free_irq() calls synchronize_irq() for you, so there is no need for
drivers to manually do the same thing (again). Thus, calls where
sync-irq immediately precedes free-irq can be simplified.
However, during this audit several bugs were noticed, where free-irq is
preceded by a "irq >= 0" check... but the sync-irq call is not covered
by the same check.
So, where sync-irq could not be eliminated completely, the missing check
was added.

since patch_alc*() have different model tables. So, now it's handled in
the original patch_alc882() but fly to patch_alc883() in model=auto
appropriately.

Several 92hd7xxx and STAC9228 laptops have multiple headphone jacks,
the second headphone jack should be used for the 5.1 surround sound.
Add support for 'Headphone as Line Out' switch, which allows it be used
in 5.1 surround sound.

Added the support of AD1989A and AD1989B codecs.
These codecs can have multiple SPDIF devices, but currently we handle
only one SPDIF. If any real devices with two SPDIF interfaces (likely
one for SPDIF and one for HDMI), we'll fix this rightly.
Otherwise, these codecs are pretty similar with AD1988.

This adds support for Quanta IL1 mini-notebook to alsa, defining a new model
for it. It comes with an ALC267 codec chip. Some notes about this model:
* In headphone automute, I use AC_VERB_SET_PIN_WIDGET_CONTROL instead of common
amp mute, to avoid conflict with mixer switch (mixer and automute use the
same nid).
* The only connected capture sources in the hardware are the internal mic and
external mic jack. So instead of using an input source selector like on other
ALC268 models, the mic automute automatically switch between captures.

The legacy PC speaker signal was not routed to outputs. The codec is not
prevented from powering down in this patch, although I suppose one could
argue that perhaps it should be. Let me know if anyone feels strongly one
way or the other.

Actually clfe and surround DACs are inverted in alc883_dac_nids array
(see ALC883 datasheet). I discovered this while testing multi-channel
setup (using 3stack-6ch-dig model) on MSI 945GCM5 V2 motherboard that
has an ALC883 codec. Simply Rear Left/Right and Center/LFE were swapped
in 6 channel mode (also in 4 channel mode you didn't get rear left/right
output). Other models also were affected by this bug, as can be seen by
the mixer layouts that "workaround" this (the real bug was not noticed,
and some other models simply played with mixer and initial verbs). Thus
along with fixing the order of dac nids, also change the models that
relied on previous dac ordering properly.

The docking station headphone output had no audio and jack sense
was not considered.
Jack information from the laptop itself and the dock are combined, as

The hda-intel driver has a problem at power-off on ASUS P5AD2.
It's caused when the position-buffer is enabled -- most likely a
hardware-specific problem.
This patch adds a quirk to avoid the unnecessary enablement of
position-buffer.

Currently ALC662 doesn't suport amp mute for AmpOut in nids 0x02, 0x03,
0x04 (see block diagram in ALC662 datasheet page 3, does M correspond to
mute?). The result is that currently mute for "Front Playback Switch",
"Surround Playback Switch", "Center Playback Switch" and "LFE Playback
Switch" mixer items doesn't work (tested on Asus P5GC-MX motherboard
with 3stack-6ch model).
The solution I found for this is to mute the proper inputs in 0x0c,
0x0d, 0x0e audio mixers.

Currently, the headphone controls are created as Master wrongly in
some cases, and this prevents the virtual master controls.
The patch fixes the problem by simply using "Headphone" always for
headphone controls.

Fixed issue on some laptops that if the Master mixer and DAC mixers are
turned all the way up that will cause distortion. This is fixed by limiting
the max volume with the volume knob nid.

Currently the model laptop-hpsense use the 0x12 as ExtMic,
and use 0x14 as Internal IntMic.
But the hp530 only have one ExtMic, the Pin widget is 0x14.
In this patch, I changed the mixer item for them.
I still reserved the IntMic item, it will be helpful if
other machine may use this model.

NEC S970 has no sound in the internal speakers when autodetection is
used.
With targa-dig model, there is sound in the speakers and it gets
correctly muted when pluging headphones.

Use a private array for TLV entries of virtual master controls instead

due to a wrong use of snd_hda_codec_amp_stereo(). The code in the init

Added a new mixer switch to enable/disable the sharing of the default
PCM stream with analog and SPDIF outputs. When "IEC958 Default PCM"
switch is on, the PCM stream is routed both to analog and SPDIF outputs.
This is the behavior in the earlier version.
Turning this switch off has a merit for some codecs, though. Some codec
chips don't support 24bit formats for SPDIF but only for analog outputs.
In this case, you can use 24bit format by disabling this switch.

In some cases, the BIOS sets up only the HP pins with different assoc
and sequence numbers, e.g. on FSC Esprimo with ALC262.
This patch adds a fix-up for such a case. When multiple HPs are defined
and no line-outs is found, the configurator tries to re-assign some pins
from HP list to line-out, judging from the sequence number.

