This patch adds CTA_MARK_MASK which, together with CTA_MARK, allows
you to selectively send conntrack entries to user-space by
returning those that match mark & mask.
With this, we can save cycles in the building and the parsing of
the entries that may be later on filtered out in user-space by using
the ctmark & mask.

Marcell Zambo and Janos Farago noticed and reported that when
new conntrack entries are added via netlink and the conntrack table
gets full, soft lockup happens. This is because the nf_conntrack_lock
is held while nf_conntrack_alloc is called, which is in turn wants
to lock nf_conntrack_lock while evicting entries from the full table.
The patch fixes the soft lockup with limiting the holding of the
nf_conntrack_lock to the minimum, where it's absolutely required.
It required to extend (and thus change) nf_conntrack_hash_insert
so that it makes sure conntrack and ctnetlink do not add the same entry
twice to the conntrack table.

So here's a boot tested patch on top of Jason's series that does
all the cleanups I talked about and turns jump labels into a
more intuitive to use facility. It should also address the
various misconceptions and confusions that surround jump labels.
Typical usage scenarios:

The 'slow' prefix makes it abundantly clear that this is an
expensive operation.
I've updated all in-kernel code to use this everywhere. Note
that I (intentionally) have not pushed through the rename
blindly through to the lowest levels: the actual jump-label
patching arch facility should be named like that, so we want to
decouple jump labels from the static-key facility a bit.
On non-jump-label enabled architectures static keys default to
likely()/unlikely() branches.

When trying to nf_queue GRO/GSO skbs, nf_queue uses skb_gso_segment
to split the skb.
However, if nf_queue is called via bridge netfilter, the mac header
won't be preserved -- packets will thus contain a bogus mac header.
Fix this by setting skb->data to the mac header when skb->nf_bridge
is set and restoring skb->data afterwards for all segments.

moved the fwmark variable in subcontext that is invalidated before
reaching the ip_vs_ct_in_get call. As vaddr is provided as pointer
in the param structure make sure the fwmark variable is in
same context. As the fwmark templates can not be matched,
more and more template connections are created and the
controlled connections can not go to single real server.

If there was a dumping error in the middle, the set-specific variable was
not zeroed out and thus the 'done' function of the dumping wrongly tried
to release the already released reference of the set. The already released
reference was caught by __ip_set_put and triggered a kernel BUG message.

This patch partially reverts:
3d058d7 netfilter: rework user-space expectation helper support
that was applied during the 3.2 development cycle.
After this patch, the tree remains just like before patch bc01bef,
that initially added the preliminary infrastructure.
I decided to partially revert this patch because the approach
that I proposed to resolve this problem is broken in NAT setups.
Moreover, a new infrastructure will be submitted for the 3.3.x
development cycle that resolve the existing issues while
providing a neat solution.
Since nobody has been seriously using this infrastructure in
user-space, the removal of this feature should affect any know
FOSS project (to my knowledge).

Manually fix up a semantic mis-merge wrt security_netlink_recv():
- the interface was removed in commit fd77846152 ("security: remove
the security_netlink_recv hook as it is equivalent to capable()")
- a new user of it appeared in commit a38f7907b9 ("crypto: Add
userspace configuration API")
causing no automatic merge conflict, but Eric Paris pointed out the
issue.
commit a9b3cd7f32 (rcu: convert uses of rcu_assign_pointer(x, NULL) to
RCU_INIT_POINTER) did a lot of incorrect changes, since it did a
complete conversion of rcu_assign_pointer(x, y) to RCU_INIT_POINTER(x,
y).
We miss needed barriers, even on x86, when y is not NULL.

Fix up trivial conflicts in arch/powerpc/platforms/40x/Kconfig (some new

Once upon a time netlink was not sync and we had to get the effective
capabilities from the skb that was being received. Today we instead get
the capabilities from the current task. This has rendered the entire
purpose of the hook moot as it is now functionally equivalent to the
capable() call.

The get operation was not sending the message that was built to
user-space. This patch also includes the appropriate handling for
the return value of netlink_unicast().
Moreover, fix error codes on error (for example, for non-existing
entry was uncorrect).

