eaddcd7690 bonding: remove entries for master_ip and vlan_ip and query devices instead
The following patch aimed to resolve an issue where secondary, tertiary,
etc. addresses added to bond interfaces could overwrite the
bond->master_ip and vlan_ip values.

        commit 917fbdb32f
        Author: Henrik Saavedra Persson <henrik.e.persson@ericsson.com>
        Date: Wed Nov 23 23:37:15 2011 +0000

bonding: only use primary address for ARP

That patch was good because it prevented bonds using ARP monitoring from
sending frames with an invalid source IP address. Unfortunately, it
didn't always work as expected.

When using an ioctl (like ifconfig does) to set the IP address and
netmask, 2 separate ioctls are actually called to set the IP and netmask
if the mask chosen doesn't match the standard mask for that class of
address. The first ioctl did not have a mask that matched the one in
the primary address and would still cause the device address to be
overwritten. The second ioctl that was called to set the mask would
then detect as secondary and ignored, but the damage was already done.

This was not an issue when using an application that used netlink
sockets as the setting of IP and netmask came down at once. The
inconsistent behavior between those two interfaces was something that
needed to be resolved.

While I was thinking about how I wanted to resolve this, Ralf Zeidler
came with a patch that resolved this on a RHEL kernel by keeping a full
shadow of the entries in dev->ifa_list for the bonding device and vlan
devices in the bonding driver. I didn't like the duplication of the
list as I want to see the 'bonding' struct and code shrink rather than
grow, but liked the general idea.

As the Subject indicates this patch drops the master_ip and vlan_ip
elements from the 'bonding' and 'vlan_entry' structs, respectively.
This can be done because a device's address-list is now traversed to
determine the optimal source IP address for ARP requests and for checks
to see if the bonding device has a particular IP address. This code
could have all be contained inside the bonding driver, but it made more
sense to me to EXPORT and call inet_confirm_addr since it did exactly
what was needed.

I tested this and a backported patch and everything works as expected.
Ralf also helped with verification of the backported patch.

Thanks to Ralf for all his help on this.

Pull s390 patches from Martin Schwidefsky:
"The biggest patch is the rework of the smp code, something I wanted to

60b5f8f745 netfilter: nf_conntrack: permanently attach timeout policy to conntrack
We need to permanently attach the timeout policy to the conntrack,
otherwise we may apply the custom timeout policy inconsistently.

Without this patch, the following example:

nfct timeout add test inet icmp timeout 100
 iptables -I PREROUTING -t raw -p icmp -s 1.1.1.1 -j CT --timeout test

Will only apply the custom timeout policy to outgoing packets from
1.1.1.1, but not to reply packets from 2.2.2.2 going to 1.1.1.1.

To fix this issue, this patch modifies the current logic to attach the
timeout policy when the first packet is seen (which is when the
conntrack entry is created). Then, we keep using the attached timeout
policy until the conntrack entry is destroyed.

eeb4cb9523 netfilter: xt_CT: fix assignation of the generic protocol tracker
`iptables -p all' uses 0 to match all protocols, while the conntrack
subsystem uses 255. We still need `-p all' to attach the custom
timeout policies for the generic protocol tracker.

Moreover, we may use `iptables -p sctp' while the SCTP tracker is
not loaded. In that case, we have to default on the generic protocol
tracker.

Another possibility is `iptables -p ip' that should be supported
as well. This patch makes sure we validate all possible scenarios.

This function takes a GFP flags as a parameter, but they are never used.
We don't take a lock in this function so there is no reason to prefer

8d63e318c4 libceph: isolate kmap() call in write_partial_msg_pages()
In write_partial_msg_pages(), every case now does an identical call
to kmap(page). Instead, just call it once inside the CRC-computing

block, and make it a (char *) to ensure portable pointer arithmetic.

We still don't kunmap() it until after the sendpage() call, in case
that also ends up needing to use the mapping.

