504d36e91a Input: s3c24xx_ts - depend on SAMSUNG_DEV_TS and update menu entry
Make the driver depend on either ARCH_S3C2410 (as legacy) or the new
device selection of SAMSUNG_DEV_TS.

Change the menuconfig name to reflect this driver is now handling more
devices that just the s3c2410.

3843384a05 Input: ad7877 - keep dma rx buffers in seperate cache lines
With dma based spi transmission, data corruption is observed
occasionally. With dma buffers located right next to msg and
xfer fields, cache lines correctly flushed in preparation for
dma usage may be polluted again when writing to fields in the
same cache line.

Make sure cache fields used with dma do not share cache lines
with fields changed during dma handling. As both fields are part
of a struct that is allocated via kzalloc, thus cache aligned,
moving the fields to the 1st position and insert padding for
alignment does the job.

5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

  http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

4eb6f91b95 Input: ad7877 - increase pen up imeout
The time interval between consecutive interrupts depends on a number of
tunables: first_conversion_delay, acquisition_time, averaging and foremost
the pen_down_acc_interval.

Since the mod_timer() action for the PEN UP event happens in the
spi_async() callback function, latencies incurred by the spi bus drivers
also need to be taken into account.

So all in all, give the PEN UP event a bit more wiggle room and increase
timeout to 100ms.

06a09124b5 Input: ads7846 - add support for AD7843 parts
The AD7873 is almost identical to the ADS7846; the only difference is
related to the Power Management bits PD0 and PD1. This results in a
slightly different PENIRQ enable behavior. For the AD7873, VREF should
be turned off during differential measurements.

So, add the AD7873/43 to the list of driver supported devices, and prevent
VREF usage during differential/ratiometric conversion modes.

f5f96b93e7 Input: add S3C24XX touchscreen driver
S3C24XX touchscreen driver, originally written by Arnaud Patard and
other contributors. The driver has had substantial testing as well as
a number of tidying up passes done by Ben Dooks, as noted:

- added kernel-doc comments to most of the routines
- removed old code from pre adc framework days
- updated device probe code to use platform id list matching
- cleaned up debug, since printk() now has timestamp feature
- ensure code uses dev_() reporting macros where necessary
- remove ABS_PRESSURE reporting, tslib can be fixed
- ensure timer is removed on driver exit
- move to using dev_pmops for power management

edge because the code accounts touch bounce anyway by kicking in a timer
and disabling the irq after the first request and reenabling the irq after
a timeout when there is no longer pen down detected.

7e3f73754e Input: add support for touchscreen on W90P910 ARM platform
The touchscreen works in two modes, wait trigger mode and auto-semi
mode. The device starts in wait trigger mode and waits until pressure
is detected, then device sets WT_INT bit and raises an interrupt.
The driver should put the device into auto-semi mode and prepare for
reading first X and then Y coordinates. When coordinate data is ready
the driver sets ADC_INT bit and raises interrupt again.

The driver has been tested with Atmel AVR32 AT32AP7000 and Wolfson

5bf3df3f00 [ARM] pxa: separate definitions from pxa-regs.h and remove it finally

and then we can remove pxa-regs.h completely. Instead of #include this

2. define the registers in the driver, make cleanly defined API to expose

A pointer to corgits_probe is passed to the core via
platform_driver_register and so the function must not disappear when the

unbinding and binding a device to the driver via sysfs will result in an

1f017a9964 [ARM] pxa: move AC97 register definitions into dedicated regs-ac97.h
The optimal change would be to move the AC97 register definitions into
the AC97 driver, unfortunately, the registers are shared between several
files. Move them into a dedicated regs-ac97.h first.

ca109491f6 hrtimer: removing all ur callback modes
Impact: cleanup, move all hrtimer processing into hardirq context

This is an attempt at removing some of the hrtimer complexity by
reducing the number of callback modes to 1.

This means that all hrtimer callback functions will be ran from HARD-irq
context.

I went through all the 30 odd hrtimer callback functions in the kernel
and saw only one that I'm not quite sure of, which is the one in
net/can/bcm.c - hence I'm CC-ing the folks responsible for that code.

Furthermore, the hrtimer core now calls callbacks directly with IRQs
disabled in case you try to enqueue an expired timer. If this timer is a
periodic timer (which should use hrtimer_forward() to advance its time)
then it might be possible to end up in an inf. recursive loop due to the
fact that hrtimer_forward() doesn't round up to the next timer
granularity, and therefore keeps on calling the callback - obviously
this needs a fix.

Aside from that, this seems to compile and actually boot on my dual core
test box - although I'm sure there are some bugs in, me not hitting any
makes me certain :-)

2ec6f246c3 Input: usbtouchscreen - fix TSC-10 DM USB controllers without EEPROM
The usbtouchscreen module implements a driver for the TSC-10 DM USB
touchscreen controllers, but assumes a 2-byte response for the
CMD_RESET and CMD_RATE commands, when they can be only a single byte
when no EEPROM is connected.