The sanity check (timeout < 0) never works; the dividend is unsigned
and so is the division, which should have been a signed division.

We currently have two ways to account traffic in netfilter:

While trying to display real-time accounting statistics, we require
to pool the kernel periodically to obtain this information. This is
OK if the number of flows is relatively low. However, in case that
the number of flows is huge, we can spend a considerable amount of
cycles to iterate over the list of flows that have been obtained.
Moreover, if we want to obtain the sum of the flow accounting results
that match some criteria, we have to iterate over the whole list of
existing flows, look for matchings and update the counters.
This patch adds the extended accounting infrastructure for
nfnetlink which aims to allow displaying real-time traffic accounting
without the need of complicated and resource-consuming implementation
in user-space. Basically, this new infrastructure allows you to create
accounting objects. One accounting object is composed of packet and
byte counters.
In order to manipulate create accounting objects, you require the
new libnetfilter_acct library. It contains several examples of use:

Then, you can use one of this accounting objects in several iptables
rules using the new nfacct match (which comes in a follow-up patch):

The idea is simple: if one packet matches the rule, the nfacct match
updates the counters.

"! --connbytes 23:42" should match if the packet/byte count is not in range.
As there is no explict "invert match" toggle in the match structure,
userspace swaps the from and to arguments
(i.e., as if "--connbytes 42:23" were given).
However, "what <= 23 && what >= 42" will always be false.
Change things so we use "||" in case "from" is larger than "to".
This change may look like it breaks backwards compatibility when "to" is 0.
However, older iptables binaries will refuse "connbytes 42:0",
and current releases treat it to mean "! --connbytes 0:42",
so we should be fine.

Export the NAT definitions to userspace. So far userspace (specifically,
iptables) has been copying the headers files from include/net. Also
rename some structures and definitions in preparation for IPv6 NAT.
Since these have never been officially exported, this doesn't affect
existing userspace code.

This partially reworks bc01befdcf
which added userspace expectation support.
This patch removes the nf_ct_userspace_expect_list since now we
force to use the new iptables CT target feature to add the helper
extension for conntracks that have attached expectations from
userspace.
A new version of the proof-of-concept code to implement userspace
helpers from userspace is available at:

This patch also modifies the CT target to allow to set the
conntrack's userspace helper status flags. This flag is used
to tell the conntrack system to explicitly allocate the helper
extension.
This helper extension is useful to link the userspace expectations
with the master conntrack that is being tracked from one userspace
helper.
This feature fixes a problem in the current approach of the
userspace helper support. Basically, if the master conntrack that
has got a userspace expectation vanishes, the expectations point to
one invalid memory address. Thus, triggering an oops in the
expectation deletion event path.
I decided not to add a new revision of the CT target because
I only needed to add a new flag for it. I'll document in this
issue in the iptables manpage. I have also changed the return
value from EINVAL to EOPNOTSUPP if one flag not supported is
specified. Thus, in the future adding new features that only
require a new flag can be added without a new revision.
There is no official code using this in userspace (apart from
the proof-of-concept) that uses this infrastructure but there
will be some by beginning 2012.

module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int. In
fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy
trick.
It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. For this version
it'll simply give a warning, but it'll break next kernel version.

Use the expect tuple (if possible) instead of the master tuple for
the get operation. If two or more expectations come from the same
master, the returned expectation may not be the one that user-space
is requesting.
This is how it works for the expect deletion operation.
Although I think that nobody has been seriously using this. We
accept both possibilities, using the expect tuple if possible.
I decided to do it like this to avoid breaking backward
compatibility.

We can use atomic64_t infrastructure to avoid taking a spinlock in fast
path, and remove inaccuracies while reading values in
ctnetlink_dump_counters() and connbytes_mt() on 32bit arches.

Modify the algorithm to build the source hashing hash table to add
extra slots for destinations with higher weight. This has the effect
of allowing an IPVS SH user to give more connections to hosts that
have been configured to have a higher weight.
The reason for the Kconfig change is because the size of the hash table
becomes more relevant/important if you decide to use the weights in the
manner this patch lets you. It would be conceivable that someone might
need to increase the size of that table to accommodate their
configuration, so it will be handy to be able to do that through the
regular configuration system instead of editing the source.

