Brandon Philips 0ff36f69bd staging: hv: add explanation of no-op set_multicast_list
I was going to remove netvsc_set_multicast_list() so I think it is worth
adding a comment since it isn't immediately clear why you would want
this.

Steven Rostedt 7f55f13c2c staging: ft1000: Copy from user into correct data
While doing a ktest.pl I used a MIN_CONFIG that had STAGING enabled, and
a randconfig with CONFIG_DEBUG_STRICT_USER_COPY_CHECKS enabled caught
the following bug:

In file included from /home/rostedt/work/autotest/nobackup/linux-test.git/arch/x86/include/asm/uaccess.h:571:0,
                 from /home/rostedt/work/autotest/nobackup/linux-test.git/include/linux/poll.h:14,
                 from /home/rostedt/work/autotest/nobackup/linux-test.git/drivers/staging/ft1000/ft1000-usb/ft1000_chdev.c:32:
In function 'copy_from_user',
    inlined from 'ft1000_ChIoctl' at /home/rostedt/work/autotest/nobackup/linux-test.git/drivers/staging/ft1000/ft1000-usb/ft1000_chdev.c:702:36:
/home/rostedt/work/autotest/nobackup/linux-test.git/arch/x86/include/asm/uaccess_32.h:212:26: error: call to 'copy_from_user_overflow' declared with attribute error: copy_from_user() buffer size is not provably correct

Looking at the code it was obvious what the problem was. The pointer
dpram_data was being allocated but the address was being written to.
Looking at the comment above the code shows that it use to write into an
element of that pointer where the '&' is appropriate. But now that it
writes to the pointer itself, we need to remove the '&' otherwise we
write over the pointer and not into the data it points to.

Marek Lindner 4d774a7fed Staging: batman-adv: suppress false warning when changing the mac address
Whenever the mac address of an batman interface is changed
check_known_mac_addr() is called to print a warning if the newly added
mac address exists an another batman interface. While looping through
the batman interface list check_known_mac_addr() only compares mac
addresses and does not make sure they belong to different interfaces,
thus always printing a warning.

Jesper Juhl 391a169e99 pohmelfs: remove unneeded conditionals before calls to crypto_destroy_tfm wrappers.
Hi,

crypto_free_hash() and crypto_free_ablkcipher() are just wrappers around
crypto_free_tfm() which is itself just a wrapper around
crypto_destroy_tfm().
Passing crypto_destroy_tfm() a NULL pointer is valid, so there's no reason
to check for NULL first.

Removing the unneeded conditionals (which is what the patch does) brings
us the benefit of having to execute a few fewer test/branch instructions
and also reduces object code size slightly:

Ramesh Agarwal 78fd115e21 Staging: add Synaptics TM1217 Touchscreen Controller driver
This is submitted as a staging driver because there is a more generic driver
"on the way" for all these devices and has been for some time. The intent is
that as soon as the general drivers are in the mainstream this one will get
any leftovers integrated and then be dumped. Until this unspecified future
data at least people can actually use their hardware.

As its interface is simply input layer we can do that without pain.

Daniel Lichtenberger 43f88d530e Staging: rtl8192e: fix IOMMU memory leak
Unmap the rx buffer before mapping the new one in rtl8192_rx.

Failing to do so quickly exhausts the IOMMU memory during downloads:

[...] DMA: Out of SW-IOMMU space for 9100 bytes at device ...

Using "iommu=off mem=4g" also fixes the problem because
then pci_map_single does not allocate memory.

Tested on my personal laptop with a RTL8192E device. Without this
patch the kernel quickly runs out of IOMMU memory (downloading 5 MB
of data is sufficient to trigger it), with this patch applied
I haven't experienced any issues so far.

Dan Carpenter eccbf04a90 Staging: bcm: use get_user() to access user pointers
This fixes some places that dereference user pointers directly instead
of using get_user().

Please especially check my changes to IOCTL_BCM_GET_CURRENT_STATUS. The
original code modified the struct which "arg" was pointing to. I think
this was a bug in the original code and that we only wanted to write to
the OutputBuffer. Also with the original code you could read as much
memory as you wanted so I had to put a cap on OutputLength. The only
value of OutputLength that makes sense is sizeof(LINK_STATE) so now if
OutputLength is not sizeof(LINK_STATE) it returns -EINVAL.

This silences all the sparse warnings in intel_sst_app_interface.c.
It was just a matter of adding __user annotations, I didn't find any
real bugs here. Quite a few of these were needed for stuff I added
earlier, sorry about that.

I removed a couple casts to (void *) that caused a warning like:
	drivers/staging/intel_sst/intel_sst_app_interface.c:606:27:
		warning: cast removes address space of expression
For example sst_drv_ctx->mailbox is already declared as
"void __iomem *mailbox" so casting it to void pointer isn't necessary
and it makes sparse complain because it removes the __user attribute.

Dan Carpenter e9f25689a8 Staging: sst: fixups in SNDRV_SST_STREAM_DECODE
This is another patch about copying data to the kernel before using it.

SNDRV_SST_STREAM_DECODE is sort of tricky because we need to do a
copy_from_user() that gives us another two pointers and we have copy
those. Those again give us some more pointers that we have to copy.

Besides those problems, the code had a stack overflow:
-	struct snd_sst_buff_entry ibuf_temp[param->ibufs->entries],
-		obuf_temp[param->obufs->entries];
param->ibufs->entries comes from the user.