The driver worked with an earlier controller revision, but new
revisions of the controller fail.

It seems the problem is that the early controller had the
SEL4/EEPROM-CS pin high, but the new controller has it down, making
the response different.

Without the fix, the controller would answer the single byte 0x06
(ACK), making the init fail with -ENODEV because buf[1] is 0xFF (as
initialized before).

As the single byte is the only thing we need to check it was ok, there
is no need to verify the second byte.

The [0x15 0x01] case is the NAK [0x15] response for when there is no
data in the EEPROM [bit-0 of second byte set], so I let that be, as I
don't have any controller with an EEPROM.

With this patch, both the earlier and latest controller work the same.

Note: This was previously submited as BUG #11961 [1] on the bugzilla
tracker, but rebased to version 2.6.27.4 and with unnecessary comments
and printk's removed.

As well as clarifying the fact that the driver can cope if a second

Fix a buffer overflow in mutli-packet handling code. The overflow can
only happen with eGalax devices and is even there very unlikely (only
non-report packet are affected any only when truncated after the first
byte).

Also changes the mutli-packet handling code not to drop unknown packets,
but rather just drop one byte. This allows synchronizing on report packets
in the data stream. It's required for some egalax devices to work at all.

Also remove the pointless 'flags' member of the device struct and set the
version number to 0.6, plus some minor cleanups.

e42837bcd3 freezer: introduce freezer-friendly waiting macros
Introduce freezer-friendly wrappers around wait_event_interruptible() and
wait_event_interruptible_timeout(), originally defined in <linux/wait.h>, to
be used in freezable kernel threads. Make some of the freezable kernel
threads use them.

This is necessary for the freezer to stop sending signals to kernel threads,
which is implemented in the next patch.

e4f4886199 Input: ads7846 - introduce sample settling delay
The ads7846 driver has support for filtering, but when the chip gets
deselected between samples this causes noise. This patch adds support
for an optional settling delay time, so that two consecutive samples
will be taken with the specified delay time apart. This ensures that
the chip won't be deselected, so the noise won't appear.

Filtering can still be done, but will have less work to do since each
time a new sample is taken the same delay applies.

8314418629 Freezer: make kernel threads nonfreezable by default
Currently, the freezer treats all tasks as freezable, except for the kernel
threads that explicitly set the PF_NOFREEZE flag for themselves. This
approach is problematic, since it requires every kernel thread to either
set PF_NOFREEZE explicitly, or call try_to_freeze(), even if it doesn't
care for the freezing of tasks at all.

It seems better to only require the kernel threads that want to or need to
be frozen to use some freezer-related code and to remove any
freezer-related code from the other (nonfreezable) kernel threads, which is
done in this patch.

The patch causes all kernel threads to be nonfreezable by default (ie. to
have PF_NOFREEZE set by default) and introduces the set_freezable()
function that should be called by the freezable kernel threads in order to
unset PF_NOFREEZE. It also makes all of the currently freezable kernel
threads call set_freezable(), so it shouldn't cause any (intentional)
change of behaviour to appear. Additionally, it updates documentation to
describe the freezing of tasks more accurately.

In commit [1] the SPI mode is set to 1, but it should be 0. As stated
in the commit, ads784x samples the data on the rising edge. SPI mode 1
samples on the falling edge [2] though.

The root cause of this is a bug in the omap_uwire code, which treats
CPHA=1 incorrectly; so these two bugs cancel each other out on one
of the main regression test platforms for this driver.

e1036502e5 [PATCH] remove config ordering/dependency between ucb1400-ts and sound subsystem
Commit 2d4ba4a3b9 introduced a dependency
that was never meant to exist when the ac97_bus.c module was created.
Move ac97_bus.c up the directory hierarchy to make sure it is built when
selected even if sound is configured out so things work as originally
intended.

2d4ba4a3b9 [PATCH] ucb1400_ts depends SND_AC97_BUS
This driver is an AC97 codec according to its help text. However, if SOUND is
disabled, the "select SND_AC97_BUS" still inserts that into the .config file:

#
# Sound
#
# CONFIG_SOUND is not set
CONFIG_SND_AC97_BUS=m

Even if the config software followed dependency chains on selects, we should
try to limit usage of "select" to library-type code that is needed (e.g., CRC
functions) instead of bus-type support.

7d12e780e0 IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlers
Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead
of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the
Linux kernel.

The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack
space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter
from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path
(ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()).

Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do
something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is
maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception
handling.

Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down
through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character
device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its
interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character
device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input
layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing.