While parsing through IPv6 extension headers, fragment headers are
skipped making them invisible to the caller. This reports the
fragment offset of the last header in order to make it possible to
determine whether the packet is fragmented and, if so whether it is
a first or last fragment.

This patch fixes an oops that can be triggered following this recipe:
0) make sure nf_conntrack_netlink and nf_conntrack_ipv4 are loaded.
1) container is started.
2) connect to it via lxc-console.
3) generate some traffic with the container to create some conntrack
entries in its table.
4) stop the container: you hit one oops because the conntrack table
cleanup tries to report the destroy event to user-space but the
per-netns nfnetlink socket has already gone (as the nfnetlink
socket is per-netns but event callback registration is global).
To fix this situation, we make the ctnl_notifier per-netns so the
callback is registered/unregistered if the container is
created/destroyed.
Alex Bligh and Alexey Dobriyan originally proposed one small patch to
check if the nfnetlink socket is gone in nfnetlink_has_listeners,
but this is a very visited path for events, thus, it may reduce
performance and it looks a bit hackish to check for the nfnetlink
socket only to workaround this situation. As a result, I decided
to follow the bigger path choice, which seems to look nicer to me.

On configs where CONFIG_JUMP_LABEL=y, we can replace in fast path a
load/compare/conditional jump by a single jump with no dcache reference.
Jump target is modified as soon as nf_hooks[pf][hook] switches from
empty state to non empty states. jump_label state is kept outside of
nf_hooks array so has no cost on cpu caches.
This patch removes the test on CONFIG_NETFILTER_DEBUG : No need to call
nf_hook_slow() at all if nf_hooks[pf][hook] is empty, this didnt give
useful information, but slowed down things a lot.

(netfilter: nfnetlink_queue: return error number to caller)
erronously assigns the return value of nf_queue() to the "ret" value.
This can cause bogus return values if we encounter QUEUE verdict
when bypassing is enabled, the listener does not exist and the
next hook returns NF_STOLEN.
In this case nf_hook_slow returned -ESRCH instead of 0.

that things won't break when we remove the implicit presence

There are numerous broken references to Documentation files (in other
Documentation files, in comments, etc.). These broken references are
caused by typo's in the references, and by renames or removals of the
Documentation files. Some broken references are simply odd.
Fix these broken references, sometimes by dropping the irrelevant text
they were part of.

Michael M. Builov reported that in the tcp_options and tcp_sack functions
of netfilter TCP conntrack the incorrect handling of invalid TCP option
with too big opsize may lead to read access beyond tcp-packet or buffer
allocated on stack (netfilter bugzilla #738). The fix is to stop parsing
the options at detecting the broken option.

When both the server and the client are NATed, the set-link-info control
packet containing the peer's call-id field is not properly translated.
I have verified that it was working in 2.6.16.13 kernel previously but
due to rewrite, this scenario stopped working (Not knowing exact version
when it stopped working).

A userspace listener may send (bogus) NF_STOLEN verdict, which causes skb leak.
This problem was previously fixed via
64507fdbc2 (netfilter:
nf_queue: fix NF_STOLEN skb leak) but this had to be reverted because
NF_STOLEN can also be returned by a netfilter hook when iterating the
rules in nf_reinject.
Reject userspace NF_STOLEN verdict, as suggested by Michal Miroslaw.
This is complementary to commit fad5444043
(netfilter: avoid double free in nf_reinject).

When assigning a NULL value to an RCU protected pointer, no barrier
is needed. The rcu_assign_pointer, used to handle that but will soon
change to not handle the special case.

If overlapping networks with different interfaces was added to
the set, the type did not handle it properly. Example
ipset create test hash:net,iface
ipset add test 192.168.0.0/16,eth0
ipset add test 192.168.0.0/24,eth1
Now, if a packet was sent from 192.168.0.0/24,eth0, the type returned
a match.
In the patch the algorithm is fixed in order to correctly handle
overlapping networks.
Limitation: the same network cannot be stored with more than 64 different
interfaces in a single set.

