convert this driver from semaphore to mutex locking,
The first step has been to eliminate a number of semaphores that were
initialized but never used, and one whose only use was a single "up"
after initialization. A total of 9 semaphores were removed in this process.

One other change was to remove some inline semaphore routines that were
unused.

In addition, several cases had the following structure:

down()
if () {
   ...
}
up()

The locking overhead was reduced by moving the up/down inside the if
block.

Dan Magenheimer 14a3cd58dd staging: ramster: ramster-specific new files
New files for ramster support: The file ramster.h declares externs
and some pampd bitfield manipulation. The file zcache.h declares
some zcache functions that now must be accessed from the ramster
glue code. The file ramster_o2net.c is the glue between
zcache and the o2net messaging code, providing routines called
from zcache that initiate messages, and routines that handle
messages by calling zcache. TODO explains future plans for merging.

Dan Magenheimer 0fb3860a82 staging: ramster: ramster-specific changes to zcache/tmem
In tmem.[ch], new "repatriate" (provoke async get) and "localify" (handle
incoming data resulting from an async get) routines combine with a handful
of changes to existing pamops interfaces allow the generic tmem code
to support asynchronous operations. Also, a new tmem_xhandle struct
groups together key information that must be passed to remote tmem stores.

Zcache-main.c is augmented with a large amount of ramster-specific code
to handle remote operations and "foreign" pages on both ends of the
"remotify" protocol. New "foreign" pools are auto-created on demand.
A "selfshrinker" thread periodically repatriates remote persistent pages
when local memory conditions allow. For certain operations, a queue is
necessary to guarantee strict ordering as out-of-order puts/flushes can
cause strange race conditions. Pampd pointers now either point to local
memory OR describe a remote page; to allow the same 64-bits to describe
either, the LSB is used to differentiate. Some acrobatics must be performed
to ensure local memory is available to handle a remote persistent get,
or deal with the data directly anyway if the malloc failed. Lots
of ramster-specific statistics are available via sysfs.

Note: Some debug ifdefs left in for now.

Dan Magenheimer ba351b02ab staging: ramster: local compression + tmem
Copy files from drivers/staging/zcache. Ramster compresses pages
locally before transmitting them to another node, so we can
leverage the zcache and tmem code directly. Note: there are
no ramster-specific changes yet to these files.

(Why copy? The ramster tmem.c/tmem.h changes are definitely shareable
between zcache and ramster; the eventual destination for tmem.c
is the linux lib directory. Ramster changes to zcache are more substantial
and zcache is currently undergoing some significant unrelated changes
(including a new allocator and breaking zcache-main.c into smaller files),
so it seemed best to branch temporarily and merge later.)

Dan Magenheimer 1135ca9c86 staging: ramster: cluster/messaging foundation
Copy cluster subdirectory from ocfs2. These files implement
the basic cluster discovery, mapping, heartbeat / keepalive, and
messaging ("o2net") that ramster requires for internode communication.
Note: there are NO ramster-specific changes yet; this commit
does NOT pass checkpatch since the copied source files do not.

(Why copy? This particular part of ocfs2 has never been broken out
for non-ocfs2 use before, some (small) changes are required for ramster
to use that code, and ramster is currently incompatible with real
ocfs2 anyway (requires !CONFIG_OCFS2_FS). Before ramster can be promoted
out of staging, we will need to work with the ocfs2 maintainers to
see if the code interdependencies can be merged, but for now, for
staging, this seemed to be an expedient way to make use of the ocfs2
core cluster code while still incorporating necessary changes for ramster.)

LMK should not directly check for task->mm. The reason is that the

Grabbing tasklist_lock has its disadvantages, i.e. it blocks

For LMK, it is sufficient to surround tasks list traverse with
rcu_read_{,un}lock().

Dan Magenheimer e8b4553457 zcache: Set SWIZ_BITS to 8 to reduce tmem bucket lock contention.
SWIZ_BITS > 8 results in a much larger number of "tmem_obj"
allocations, likely one per page-placed-in-frontswap. The
tmem_obj is not huge (roughly 100 bytes), but it is large
enough to add a not-insignificant memory overhead to zcache.

The SWIZ_BITS=8 will get roughly the same lock contention
without the space wastage.

The effect of SWIZ_BITS can be thought of as "2^SWIZ_BITS is
the number of unique oids that be generated" (This concept is
limited to frontswap's use of tmem).

Rob Clark 9a0774e099 staging: drm/omap: multiplanar and YUV support
Add support in framebuffer objects for other color formats and multi-
planar YUV (NV12). Since this requires changing the API between the
plane and fb for getting scanout information (paddr, etc), take
advantage of the opportunity and put in place a way to allow fb's to
be unpinned when they are not being scanned out. Now, before start
of scanout the plane calls omap_framebuffer_pin() which takes care
to pin all the backing bo's, then omap_framebuffer_update_scanout()
however many times to update the scanout address(es), etc, and then
when finished omap_framebuffer_unpin().