In the current scheme, PCM device numbers are assigned incrementally
in the order of codecs. This causes problems when the codec number
is irregular, e.g. codec #0 for HDMI and codec #1 for analog. Then
the HDMI becomes the first PCM, which is picked up as the default
output device. Unfortuantely this doesn't work well with normal
setups.
This patch introduced the fixed device numbers for the PCM types,
namely, analog, SPDIF, HDMI and modem. The PCM devices are assigned
according to the corresponding PCM type. After this patch, HDMI will
be always assigned to PCM #3, SPDIF to PCM #1, and the first analog
to PCM #0, etc.

The current code doesn't allow multiple SPDIF devices, and causes
errors when multiple SPDIF devices are found (e.g. SPDIF out and HDMI).
This patch allows multiple SPDIF devices by incrementing the index
automatically.

Some models like eeepc ep20 have invalid mixer names that aren't
handled properly by virtual master controls. Rename them to the

HP dv8000 laptop has a problem with Master volume. It's due to the
connection of the widget 0x13. When it's connected from the analog
amp mixer (0x19), it works as expected mysteriously (ALSA bug#3775):

The PCM mixer elements in HP T5735 model of ALC262 codec conflict
with Speaker and Headphone volumes. They should be removed.
Ditto for LineOut that is identical with Speaker.
Also, fixed/cleaned up the auto-mute callback to use the amp cache
correctly.

The SPDIF output on AD1986A laptop-eapd model is disabled although
some Samsung laptops have SPDIF output. Enable it after checking the
pin default config.

This patch checks to see the Line In/Mic port have the ability
to do output before creating the the control switches.
The 92hd71bxx series of codecs has this issue with the port 0xe,
which only allows input.

Don't query a widget parameter for an invalid NID in get_wcaps() but
rather returns zero (i.e. no attribute).
The read to an non-existing widget may result in a fatal codec
communication error.

In azx_[rirb_]get_response(), the timeout is checked at the end of the loop.
It's better to be checked just after the check of the RIRB index to avoid
a bogus error with a too long msleep().

The following pieces of information are added to the output:
- Balanced, L/R swap, trigger, impedance sense pin capabilities
- Vref pin capabilities
- Current Vref pin widget control setting
- Default configuration association, sequence, and misc bit test
- EAPD/BTL bits conveying balanced mode, EAPD, and L/R swap
- Power state modified to show state name as well as setting vs actual value
- GPIO parameter output on Audio Function Group, including enumeration of IO
pins which are indicated present (Any I and O pins are not output at this
time)
- Stripe and L/R swap widget capabilities
- All digital converter bits: enable, validity, validity config, preemphasis,
copyright, non-audio, professional, generation level, and content category
- Converter stream and channel values for in/out widgets
- SDI select value for in widgets
- Unsolicited response widget capability tag and enabled bit
- Delay widget capability value
- Processing widget capability benign bit and number of coefficients

For codec conexant 5045, I found that the name of 'Capture Source Items'
is different from the name of mixer.
The mixer is:
HDA_CODEC_VOLUME('Ext Mic Playback Volume', 0x17, 0x2, HDA_INPUT),
HDA_CODEC_MUTE('Ext Mic Playback Switch', 0x17, 0x2, HDA_INPUT),
But the capture source item is :

Some machines with STAC codecs seem to have problems (e.g. no audible
playback) when the delay in codec-read routine is too short.
I still don't figure out which command sequence causes this problem
(due to lack of test hardware), but it's known that increasing the
delay fixes. So, added a stupid workaround here temporarily...

It turned out that the PCBEEP element (0x1d) is disabled on some hardwares
although it's defined in the datasheet. Because of the error at info of
this element, the mixer gets totally unusable.
Since the PCBEEP isn't that important feature, it's safer to disable this.

This patch removes hardcoded values for the number of streams supported
by the southbridge in most chipsets, and reads these values from the
chipset directly. Most systems are hardwired for 4 streams in each
direction, but newer chipsets change that capability.

Fixes multiple device support by incrementing the static device counter

The ALC auto-probe creates mic boost controls automatically for the
probed pins, but it assumes that they are analog mics. The digital
mics have no boost controls and must be skipped.

Added support for advanced power management support for output ports on
92HD7xxx family of codecs. Inactive output ports are powered down when
the pin sense doesn't detect a connection, and powered back up when a
connection is sensed.

Added helper functions to implement virtual master volume controls.
The virtual master control is a control element that has multiple
slave controls. The value of master element is equally added to
slave elements.
The functions are written for general purpose, but it's put in the
HD-audio directory as now, since HD-audio driver is the only user.
It should be moved to the common place once after other drivers use
vmaster.

Moved 2 systems PCI_QUIRK values to STAC_DELL_BIOS. Also the second

This header file exists only for some hacks to adapt alsa-driver
tree. It's useless for building in the kernel. Let's move a few
lines in it to sound/core.h and remove it.
With this patch, sound/driver.h isn't removed but has just a single
compile warning to include it. This should be really killed in
future.

This implements a switch control for the EAPD signal output by the ALC26x
chips. Since some laptops may utilise this to activate useful things it
is handy to have a control for this in the ALC26x test models. The patch
includes the control in the ALC260 test model.