I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the
main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers.
I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile
with minimal configurations.

This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy.
Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one:

	struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs);

And put the old one back at the end:

	set_irq_regs(old_regs);

Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ().

In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary:

	-	update_process_times(user_mode(regs));
	-	profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs);
	+	update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs()));
	+	profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING);

I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself,
except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode().

Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers:

(*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in
     the input_dev struct.

(*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does
something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs
     pointer or not.

(*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type
     irq_handler_t.

In order to prevent gcc from making incorrect optimizations, all asm()

c9e617a563 Input: ads7846 - handle IRQs that were latched during disabled IRQs
The pen down IRQ will toggle during each X,Y,Z measurement cycle.
Even though the IRQ is disabled it will be latched and delivered
when after enable_irq. Thus in the IRQ handler we must avoid
starting a new measurement cycle when such an "unwanted" IRQ happens.
Add a get_pendown_state platform function, which will probably
determine this by reading the current GPIO level of the pen IRQ pin.

Move the IRQ reenabling from the SPI RX function to the timer. After
the last power down message the pen IRQ pin is still active for a
while and get_pendown_state would report incorrectly a pen down state.

When suspending we should check the ts->pending flag instead of
ts->pendown, since the timer can be pending regardless of ts->pendown.
Also if ts->pending is set we can be sure that the timer is running,
so no need to rearm it. Similarly if ts->pending is not set we can
be sure that the IRQ is enabled (and the timer is not).

0025835cf2 [PATCH] sh: consolidate hp620/hp680/hp690 targets into hp6xx
Most of the reasons for keeping these separate before was due to hp690
discontig, and since we have a workaround for that now (abusing some shadow
space so everything is magically contiguous), there's no reason to keep the
targets separate.

8275c642cc [PATCH] spi: use linked lists rather than an array
This makes the SPI core and its users access transfers in the SPI message
structure as linked list not as an array, as discussed on LKML.

From: David Brownell <dbrownell@users.sourceforge.net>

Updates including doc, bugfixes to the list code, add
spi_message_add_tail(). Plus, initialize things _before_ grabbing the
locks in some cases (in case it grows more expensive). This also merges
some bitbang updates of mine that didn't yet make it into the mm tree.

ffa458c1bd [PATCH] spi: ads7846 driver
This is a driver for the ADS7846 touchscreen sensor, derived from
the corgi_ts and omap_ts drivers. Key differences from those two:

  - Uses the new SPI framework (minimalist version)
  - <linux/spi/ads7846.h> abstracts board-specific touchscreen info
  - Sysfs attributes for the temperature and voltage sensors
  - Uses fewer ARM-specific IRQ primitives

The temperature and voltage sensors show up in sysfs like this:

  $ pwd
  /sys/devices/platform/omap-uwire/spi2.0
  $ ls
  bus@ input:event0@ power/ temp1 vbatt
  driver@ modalias temp0 vaux
  $ cat modalias
  ads7846
  $ cat temp0
  991
  $ cat temp1
  1177
  $

So far only basic testing has been done. There's a fair amount of hardware
that uses this sensor, and which also runs Linux, which should eventually
be able to use this driver.

One portability note may be of special interest. It turns out that not all
SPI controllers are happy issuing requests that do things like "write 8 bit
command, read 12 bit response". Most of them seem happy to handle various
word sizes, so the issue isn't "12 bit response" but rather "different rx
and tx write sizes", despite that being a common MicroWire convention. So
this version of the driver no longer reads 12 bit native-endian words; it
reads 16-bit big-endian responses, then byteswaps them and shifts the
results to discard the noise.

9480e307cd [PATCH] DRIVER MODEL: Get rid of the obsolete tri-level suspend/resume callbacks
In PM v1, all devices were called at SUSPEND_DISABLE level. Then
all devices were called at SUSPEND_SAVE_STATE level, and finally
SUSPEND_POWER_DOWN level. However, with PM v2, to maintain
compatibility for platform devices, I arranged for the PM v2
suspend/resume callbacks to call the old PM v1 suspend/resume
callbacks three times with each level in order so that existing
drivers continued to work.

Since this is obsolete infrastructure which is no longer necessary,
we can remove it. Here's an (untested) patch to do exactly that.

513b6e1afa [PATCH] SharpSL: Abstract c7x0 specifics from Corgi Touchscreen driver
Separate out the Sharp Zaurus c7x0 series specific code from the Corgi
Touchscreen driver. Use the new functions in corgi_lcd.c via sharpsl.h for
hsync handling and pass the IRQ as a platform device resource. Move a
function prototype into the w100fb header file where it belongs.

This enables the driver to be used by the Zaurus cxx00 series.

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history,
even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git
archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about
3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early
git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good
infrastructure for it.

Let it rip!