This is another patch about making a copy of the data into kernel space
before using it. It is easy to trigger a kernel oops in the original

information to arbitrary memory locations which is a security violation.

Dan Carpenter 3b97eed201 Staging: sst: dereferencing user pointers
This code dereferences user supplied pointers directly instead of doing
a copy_from_user(). Some kernel configs put user and kernel memory in
different address spaces so this code isn't portable. Also the user
memory could be swapped out or in this case the pointer could just be
NULL leading to an oops.

Another thing is that it makes permission tests like this sort of
meaningless.
	if (minor == STREAM_MODULE && rec_mute->stream_id == 0) {
		retval = -EPERM;
		break;
	}
The user could set stream_id to 1 for the test and then change it later.

Full rewrite of the P2M DMA Engine to support scatter gather and take
advantage of some of the features of the hardware. This includes using
repeat DMA operations and line-mode transfers (for copying OSG and
video display buffers).

What isn't working: For some reason, descriptor mode is not working. I've
implemented a psuedo version (still has one-interrupt per DMA operation),
but we would get huge improvements if we could hand off a ring of
descriptors to the P2M and get back one interrupt when it was done with
all of them.

Documentation is very vague on this, and even the ODM example code
half attempts to get it right, but comments it out of the driver
because it just doesn't work *sigh*

used by most other firmware files, adds complexity, and is not providing any

Arnd Bergmann 6de5bd128d BKL: introduce CONFIG_BKL.
With all the patches we have queued in the BKL removal tree, only a
few dozen modules are left that actually rely on the BKL, and even
there are lots of low-hanging fruit. We need to decide what to do
about them, this patch illustrates one of the options:

Every user of the BKL is marked as 'depends on BKL' in Kconfig,
and the CONFIG_BKL becomes a user-visible option. If it gets
disabled, no BKL using module can be built any more and the BKL
code itself is compiled out.

The one exception is file locking, which is practically always
enabled and does a 'select BKL' instead. This effectively forces
CONFIG_BKL to be enabled until we have solved the fs/lockd
mess and can apply the patch that removes the BKL from fs/locks.c.

Pete Eberlein a716e9d75f [media] go7007: MJPEG buffer overflow
The go7007 driver has a potential buffer overflow and pointer corruption
bug which causes a crash while capturing MJPEG. The motion detection
(MODET) active_map array can be overflowed by JPEG frame data that
emulates a MODET start code. The active_map overflow overwrites the
active_buf pointer, causing a crash.

The JPEG data that emulated MODET start code was being removed from the
output, resulting in garbled JPEG frames. Therefore ignore MODET start
codes when MODET is not enabled.

Mauro Carvalho Chehab 96322b80e2 V4L/DVB: Deprecate stradis driver
The driver author seems to not worked on this driver since its conversion
from 2.2 to 2.4. Nobody is known to have a stradis hardware for testing. As
it still uses V4L1 API, BKL and probably some other old stuff, someone would
need to work on it to preserve the driver. Instead of investing time and
efforts to keep porting it to work with new API's, it seems better to just
drop the driver.

So, let's move it to drivers/staging and label it to die at 2.6.38, if nobody
cares enough to port parallel port support to gspca or to create a new driver
that uses the same gspca-cpia sub-driver.

cpia driver were re-written inside gspca driver, for USB devices. The only
functionality that were not migrated is the support for parallel port,
as:
	1) the developer didn't find any hardware;
	2) it doesn't seem important to keep support for a parallel port webcam,
	   as this is an obsolete technology;
	3) the changes at gspca for it to work with parallel port would be very large;
	4) this driver still uses BKL.

So, let's move it to drivers/staging and label it to die at 2.6.38, if nobody
cares enough to port parallel port support to gspca or to create a new driver

Dan Carpenter 388b2b97ba Staging: sst: more copy_to_user() changes
Vinod wanted the copy_to_user() calls in this format:
	if (copy_to_user())
		retval = -EFAULT;
instead of this:
	retval = copy_to_user();
	if (retval)
		retval = -EFAULt;

I've done that for the whole intel_sst_app_interface.c file. In the
process I noticed a couple more places that returned -EBUSY or -EAGAIN
instead of -EFAULT.

Dan Carpenter 9f407840bb Staging: intel_sst: off by one bug
This should be >= instead of > or we go passed the end of the array.

Also the arrays are declared with size MAX_NUM_STREAMS. This is the
only place that uses MAX_NUM_STREAMS_MFLD. It seems like asking for
trouble to use two variables for the same information. I've changed
everything to use MAX_NUM_STREAMS.

This bug isn't really harmful. In the worst case, if you enabled
debugging then you would see a message.

Julia Lawall cc58cbb885 staging: tidspbridge: Clean up error-handling code

In the second hunk, there was error handling code that returned without

Dan Carpenter fcbf77bf87 Staging: ft1000-usb: fix array overflow
The code here is supposed checking if we exited the loop without hitting
a break. The problem is that in the error handling "i" is out of bounds
and it corrupts memory when we do an info->app_info[i].nRxMsgMiss++.
>From the comments, it looks like someone noticed this corruption and
updated the code, but didn't totally fix the problem. The correct fix
is just to remove nRxMsgMiss++ from the error path.