It turned out that there can be multiple HD-audio devices on a single
machine (e.g. on-board audio and HDMI on graphic cards), so we need to
support multiple devices with snd-hda-intel driver.

This patch adds IEC958 digital out support for the AD1984 sound card.
This card can be found in Lenovo Thinkapds T61/X61. The digital out is
not located on the Thinkpad, but optional docking station (it's coxial
digital out). I've add this support as it is done the exact same way
for the AD1983 & AD1884.
I have tested this patch with my Lenovo Thinkpad T61 hooked up to a
docking station (that has the digital coxial) and then run to my home
theater reciever. Works like a charm :-)

Some laptops incorrectly assume the front input jack as a line in
instead of a microphone in. Which in turn disables the voltage
reference, in which non-amplified input is not possible. This patch
enables VREF80 for the input jack.

According to the [0003659], the node 0x23,0x24 is a selector.
I checked the alc268 spec on the REALTEK website and it showed that they
were selectors indeed.
However, current code implement the alc268 input_mux in a mixer way.

The commit that added support for ASUS P701 eeepc also changed the
mixers of other ALC662 models, duplicating entries for the Capture
items, making them to not work anymore. This fixes it by removing
duplicated entries using where possible the common alc662_capture_mixer.
Also alc662_capture_mixer should use alc662* functions and not alc882
(I checked /proc/asound/card0/codec* on an eepc model and it's ok).

and AC_PINCAP_LR_SWAP. The missing fields were listed in the ALC883 datasheet
rev 1.3.

The digital mux on STAC codecs doesn't always exist although the
driver builds dmux enum mixer elements unconditionally.
Now the driver creates 'digital input source' mixer elements only
when dmux is available.
Also, the patch adds the missing dmux definition for STAC925x.

Volume knob controls with STAC codecs seem to cause problems with some
devices. Volumes change very slowly or silent suddenly. It's likely

Dell laptops have multiple HP jacks that can be used for multi-channel
outputs. The current auto pincfg handles the speaker as the primary
output and thus cannot handle the multi-channel configuration for such
cases. This patch adds a workaround to fix this issue by swapping the
HP and speaker during multi-channel setup routines.

The Audio interface on HD2400/HD2600 cards isn't currently detected by
snd-hda-intel. I added missing pci device ids for RV610 and RV630, but
I only had a HD2400 pro card to test, where now the audio interface is
detected (and no need to change patch_atihdmi.c, as the codec vendor id
remains 0x1002aa01 for which we already have an entry there). I also
couldn't test if sound pass-trough is ok (and I don't know how to), but
at least now the device is detected.

"Alsa stopped working for me. I still can access /dev/dsp, change the
volume and so on, but the speakers are quiet."

Volume knob controls with STAC codecs seem to cause problems with some
devices. Volumes change very slowly or silent suddenly. It's likely
due to conflict between the software and the hardware volume knob
setup.
Since we'll have a virtual master control in future, it's safer to
remove this control completely right now.

The recent addition of checking PINCAP for EAPD seems to break some
systems due to unexpected response from the codec chip. We shouldn't
issue GET_PINCAP verb to non-PIN widgets. Now checks the widget type
before checking EAPD bit.

AD1986A has a hardware problem that it cannot share a stream with
multiple pins properly. The problem occurs e.g. when a volume is changed
during playback.
So far, hda-intel driver unconditionally assigns the stream to multiple
output pins in copy-front mode, and this should be avoided for AD1986A
codec.

dac_nids arrays in each codec support code may have up to 5 items
when assigned from the auto-configurator. Some codec codes have
less numbers than the possible max. This patch defines the constant
and fixes the array definitions.

CONFIG_SND_HDA_GENERIC by defining a dummy function to return error.

The addition of volume knob as Master volume resulted in conflict with
the existing one by stac92xx_auto_create_hp_ctls().
This patch fixes the conflict, and still keeps the Master control for
codecs without volume knob as much as possible.

'I found that STAC_VOLKNOB hardwired the KNOB nid to 0x24.
It is okay for stac9205 and stac927x.
But the VolumeKnob nid of stac9220-9221 is 0x16.'

Fix the output of Gateway laptops with STAC9200 codec chip.
They require the EAPD control for some pins. These pins shouldn't be
powered down.
To enable EAPD control, a new model 'gateway' was added to STAC9200.
The known PCI SSIDs are included in the quirk list.
The fix was originally suggested by Brian Hinz, in ALSA bug#2948.

Fix schedule_timeout() use in alsa-kernel. Mostly just
schedule_timeout(1) --> schedule_timeout_uninterruptible(1)
The wavefront_synth one fixes the surrounding loop as well. In ymfpci_main,
delete a superfluous set_current_state() and in soc/soc-dapm.c replace an
_interruptible with _uninterruptible in some debug code; it's not waiting
for signals.

When modem is disabled in the BIOS, detection of the number of codecs
always fails after booting if STATESTS is not cleared first.
This patch fixes this problem and also adds an error check in a place
where a read error would lead to a very large number of pointless loops.
