Yinghai Lu 2f68891314 x86/agp: tighten check to update amd nb aperture
Impact: fix bug to make agp work with dri

Jeffrey reported that dri does work with 64bit, but doesn't work with
32bit it turns out NB aperture is 32M, aperture on agp is 128M

64bit is using 64M for vaidation for 64 iommu/gart 32bit is only using
32M..., and will not update the nb aperture.

So try to compare nb apterture and agp apterture before leaving not
touch nb aperture.

Keith Packard 44d4944172 agp/intel: Reduce extraneous PCI posting reads during init
Instead of doing a posting read after each GTT entry update, do a single one
at the end of the writes. This should reduce boot time a tiny amount by
avoiding a lot of extra uncached reads.

Eric Anholt 82e14a6215 agp: Fix stolen memory counting on G4X.
On the GM45, the amount of stolen memory mapped to the GTT was underestimated,
even though we had 508KB more available since the GTT doesn't take from
stolen memory. On the non-GM45 G4X, we overestimated how much stolen was
mapped to the GTT by 4KB, resulting in GPU page faults when that page was
accessed.

This update requires a corresponding update to xf86-video-intel to work
correctly.

Rene Herman 5f310b6378 agp: enable optimized agp_alloc_pages methods
The pageattr-array patch that you currently have in tip/master only
enables it for intel-agp, not the others. The attached enables it for
all drivers currently directly using agp_generic_alloc_page() and
agp_generic_destroy_page() (ocal driver is amd-k7-agp).

The new agp_generic_alloc_pages() interface uses the also new
pageattr array interface API. This makes all AGP drivers that
up to now used generic_{alloc,destroy}_page() use it.

Shaohua Li 466ae83742 reduce tlb/cache flush times of agpgart memory allocation
To reduce tlb/cache flush, makes agp memory allocation do one flush
after all pages in a region are changed to uc.

All agp drivers except agp-sgi uses agp_generic_alloc_page()
for .agp_alloc_page, so the patch should work for them. agp-sgi is only
for ia64, so not a problem too.

Keith Packard a8c84df9f7 intel/agp: rewrite GTT on resume
On my Intel chipset (965GM), the GTT is entirely erased across
suspend/resume.  This patch simply re-plays the current mapping at resume
time to restore the table.=20

I noticed this once I started relying on persistent GTT mappings across VT
switch in our GEM work -- the old X server and DRM code carefully unbind
all memory from the GTT on VT switch, but GEM does not bother.

I placed the list management and rewrite code in the generic layer on the
assumption that it will be needed on other hardware, but I did not add the
rewrite call to anything other than the Intel resume function.

Keep a list of current GATT mappings.  At resume time, rewrite them into
the GATT.  This is needed on Intel (at least) as the entire GATT is
cleared across suspend/resume.

Bjorn Helgaas 55814b74c9 amd64-agp: run fallback when no bridges found, not when driver registration fails
I think the intent was that if no bridges matched agp_amd64_pci_table[],
we would fall back to checking for any bridge with the AGP capability.
But in the current code, we execute the fallback path only when
pci_register_driver() itself fails, which is unrelated to whether any
matching devices were found.

This patch counts the AGP bridges found in the probe() method and executes
the fallback path when none is found.

Jan Beulich da503fa60b agp: two-stage page destruction issue
besides it apparently being useful only in 2.6.24 (the changes in 2.6.25
really mean that it could be converted back to a single-stage mechanism),
I'm seeing an issue in Xen Dom0 kernels, which is caused by the calling
of gart_to_virt() in the second stage invocations of the destroy function.
I think that besides this being a real issue with Xen (where
unmap_page_from_agp() is not just a page table attribute change), this
also is invalid from a theoretical perspective: One should not assume that
gart_to_virt() is still valid after unmapping a page. So minimally (keeping
the 2-stage mechanism) a patch like the one below would be needed.

Yinghai Lu 8c9fd91a0d x86: checking aperture size order
some systems are using 32M for gart and agp when memory is less than 4G.
Kernel will reject and try to allcate another 64M that is not needed,
and we will waste 64M of perfectly good RAM.

this patch adds a workaround by checking aper_base/order between NB and
agp bridge. If they are the same, and memory size is less than 4G, it
will allow it.

	agpgart: Consider rebooting with iommu=memaper=2 to get a good aperture.

it means BIOS allocated the correct gart on the NB and AGP bridge, but
because a bug in the silicon (the agp bridge reports the wrong order,
it wants 4G instead) the kernel will reject that allocation.

Also, because the size is only 32MB, and we try to get another 64M for gart,
late fix_northbridge can not revert that change because it still reads
the wrong size from agp bridge.

So try to double check the order value from the agp bridge, before calling
aperture_valid().

Mathieu Segaud 09aa356b55 agp: convert drivers/char/agp/frontend.c to use unlocked_ioctl
As of now, agp_compat_ioctl already runs without the BKL.  Mutual exclusion
is enforced by agp_fe.agp_mutex in agp_ioctl() and agp_compat_ioctl().
Apply the same locking rationale to the two functions allowing BKL cleanup.

Arjan van dev Ven fcea424d31 fix historic ioremap() abuse in AGP
Several AGP drivers right now use ioremap_nocache() on kernel ram in order
to turn a page of regular memory uncached.