9bd1966344 libceph: rename "page_shift" variable to something sensible
In write_partial_msg_pages() there is a local variable used to
track the starting offset within a bio segment to use. Its name,

Since it's only used in the bio case rename it "bio_offset". Use it

0cdf9e6018 libceph: get rid of zero_page_address
There's not a lot of benefit to zero_page_address, which basically
holds a mapping of the zero page through the life of the messenger
module. Even with our own mapping, the sendpage interface where
it's used may need to kmap() it again. It's almost certain to
be in low memory anyway.

So stop treating the zero page specially in write_partial_msg_pages()

37675b0f42 libceph: fix inverted crc option logic
CRC's are computed for all messages between ceph entities. The CRC
computation for the data portion of message can optionally be
disabled using the "nocrc" (common) ceph option. The default is
for CRC computation for the data portion to be enabled.

Unfortunately, the code that implements this feature interprets the
feature flag wrong, meaning that by default the CRC's have *not*
been computed (or checked) for the data portion of messages unless
the "nocrc" option was supplied.

Fix this, in write_partial_msg_pages() and read_partial_message().
Also change the flag variable in write_partial_msg_pages() to be
"no_datacrc" to match the usage elsewhere in the file.

A spinlock is used to protect a value used for selecting an array
index for a string used for formatting a socket address for human

Instead, use an ever-increasing atomic variable as a sequence
number, and compute the array index by masking off all but the
sequence number's lowest bits. Make the number of entries in the
array a power of two to allow the use of such a mask (to avoid jumps
in the index value when the sequence number wraps).

The length of these strings is somewhat arbitrarily set at 60 bytes.
The worst-case length of a string produced is 54 bytes, for an IPv6
address that can't be shortened, e.g.:

NET_IP_ALIGN bytes.

However, when such skb is recycled in napi_reuse_skb(), it ends with a
reserve of NET_IP_ALIGN which is suboptimal.

While testing L2TP functionality, I came across a bug in getsockname(). The
IP address returned within the pppol2tp_addr's addr memember was not being
set to the IP address in use. This bug is caused by using inet_sk() on the
wrong socket (the L2TP socket rather than the underlying UDP socket), and was
likely introduced during the addition of L2TPv3 support.

Linus Torvalds
9c2b957db1 Merge branch 'perf-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull perf events changes for v3.4 from Ingo Molnar:

 - New "hardware based branch profiling" feature both on the kernel and
the tooling side, on CPUs that support it. (modern x86 Intel CPUs
with the 'LBR' hardware feature currently.)

This new feature is basically a sophisticated 'magnifying glass' for
branch execution - something that is pretty difficult to extract from
   regular, function histogram centric profiles.

The simplest mode is activated via 'perf record -b', and the result
looks like this in perf report:

	$ perf record -b any_call,u -e cycles:u branchy

	$ perf report -b --sort=symbol
	    52.34% [.] main [.] f1
	    24.04% [.] f1 [.] f3
	    23.60% [.] f1 [.] f2
	     0.01% [k] _IO_new_file_xsputn [k] _IO_file_overflow
	     0.01% [k] _IO_vfprintf_internal [k] _IO_new_file_xsputn
	     0.01% [k] _IO_vfprintf_internal [k] strchrnul
	     0.01% [k] __printf [k] _IO_vfprintf_internal
	     0.01% [k] main [k] __printf

This output shows from/to branch columns and shows the highest
percentage (from,to) jump combinations - i.e. the most likely taken
branches in the system. "branches" can also include function calls
and any other synchronous and asynchronous transitions of the
instruction pointer that are not 'next instruction' - such as system
   calls, traps, interrupts, etc.

This feature comes with (hopefully intuitive) flat ascii and TUI
   support in perf report.

 - Various 'perf annotate' visual improvements for us assembly junkies.
It will now recognize function calls in the TUI and by hitting enter
you can follow the call (recursively) and back, amongst other
   improvements.

 - Multiple threads/processes recording support in perf record, perf
stat, perf top - which is activated via a comma-list of PIDs:

	perf top -p 21483,21485
	perf stat -p 21483,21485 -ddd
	perf record -p 21483,21485

 - Support for per UID views, via the --uid paramter to perf top, perf
report, etc. For example 'perf top --uid mingo' will only show the
tasks that I am running, excluding other users, root, etc.