The RCU callback xt_rateest_free_rcu() just calls kfree(), so we can
use kfree_rcu() instead of call_rcu(). This also allows us to dispense
with an rcu_barrier() call, speeding up unloading of this module.

Introduces a new nfnetlink type that applies a given
verdict to all queued packets with an id <= the id in the verdict
message.
If a mark is provided it is applied to all matched packets.
This reduces the number of verdicts that have to be sent.
Applications that make use of this feature need to maintain
a timeout to send a batchverdict periodically to avoid starvation.

Packet identifier is currently setup in nfqnl_build_packet_message(),
using one atomic_inc_return().
Problem is that since several cpus might concurrently call
nfqnl_enqueue_packet() for the same queue, we can deliver packets to
consumer in non monotonic way (packet N+1 being delivered after packet
N)
This patch moves the packet id setup from nfqnl_build_packet_message()
to nfqnl_enqueue_packet() to guarantee correct delivery order.
This also removes one atomic operation.

nenetlink_queue operations on SMP are not efficent if several queues are
used, because of nfnl_mutex contention when applications give packet
verdict.
Use new call_rcu field in struct nfnl_callback to advertize a callback
that is called under rcu_read_lock instead of nfnl_mutex.
On my 2x4x2 machine, I was able to reach 2.000.000 pps going through
user land returning NF_ACCEPT verdicts without losses, instead of less
than 500.000 pps before patch.

Goal of this patch is to permit nfnetlink providers not mandate
nfnl_mutex being held while nfnetlink_rcv_msg() calls them.
If struct nfnl_callback contains a non NULL call_rcu(), then
nfnetlink_rcv_msg() will use it instead of call() field, holding
rcu_read_lock instead of nfnl_mutex

In this revision the conversion of secid to SELinux context and adding it
to the audit log is moved from xt_AUDIT.c to audit.c with the aid of a
separate helper function - audit_log_secctx - which does both the conversion
and logging of SELinux context, thus also preventing internal secid number
being leaked to userspace. If conversion is not successful an error is raised.
With the introduction of this helper function the work done in xt_AUDIT.c is
much more simplified. It also opens the possibility of this helper function
being used by other modules (including auditd itself), if desired. With this
addition, typical (raw auditd) output after applying the patch would be:

The hash:net,iface type makes possible to store network address and
interface name pairs in a set. It's mostly suitable for egress
and ingress filtering. Examples:

When ranges are added to hash types, the elements may trigger rehashing
the set. However, the last successfully added element was not kept track
so the adding started again with the first element after the rehashing.

Current listing makes possible to list sets with full content only.
The patch adds support partial listings, i.e. listing just
the existing setnames or listing set headers, without set members.

When an element to a set with timeout added, one can change the timeout
by "readding" the element with the "-exist" flag. That means the timeout
value is reset to the specified one (or to the default from the set
specification if the "timeout n" option is not used). Example
ipset add foo 1.2.3.4 timeout 10
ipset add foo 1.2.3.4 timeout 600 -exist

By default, when broadcast or multicast packet are sent from a local
application, they are sent to the interface then looped by the kernel
to other local applications, going throught netfilter hooks in the
process.
These looped packet have their MAC header removed from the skb by the
kernel looping code. This confuse various netfilter's netlink queue,
netlink log and the legacy ip_queue, because they try to extract a
hardware address from these packets, but extracts a part of the IP
header instead.
This patch prevent NFQUEUE, NFLOG and ip_QUEUE to include a MAC header
if there is none in the packet.

This patch simply avoids calling ip_vs_conn_drop_conntrack()

The message size allocated for rtnl ifinfo dumps was limited to
a single page. This is not enough for additional interface info
available with devices that support SR-IOV and caused a bug in
which VF info would not be displayed if more than approximately
40 VFs were created per interface.
Implement a new function pointer for the rtnl_register service that will
calculate the amount of data required for the ifinfo dump and allocate
enough data to satisfy the request.

This patch fixes a refcount leak of ct objects that may occur if
l4proto->error() assigns one conntrack object to one skbuff. In
that case, we have to skip further processing in nf_conntrack_in().
With this patch, we can also fix wrong return values (-NF_ACCEPT)
for special cases in ICMP[v6] that should not bump the invalid/error
statistic counters.