Rob Clark bb5c2d9aaa staging: drm/omap: add drm_plane support
Because framebuffer layer and overlay scanout video pipes are basically
thing in OMAP display subsystem (the only difference being that the first
video pipe does not support scaling or YUV formats), much of the CRTC
code is pulled into the plane implementation, and a private plane object
is used by the CRTC object. This avoids code duplication between the
plane and CRTC.

Mark Allyn ff3d9c3c90 staging: sep: SEP update
This is basically a rewrite so there isn't a nice easy to present way of
providing this as a patch series. This patch is a pull of Mark's new driver into
the upstream staging area. On top of that are a series of patches by
Andy Shevchenko to make it build on the current tree, fix a few things and
even get it passed sparse.

The new driver supports the kernel crypto layer, passes the coding style checks,
passes human taste checks and has proper kernel-doc formatted comments.

I've then folded back in some later fixes it was missing that got applied to
to the kernel tree.

This should be ready for more serious review with a view to migration from
the staging tree shortly.

Lars-Peter Clausen 7933514043 staging:iio: Drop {mark,unmark}_in_use callbacks
These callbacks are currently used by the individual buffer implementations to
ensure that the request_update callback is not issued while the buffer is in use.
But the core already provides sufficient measures to prevent this from happening
in the first place. So it is safe to remove them.

There is one functional change due to this patch. Since the buffer is no longer
marked as in use when the chrdev is opened, it is now possible to enable the
buffer while it is opened. This did not work before, because mark_param_change
did fail if the buffer was marked as in use.

Lars-Peter Clausen 869871b58c staging:iio: Drop buffer mark_param_change callback
Right now we have a mark_param_change callback in the buffer access
functions struct, which should be called whenever the parameters (length,
bytes per datum) of the buffer change. But it is only called when the user
changes the buffer size, not when the bytes per datum change. Additionally each
buffer implementation already keeps track internally whether its parameters
have changed, making the call to mark_param_change after changing the buffer
length redundant. Since each buffer implementation knows best when one of its
parameters has changed just make tracking of this internal and drop the
mark_param_change callback.

Kevin McKinney 221fd753dd Staging: bcm: Fix an invalid dereference to a kmalloc in IOCTL_BCM_BULK_WRM
Variable IoBuffer.InputLength is chosen from userspace,
and can therefore be less than the intended size. In this
case, the memory from the kmalloc call is eventually cast
to a PBULKWRM_BUFFER. If the IoBuffer.InputLength does not
meet the minimum size of PBULKWRM_BUFFER, then we will get
a kernel Oops. To resolve this issue, this patch verifies
IoBuffer.InputLength meets the minimum size before invoking

Robert Love 11980c2ac4 ashmem: Anonymous shared memory subsystem
The anonymous shared memory (ashmem) subsystem provides a
Unix-y,file-based shared memory interface to user-space. It
works like anonymous memory (e.g. mmapping fd=0) except if
you share the file descriptor via the usual means, you will
share the mapping. The shared memory can be accessed via both
mmap or file I/O. The backing store is a simple shmem file.

Additionally, ashmem introduces the concept of page pinning.
Pinned pages (the default) behave like any anonymous memory.
Unpinned pages are available to the kernel for eviction during
VM pressure. When repinning the pages, the return value
instructs user-space as to any eviction. In this manner,
user-space processes may implement caching and similar
resource management that efficiently integrates with kernel
memory management.

ashmem: Don't install fault handler for private mmaps.

Ashmem is used to create named private heaps. If this heap is backed
by a tmpfs file it will allocate two pages for every page touched.
In 2.6.27, the extra page would later be freed, but 2.6.29 does not
scan anonymous pages when running without swap so the memory is not
freed while the file is referenced. This change changes the behavior
of private ashmem mmaps to match /dev/zero instead tmpfs.

ashmem: don't require a page aligned size

This makes ashmem more similar to shmem and mmap, by
not requiring the specified size to be page aligned,
instead rounding it internally as needed.

Lars-Peter Clausen 8fe64955e4 staging:iio:kfifo_buf: Fix potential buffer overflow in iio_read_first_n_kfifo
n is the number of bytes to read, not the number of samples. So if there is
enough data available we will write to the userspace buffer beyond its bounds.
Fix this by copying n bytes maximum. Also round n down to the next multiple of
the sample size, so we will only read complete samples. If the buffer is too
small to hold at least one sample return -EINVAL.

Also update the documentation of read_first_n to reflect the fact that 'n' is
supposed to be in bytes and not in samples.