 - Jump label restructurings and improvements - this includes the
factoring out of the (hopefully much clearer) include/linux/static_key.h
   generic facility:

	struct static_key key = STATIC_KEY_INIT_FALSE;

	...

	if (static_key_false(&key))
	        do unlikely code
	else
	        do likely code

	...
	static_key_slow_inc();
	...
	static_key_slow_inc();
	...

The static_key_false() branch will be generated into the code with as
little impact to the likely code path as possible. the
static_key_slow_*() APIs flip the branch via live kernel code patching.

This facility can now be used more widely within the kernel to
micro-optimize hot branches whose likelihood matches the static-key
   usage and fast/slow cost patterns.

 - SW function tracer improvements: perf support and filtering support.

 - Various hardenings of the perf.data ABI, to make older perf.data's
smoother on newer tool versions, to make new features integrate more
smoothly, to support cross-endian recording/analyzing workflows
   better, etc.

 - Restructuring of the kprobes code, the splitting out of 'optprobes',
   and a corner case bugfix.

 - Allow the tracing of kernel console output (printk).

 - Improvements/fixes to user-space RDPMC support, allowing user-space
self-profiling code to extract PMU counts without performing any
system calls, while playing nice with the kernel side.

 - 'perf bench' improvements

 - ... and lots of internal restructurings, cleanups and fixes that made
these features possible. And, as usual this list is incomplete as
there were also lots of other improvements

This allows us to turn on/off the dprintk() debugging interfaces for
those distributions that don't ship the 'rpcdebug' utility.
It also allows us to add Kbuild dependencies. Specifically, we already
know that dprintk() in general relies on CONFIG_SYSCTL. Now it turns out
that the NFS dprintks depend on CONFIG_CRC32 after we added support
for the filehandle hash.

Since commit 299b0767(ipv6: Fix IPsec slowpath fragmentation problem)
In func ip6_append_data,after call skb_put(skb, fraglen + dst_exthdrlen)

c8628155ec tcp: reduce out_of_order memory use
With increasing receive window sizes, but speed of light not improved
that much, out of order queue can contain a huge number of skbs, waiting
to be moved to receive_queue when missing packets can fill the holes.

Some devices happen to use fat skbs (truesize of 4096 + sizeof(struct
sk_buff)) to store regular (MTU <= 1500) frames. This makes highly
probable sk_rmem_alloc hits sk_rcvbuf limit, which can be 4Mbytes in
many cases.

When limit is hit, tcp stack calls tcp_collapse_ofo_queue(), a true
latency killer and cpu cache blower.

Doing the coalescing attempt each time we add a frame in ofo queue
permits to keep memory use tight and in many cases avoid the
tcp_collapse() thing later.

Tested on various wireless setups (b43, ath9k, ...) known to use big skb
truesize, this patch removed the "packets collapsed in receive queue due
to low socket buffer" I had before.

This also reduced average memory used by tcp sockets.

540a0f7584 SUNRPC: We must not use list_for_each_entry_safe() in rpc_wake_up()
The problem is that for the case of priority queues, we
have to assume that __rpc_remove_wait_queue_priority will move new
elements from the tk_wait.links lists into the queue->tasks[] list.
We therefore cannot use list_for_each_entry_safe() on queue->tasks[],
since that will skip these new tasks that __rpc_remove_wait_queue_priority
is adding.

Without this fix, rpc_wake_up and rpc_wake_up_status will both fail
to wake up all functions on priority wait queues, which can result
in some nasty hangs.

124d37e9f0 arp: allow arp processing to honor per interface arp_accept sysctl
I found recently that the arp_process function which handles all of our received
arp frames, is using IPV4_DEVCONF_ALL macro to check the state of the arp_process
flag. This seems wrong, as it implies that either none or all of the network
interfaces accept gratuitous arps. This patch corrects that, allowing
per-interface arp_accept configuration to deviate from the all setting. Note
this also brings us into line with the way the arp_filter setting is handled
during arp_process execution.