Fix the IPVS priority in LOCAL_IN hook,
so that SNAT target in POSTROUTING is supported for IPVS
traffic as in 2.6.36 where it worked depending on
module load order.
Before 2.6.37 we used priority 100 in LOCAL_IN to
process remote requests. We used the same priority as
iptables SNAT and if IPVS handlers are installed before
SNAT handlers we supported SNAT in POSTROUTING for the IPVS
traffic. If SNAT is installed before IPVS, the netfilter
handlers are before IPVS and netfilter checks the NAT
table twice for the IPVS requests: once in LOCAL_IN where
IPS_SRC_NAT_DONE is set and second time in POSTROUTING
where the SNAT rules are ignored because IPS_SRC_NAT_DONE
was already set in LOCAL_IN.
But in 2.6.37 we changed the IPVS priority for
LOCAL_IN with the goal to be unique (101) forgetting the
fact that for IPVS traffic we should not walk both
LOCAL_IN and POSTROUTING nat tables.
So, change the priority for processing remote
IPVS requests from 101 to 99, i.e. before NAT_SRC (100)
because we prefer to support SNAT in POSTROUTING
instead of LOCAL_IN. It also moves the priority for
IPVS replies from 99 to 98. Use constants instead of
magic numbers at these places.

When ip_vs was adapted to netns the ftp application was not adapted
in a correct way.
However this is a fix to avoid kernel errors. In the long term another solution
might be chosen. I.e the ports that the ftp appl, uses should be per netns.

Fix up trivial conflicts in arch/x86/Kconfig and net/mac80211/agg-tx.c
as per Davem.
Some Cisco phones do not place the Content-Length field at the end of the
SIP message. This is valid, due to a misunderstanding of the specification
the parser expects the SDP body to start directly after the Content-Length
field. Fix the parser to scan for \r\n\r\n to locate the beginning of the
SDP body.

Without this patch every access to ip_vs in procfs will increase
the netns count i.e. an unbalanced get_net()/put_net().
(ipvsadm commands also use procfs.)
The result is you can't exit a netns if reading ip_vs_* procfs entries.

Remove all remaining references to rt->rt_{src,dst}
by using dest->dst_saddr to cache saddr (used for TUN mode).
For ICMP in FORWARD hook just restrict the rt_mode for NAT
to disable LOCALNODE. All other modes do not allow
IP_VS_RT_MODE_RDR, so we should be safe with the ICMP
forwarding. Using cp->daddr as replacement for rt_dst
is safe for all modes except BYPASS, even when cp->dest is
NULL because it is cp->daddr that is used to assign cp->dest
for sync-ed connections.

sequences that was before namspace patch.
Netns also requires action when net devices unregister
which has never been implemented. I.e this patch also
covers when a device moves into a network namespace,
and has to be released.
IMPLEMENTATION
The number of calls to register_pernet_device have been
reduced to one for the ip_vs.ko
Schedulers still have their own calls.
This patch adds a function __ip_vs_service_cleanup()
and an enable flag for the netfilter hooks.
The nf hooks will be enabled when the first service is loaded
and never disabled again, except when a namespace exit starts.

If the sync daemons run in a name space while it crashes
or get killed, there is no way to stop them except for a reboot.
When all patches are there, ip_vs_core will handle register_pernet_(),
i.e. ip_vs_sync_init() and ip_vs_sync_cleanup() will be removed.
Kernel threads should not increment the use count of a socket.
By calling sk_change_net() after creating a socket this is avoided.
sock_release cant be used intead sk_release_kernel() should be used.

The SET target with --del-set did not work due to using wrongly
the internal dimension of --add-set instead of --del-set.
Also, the checkentries did not release the set references when
returned an error. Bugs reported by Lennert Buytenhek.

Enforce that the second "src/dst" parameter of the set match and SET target
must be "src", because we have access to the source MAC only in the packet.
The previous behaviour, that the type required the second parameter
but actually ignored the value was counter-intuitive and confusing.