There are two problems with this:

    1) This is a total nightmare for the ioremap() implementation to keep
       various mappings of the same page coherent.

    2) It's a total nightmare for the AGP code since it adds a ton of
       complexity in terms of keeping track of 2 different pointers to
       the same thing, in terms of error handling etc etc.

This patch fixes this by making the AGP drivers use the new
set_memory_XX APIs instead.

Note: amd-k7-agp.c is built on Alpha too, and generic.c is built
on ia64 as well, which do not yet have the set_memory_*() APIs,
so for them some we have a few ugly #ifdefs - hopefully they'll
be fixed soon.

The flush code resource handling was having problems where some BIOS
reserve the resource in a pnp block and some don't.

Also there was a bug in that configure was being called at resume

Dave Airlie a13af4b4d8 agp: add chipset flushing support to AGP interface
This bumps the AGP interface to 0.103.

Certain Intel chipsets contains a global write buffer, and this can require
flushing from the drm or X.org to make sure all data has hit RAM before
initiating a GPU transfer, due to a lack of coherency with the integrated
graphics device and this buffer.

This just adds generic support to the AGP interfaces, a follow-on patch
will add support to the Intel driver to use this interface.

Jesper Juhl bdc3e603cd fix use after free in amd create gatt pages
Coverity spotted a "use after free" bug in
drivers/char/agp/amd-k7-agp.c::amd_create_gatt_pages().

The problem is this:
	If "entry = kzalloc(sizeof(struct amd_page_map), GFP_KERNEL);"
fails, then there's a loop in the function to free all entries
allocated so far and break out of the allocation loop. That in itself
is pretty sane, but then the (now freed) 'tables' is assigned to
amd_irongate_private.gatt_pages and 'retval' is set to -ENOMEM which
causes amd_free_gatt_pages(); to be called at the end of the function.
The problem with this is that amd_free_gatt_pages() will then loop
'amd_irongate_private.num_tables' times and try to free each entry in
tables[] - this is bad since tables has already been freed and
furthermore it will call kfree(tables) at the end - a double free.

This patch removes the freeing loop in amd_create_gatt_pages() and
instead relies entirely on the call to amd_free_gatt_pages() to free
everything we allocated in case of an error. It also sets
amd_irongate_private.num_tables to the actual number of entries
allocated instead of just using the value passed in from the caller -
this ensures that amd_free_gatt_pages() will only attempt to free
stuff that was actually allocated.

Dave Airlie a2721e998e AGP fix race condition between unmapping and freeing pages
With Andi's clflush fixup, we were getting hangs on server exit, flushing the
mappings after freeing each page helped.

This showed up a race condition where the pages after being freed could be
reused before the agp mappings had been flushed.  Flushing after each single
page is a bad thing for future drm work, so make the page destroy a two pass
unmapping all the pages, flushing the mappings, and then destroying the pages.

This patch removes the freeing loop in ati_create_gatt_pages() and
instead relies entirely on the call to ati_free_gatt_pages() to free
everything we allocated in case of an error. It also sets
ati_generic_private.num_tables to the actual number of entries
allocated instead of just using the value passed in from the caller -
this ensures that ati_free_gatt_pages() will only attempt to free
stuff that was actually allocated.

Note: I'm in no way intimate with this code and I have no way to
actually test this patch (besides compile test it), so while I've
tried to be careful in reading the code and make sure the patch
does the right thing an ACK from someone who actually knows the
code in-depth would be very much appreciated.

Auke Kok 44c10138fd PCI: Change all drivers to use pci_device->revision
Instead of all drivers reading pci config space to get the revision
ID, they can now use the pci_device->revision member.

This exposes some issues where drivers where reading a word or a dword
for the revision number, and adding useless error-handling around the
read. Some drivers even just read it for no purpose of all.

In devices where the revision ID is being copied over and used in what
appears to be the equivalent of hotpath, I have left the copy code
and the cached copy as not to influence the driver's performance.

Compile tested with make all{yes,mod}config on x86_64 and i386.

Most of the AGP changes recently have been done in lock-step with
DRM updates, so it's probably easier to have airlied pushing
AGP changes at the same time he does DRM updates.

 Cautionary tale to others: Never do this, when computers
 don't boot, people assume you're responsible even if 15
 other subsystems initialised after yours. :-) ]

Wang Zhenyu 47d46379eb [AGPGART] intel_agp: don't load if no IGD and AGP port
After i915 chip, GMCH has no AGP port. Origin bridge driver in device
table will try to access illegal regs like APBASE, APSIZE, etc. This
may cause problem.

So mark them as NULL in the table, we won't load if no IGD got detect
and bridge has no AGP port.

This patch trys to fix device probe in two cases. First we should
correctly detect device if integrated graphics device is not enabled
or exists, like an add-in card is plugged. Second on some type of intel
GMCH, it might have multiple graphic chip models, like 945GME case, so
we should be sure the detect works through the whole table.

Wang Zhenyu 9614ece14f [AGPGART] intel_agp: use table for device probe
Fixed issues noted by Christoph Hellwig, and I changed device table
scan a bit to allow the case that some models of graphics chips may
have same host bridge type. This type of chip will be added in the future.