Tested this myself on my home network, and confirmed it works as expected.

cc34eb672e sch_sfq: revert dont put new flow at the end of flows
This reverts commit d47a0ac7b6 (sch_sfq: dont put new flow at the end of
flows)

As Jesper found out, patch sounded great but has bad side effects.

In stress situation, pushing new flows in front of the queue can prevent
old flows doing any progress. Packets can stay in SFQ queue for
unlimited amount of time.

It's possible to add heuristics to limit this problem, but this would
add complexity outside of SFQ scope.

A more sensible answer to Dave Taht concerns (who reported the issued I
tried to solve in original commit) is probably to use a qdisc hierarchy
so that high prio packets dont enter a potentially crowded SFQ qdisc.

3117bbdb78 mac80211: Don't let regulatory make us deaf
When regulatory information changes our HT behavior (e.g,
when we get a country code from the AP we have just associated
with), we should use this information to change the power with
which we transmit, and what channels we transmit. Sometimes
the channel parameters we derive from regulatory information
contradicts the parameters we used in association. For example,
we could have associated specifying HT40, but the regulatory
rules we apply may forbid HT40 operation.

In the situation above, we should reconfigure ourselves to
transmit in HT20 only, however it makes no sense for us to
disable receive in HT40, since if we associated with these
parameters, the AP has every reason to expect we can and
will receive packets this way. The code in mac80211 does
not have the capability of sending the appropriate action
frames to signal a change in HT behaviour so the AP has
no clue we can no longer receive frames encoded this way.
In some broken AP implementations, this can leave us
effectively deaf if the AP never retries in lower HT rates.

This change breaks up the channel_type parameter in the
ieee80211_enable_ht function into a separate receive and
transmit part. It honors the channel flags set by regulatory
in order to configure the rate control algorithm, but uses
the capability flags to configure the channel on the radio,
since these were used in association to set the AP's transmit
rate.

dfd25ffffc tcp: fix syncookie regression
commit ea4fc0d619 (ipv4: Don't use rt->rt_{src,dst} in ip_queue_xmit())
added a serious regression on synflood handling.

Simon Kirby discovered a successful connection was delayed by 20 seconds
before being responsive.

In my tests, I discovered that xmit frames were lost, and needed ~4
retransmits and a socket dst rebuild before being really sent.

In case of syncookie initiated connection, we use a different path to
initialize the socket dst, and inet->cork.fl.u.ip4 is left cleared.

As ip_queue_xmit() now depends on inet flow being setup, fix this by
copying the temp flowi4 we use in cookie_v4_check().

51990e8254 device.h: cleanup users outside of linux/include (C files)
For files that are actively using linux/device.h, make sure
that they call it out. This will allow us to clean up some
of the implicit uses of linux/device.h within include/*

Yes, this was created by "cheating" -- i.e. the headers were
cleaned up, and then the fallout was found and fixed, and then
the two commits were reordered. This ensures we don't introduce

fde15c3a3a [S390] irq: external interrupt code passing
The external interrupt handlers have a parameter called ext_int_code.
Besides the name this paramter does not only contain the ext_int_code
but in addition also the "cpu address" (POP) which caused the external
interrupt.
To make the code a bit more obvious pass a struct instead so the called
function can easily distinguish between external interrupt code and
cpu address. The cpu address field however is named "subcode" since
some external interrupt sources do not pass a cpu address but a
different parameter (or none at all).

fcff4f108d mac80211: Filter duplicate IE ids
mac80211 is lenient with respect to reception of corrupted beacons.
Even if the frame is corrupted as a whole, the available IE elements
are still passed back and accepted, sometimes replacing legitimate
data. It is unknown to what extent this "feature" is made use of,
but it is clear that in some cases, this is detrimental. One such
case is reported in http://crosbug.com/26832 where an AP corrupts
its beacons but not its probe responses.