We currently use a percpu spinlock to 'protect' rule bytes/packets
counters, after various attempts to use RCU instead.
Lately we added a seqlock so that get_counters() can run without
blocking BH or 'writers'. But we really only need the seqcount in it.
Spinlock itself is only locked by the current/owner cpu, so we can
remove it completely.
This cleanups api, using correct 'writer' vs 'reader' semantic.
At replace time, the get_counters() call makes sure all cpus are done
using the old table.

ipv6 fib lookup can set RT6_LOOKUP_F_IFACE flag to restrict search
to an interface, but this flag cannot be set via struct flowi.
Also, it cannot be set via ip6_route_output: this function uses the
passed sock struct to determine if this flag is required
(by testing for nonzero sk_bound_dev_if).
Work around this by passing in an artificial struct sk in case
'strict' argument is true.
This is required to replace the rt6_lookup call in xt_addrtype.c with
nf_afinfo->route().

ipvsadm -ln --daemon will trigger a Null pointer exception because
ip_vs_genl_dump_daemons() uses skb_net() instead of skb_sknet().
To prevent others from NULL ptr a check is made in ip_vs.h skb_net().

Static analyzer of clang found a dead store which appears to be a bug in
reading count of items in SEQOF field, only the lower byte of word is
stored. This may lead to corrupted read and communication shutdown.
The bug has been in the module since it's first inclusion into linux
kernel.
[Patrick: the bug is real, but without practical consequence since the
largest amount of sequence-of members we parse is 30.]

The timeout variant of the list:set type must reference the member sets.
However, its garbage collector runs at timer interrupt so the mutex
protection of the references is a no go. Therefore the reference protection
is converted to rwlock.

Even though ebtables uses xtables it still requires targets to
return EBT_CONTINUE instead of XT_CONTINUE. This prevented
xt_AUDIT to work as ebt module.
Upon Jan's suggestion, use a separate struct xt_target for
NFPROTO_BRIDGE having its own target callback returning
EBT_CONTINUE instead of cloning the module.

We use the reply tuples when limiting the connections by the destination
addresses, however, in SNAT scenario, the final reply tuples won't be
ready until SNAT is done in POSTROUING or INPUT chain, and the following
nf_conntrack_find_get() in count_tem() will get nothing, so connlimit
can't work as expected.
In this patch, the original tuples are always used, and an additional
member addr is appended to save the address in either end.

Much of ip_vs_leave() is unnecessary if CONFIG_SYSCTL is undefined.
I tried an approach of breaking the now #ifdef'ed portions out
into a separate function. However this appeared to grow the
compiled code on x86_64 by about 200 bytes in the case where
CONFIG_SYSCTL is defined. So I have gone with the simpler though
less elegant #ifdef'ed solution for now.

Move the estimator reading from estimation_timer to user
context. ip_vs_read_estimator() will be used to decode the rate
values. As the decoded rates are not set by estimation timer
there is no need to reset them in ip_vs_zero_stats.
There is no need ip_vs_new_estimator() to encode stats
to rates, if the destination is in trash both the stats and the
rates are inactive.

Currently, the new percpu counters are not zeroed and
the zero commands do not work as expected, we still show the old
sum of percpu values. OTOH, we can not reset the percpu counters
from user context without causing the incrementing to use old
and bogus values.
So, as Eric Dumazet suggested fix that by moving all overhead
to stats reading in user context. Do not introduce overhead in
timer context (estimator) and incrementing (packet handling in
softirqs).
The new ustats0 field holds the zero point for all
counter values, the rates always use 0 as base value as before.
When showing the values to user space just give the difference
between counters and the base values. The only drawback is that
percpu stats are not zeroed, they are accessible only from /proc
and are new interface, so it should not be a compatibility problem
as long as the sum stats are correct after zeroing.

The global tot_stats contains cpustats field just like the
stats for dest and svc, so better use it to simplify the usage
in estimation_timer. As tot_stats is registered as estimator
we can remove the special ip_vs_read_cpu_stats call for
tot_stats. Fix ip_vs_read_cpu_stats to be called under
stats lock because it is still used as synchronization between
estimation timer and user context (the stats readers).
Also, make sure ip_vs_stats_percpu_show reads properly
the u64 stats from user context.

I intend to turn struct flowi into a union of AF specific flowi
structs. There will be a common structure that each variant includes
first, much like struct sock_common.

Since xt_find_match() returns ERR_PTR(xx) on error not NULL,
the macro try_then_request_module won't work correctly here.
The macro expects its first argument will be zero if condition
fails. But ERR_PTR(-ENOENT) is not zero.
The correct solution is to propagate the error value
back.

Fix dst_lock usage in __ip_vs_update_dest. We need
_bh locking because destination is updated in user context.
Can cause lockups on frequent destination updates.
Problem reported by Simon Kirby. Bug was introduced
in 2.6.37 from the "ipvs: changes for local real server"

This patch fixes the out of sync scenarios while in SYN_RECV state.
Quoting Jozsef, what it happens if we are out of sync if the
following:
> > b. conntrack entry is outdated, new SYN received
> > - (b1) we ignore it but save the initialization data from it
> > - (b2) when the reply SYN/ACK receives and it matches the saved data,
> > we pick up the new connection
This is what it should happen if we are in SYN_RECV state. Initially,
the SYN packet hits b1, thus we save data from it. But the SYN/ACK
packet is considered a retransmission given that we're in SYN_RECV
state. Therefore, we never hit b2 and we don't get in sync. To fix
this, we ignore SYN/ACK if we are in SYN_RECV. If the previous packet
was a SYN, then we enter the ignore case that get us in sync.
This patch helps a lot to conntrackd in stress scenarios (assumming a
client that generates lots of small TCP connections). During the failover,
consider that the new primary has injected one outdated flow in SYN_RECV
state (this is likely to happen if the conntrack event rate is high
because the backup will be a bit delayed from the primary). With the
current code, if the client starts a new fresh connection that matches
the tuple, the SYN packet will be ignored without updating the state
tracking, and the SYN+ACK in reply will blocked as it will not pass
checkings III or IV (since all state tracking in the original direction
is not initialized because of the SYN packet was ignored and the ignore
case that get us in sync is not applied).
I posted a couple of patches before this one. Changli Gao spotted
a simpler way to fix this problem. This patch implements his idea.

lc and wlc use the same formula, but lblc and lblcr use another one. There
is no reason for using two different formulas for the lc variants.
The formula used by lc is used by all the lc variants in this patch.

Assigning a socket in timewait state to skb->sk can trigger
kernel oops, e.g. in nfnetlink_log, which does:
if (skb->sk) {
read_lock_bh(&skb->sk->sk_callback_lock);
if (skb->sk->sk_socket && skb->sk->sk_socket->file) ...
in the timewait case, accessing sk->sk_callback_lock and sk->sk_socket
is invalid.
Either all of these spots will need to add a test for sk->sk_state != TCP_TIME_WAIT,
or xt_TPROXY must not assign a timewait socket to skb->sk.
This does the latter.
If a TW socket is found, assign the tproxy nfmark, but skip the skb->sk assignment,
thus mimicking behaviour of a '-m socket .. -j MARK/ACCEPT' re-routing rule.
The 'SYN to TW socket' case is left unchanged -- we try to redirect to the
listener socket.

When IP_VS schedulers do not find a destination, they output a terse
"WLC: no destination available" message through kernel syslog, which I
can not only make sense of because syslog puts them in a logfile
together with keepalived checker results.
This patch makes the output a bit more informative, by telling you which
virtual service failed to find a destination.
Example output:

I have tested the code for IPv4 and FWM services, as you can see from
the example; I do not have an IPv6 setup to test the third code path
with.
To avoid code duplication, I put a new function ip_vs_scheduler_err()
into ip_vs_sched.c, and use that from the schedulers instead of calling
IP_VS_ERR_RL directly.

Remove code that should not be called anymore.
Now when ip_vs_out handles replies for local clients at
LOCAL_IN hook we do not need to call conn_out_get and
handle_response_icmp from ip_vs_in_icmp* because such
lookups were already performed for the ICMP packet and no
connection was found.

As noticed by Eric, nf_iterate doesn't use RCU correctly by
accessing the prev pointer of a RCU protected list element when
a verdict of NF_REPEAT is issued.
Fix by jumping backwards to the hook invocation directly instead
of loading the previous list element before continuing the list
iteration.