One approach would be to completely reject frames with invaid data
(for example, if the last tag extends beyond the end of the enclosing
PDU). The enclosed approach is much more conservative: we simply
prevent later IEs from overwriting the state from previous ones.
This approach hopes that there might be some salient data in the
IE stream before the corruption, and seeks to at least prevent that
data from being overwritten. This approach will fix the case above.

Further, we flag element structures that contain data we think might
be corrupted, so that as we fill the mac80211 BSS structure, we try
not to replace data from an un-corrupted probe response with that
of a corrupted beacon, for example.

Short of any statistics gathering in the various forms of AP breakage,
it's not possible to ascertain the side effects of more stringent
discarding of data.

24de58f465 netfilter: xt_CT: allow to attach timeout policy + glue code
This patch allows you to attach the timeout policy via the
CT target, it adds a new revision of the target to ensure
backward compatibility. Moreover, it also contains the glue
code to stick the timeout object defined via nfnetlink_cttimeout
to the given flow.

Example usage (it requires installing the nfct tool and
libnetfilter_cttimeout):

1) create the timeout policy:

nfct timeout add tcp-policy0 inet tcp \
	established 1000 close 10 time_wait 10 last_ack 10

2) attach the timeout policy to the packet:

 iptables -I PREROUTING -t raw -p tcp -j CT --timeout tcp-policy0

You have to install the following user-space software:

a) libnetfilter_cttimeout:
   git://git.netfilter.org/libnetfilter_cttimeout

b) nfct:
   git://git.netfilter.org/nfct

You also have to get iptables with -j CT --timeout support.

739e4505a0 bridge: netfilter: don't call iptables on vlan packets if sysctl is off
When net.bridge.bridge-nf-filter-vlan-tagged is 0 (default), vlan packets
arriving should not be sent to ip(6)tables by bridge netfilter.

However, it turns out that we currently always send VLAN packets to
netfilter, if ..
a), CONFIG_VLAN_8021Q is enabled ; or
b), CONFIG_VLAN_8021Q is not set but rx vlan offload is enabled
   on the bridge port.

This is because bridge netfilter treats skb with
skb->protocol == ETH_P_IP{V6} as "non-vlan packet".

With rx vlan offload on or CONFIG_VLAN_8021Q=y, the vlan header has
already been removed here, and we cannot rely on skb->protocol alone.

Fix this by only using skb->protocol if the skb has no vlan tag,
or if a vlan tag is present and filter-vlan-tagged bridge netfilter
sysctl is enabled.

We cannot remove the skb->protocol == htons(ETH_P_8021Q) test
because the vlan tag is still around in the CONFIG_VLAN_8021Q=n &&
"ethtool -K $itf rxvlan off" case.

reproducer:
iptables -t raw -I PREROUTING -i br0
iptables -t raw -I PREROUTING -i br0.1

Then send packets to an ip address configured on br0.1 interface.
Even with net.bridge.bridge-nf-filter-vlan-tagged=0, the 1st rule
will match instead of the 2nd one.

With this patch applied, the 2nd rule will match instead.
In the non-local address case, netfilter won't be consulted after
this patch unless the sysctl is switched on.

4648dc97af tcp: fix tcp_shift_skb_data() to not shift SACKed data below snd_una
This commit fixes tcp_shift_skb_data() so that it does not shift
SACKed data below snd_una.

This fixes an issue whose symptoms exactly match reports showing
tp->sacked_out going negative since 3.3.0-rc4 (see "WARNING: at
net/ipv4/tcp_input.c:3418" thread on netdev).

Since 2008 (832d11c5cd)
tcp_shift_skb_data() had been shifting SACKed ranges that were below
snd_una. It checked that the *end* of the skb it was about to shift
from was above snd_una, but did not check that the end of the actual
shifted range was above snd_una; this commit adds that check.

Shifting SACKed ranges below snd_una is problematic because for such
ranges tcp_sacktag_one() short-circuits: it does not declare anything
as SACKed and does not increase sacked_out.

Before the fixes in commits cc9a672ee5
and daef52bab1, shifting SACKed ranges
below snd_una happened to work because tcp_shifted_skb() was always
(incorrectly) passing in to tcp_sacktag_one() an skb whose end_seq
tcp_shift_skb_data() had already guaranteed was beyond snd_una. Hence
tcp_sacktag_one() never short-circuited and always increased
tp->sacked_out in this case.

After those two fixes, my testing has verified that shifting SACKed
ranges below snd_una could cause tp->sacked_out to go negative with
the following sequence of events:

(1) tcp_shift_skb_data() sees an skb whose end_seq is beyond snd_una,
then shifts a prefix of that skb that is below snd_una

(2) tcp_shifted_skb() increments the packet count of the
    already-SACKed prev sk_buff

(3) tcp_sacktag_one() sees the end of the new SACKed range is below
    snd_una, so it short-circuits and doesn't increase tp->sacked_out

(5) tcp_clean_rtx_queue() sees the SACKed skb has been ACKed,
decrements tp->sacked_out by this "inflated" pcount that was
missing a matching increase in tp->sacked_out, and hence
    tp->sacked_out underflows to a u32 like 0xFFFFFFFF, which casted
    to s32 is negative.

(6) this leads to the warnings seen in the recent "WARNING: at
net/ipv4/tcp_input.c:3418" thread on the netdev list; e.g.:
    tcp_input.c:3418  WARN_ON((int)tp->sacked_out < 0);

More generally, I think this bug can be tickled in some cases where
two or more ACKs from the receiver are lost and then a DSACK arrives
that is immediately above an existing SACKed skb in the write queue.

This fix changes tcp_shift_skb_data() to abort this sequence at step
(1) in the scenario above by noticing that the bytes are below snd_una
and not shifting them.

77a1abf54f net: export netdev_stats_to_stats64
Some drivers use internal netdev stats member to store part of their
stats, yet advertize ndo_get_stats64() to implement some 64bit fields.

Allow them to use netdev_stats_to_stats64() helper to make the copy of
netdev stats before they compute their 64bit counters.

fe8431f89e mac80211: add an rx flag for ignoring a packet's signal strength
For A-MPDU rx it makes sense to only process the signal strength once per
aggregate instead of once per subframe. Additonally, some hardware (e.g.
Atheros) only provides valid signal strength information for the last
subframe.

888d04dfbe mac80211: use compare_ether_addr on MAC addresses instead of memcmp
Because of the constant size and guaranteed 16 bit alignment, the inline
compare_ether_addr function is much cheaper than calling memcmp.

4d196e4b2f mac80211: use 16 bit alignment for the if_ibss bssid field
Several MAC address comparison functions assume 16 bit alignment for pointers
passed to them. Since the addition of the control_port field, alignment
for the IBSS bssid was off by one, causing a severe performance hit on
architectures without efficient unaligned access (e.g. MIPS).

5533513784 {nl,cfg,mac}80211: Implement RSSI threshold for mesh peering
Mesh peer links are established only if average rssi of the peer
candidate satisfies the threshold. This is not in 802.11s specification
but was requested by David Fulgham, an open80211s user. This is a way to avoid
marginal peer links with stations that are barely within range.

This patch adds a new mesh configuration parameter, mesh_rssi_threshold. This
feature is supported only for hardwares that report signal in dBm.

709e1b5cd9 bridge: message age needs to increase, not decrease.
commit bridge: send proper message_age in config BPDU
added this gem:
  bpdu.message_age = (jiffies - root->designated_age)
  p->designated_age = jiffies + bpdu->message_age;
Notice how bpdu->message_age is negated when reassigned to
bpdu.message_age. This causes message age to decrease breaking the
STP protocol.

4b32da2bcf ppp: Replace uses of <linux/if_ppp.h> with <linux/ppp-ioctl.h>
Since all that include/linux/if_ppp.h does is #include <linux/ppp-ioctl.h>,
this replaces the occurrences of #include <linux/if_ppp.h> with
#include <linux/ppp-ioctl.h>.

It also corrects an error in Documentation/networking/l2tp.txt, where
it referenced include/linux/if_ppp.h as the source of some definitions
that are actually now defined in include/linux/if_pppol2tp.h.
