VM Sockets allows communication between virtual machines and the hypervisor.
User level applications both in a virtual machine and on the host can use the
VM Sockets API, which facilitates fast and efficient communication between
guest virtual machines and their host. A socket address family, designed to be
compatible with UDP and TCP at the interface level, is provided.
Today, VM Sockets is used by various VMware Tools components inside the guest
for zero-config, network-less access to VMware host services. In addition to
this, VMware's users are using VM Sockets for various applications, where
network access of the virtual machine is restricted or non-existent. Examples
of this are VMs communicating with device proxies for proprietary hardware
running as host applications and automated testing of applications running
within virtual machines.
The VMware VM Sockets are similar to other socket types, like Berkeley UNIX
socket interface. The VM Sockets module supports both connection-oriented
stream sockets like TCP, and connectionless datagram sockets like UDP. The VM
Sockets protocol family is defined as "AF_VSOCK" and the socket operations
split for SOCK_DGRAM and SOCK_STREAM.

In sctp_auth_make_key_vector, we allocate a temporary sctp_auth_bytes
structure with kmalloc instead of the sctp_auth_create_key allocator.
Change this to sctp_auth_create_key as it is the case everywhere else,
so that we also can properly free it via sctp_auth_key_put. This makes
it easier for future code changes in the structure and allocator itself,
since a single API is consistently used for this purpose. Also, by
using sctp_auth_create_key we're doing sanity checks over the arguments.

In order to address the fact that some devices cannot support the full 32K
frag size we need to have the value accessible somewhere so that we can use it
to do comparisons against what the device can support. As such I am moving
the values out of skbuff.c and into skbuff.h.

When GSSAPI integrity signatures are in use, or when we're using GSSAPI
privacy with the v2 token format, there is a trailing checksum on the
xdr_buf that is returned.
It's checked during the authentication stage, and afterward nothing
cares about it. Ordinarily, it's not a problem since the XDR code
generally ignores it, but it will be when we try to compute a checksum
over the buffer to help prevent XID collisions in the duplicate reply
cache.
Fix the code to trim off the checksums after verifying them. Note that
in unwrap_integ_data, we must avoid trying to reverify the checksum if
the request was deferred since it will no longer be present when it's
revisited.

In sctp_setsockopt_auth_key, we create a temporary copy of the user
passed shared auth key for the endpoint or association and after
internal setup, we free it right away. Since it's sensitive data, we
should zero out the key before returning the memory back to the
allocator. Thus, use kzfree instead of kfree, just as we do in
sctp_auth_key_put().

If gb_len is less than 3 it would cause an integer underflow and
possibly memory corruption in nfc_llcp_parse_gb_tlv().
I removed the old test for gb_len == 0. I also removed the test for
->remote_gb == NULL. It's not possible for ->remote_gb to be NULL and
we have already dereferenced ->remote_gb_len so it's too late to test.
The old test return -ENODEV but my test returns -EINVAL.

Andrew Savchenko reported a DNS failure and we diagnosed that
some UDP sockets were unable to send more packets because their
sk_wmem_alloc was corrupted after a while (tx_queue column in

Playing with skb->truesize is tricky, especially when
skb is attached to a socket, as we can fool memory charging.
Just remove this code, its not worth trying to be ultra
precise in xmit path.

Cast __wsum from/to __sum16 is wrong. Instead, apply appropriate
conversion function: csum_unfold() or csum_fold().

ip6gre_tunnel_xmit() is leaking the skb when we hit this error branch,
and the -1 return value from this function is bogus. Use the error
handling we already have in place in ip6gre_tunnel_xmit() for this error

On 64 bit arches :
There is a off-by-one error in qdisc_pkt_len_init() because
mac_header is not set in xmit path.
skb_mac_header() returns an out of bound value that was
harmless because hdr_len is an 'unsigned int'
On 32bit arches, the error is abysmal.

skb_gso_segment() is almost always called in tx path,
except for openvswitch. It calls this function when
it receives the packet and tries to queue it to user-space.
In this special case, the ->ip_summed check inside
skb_gso_segment() is no longer true, as ->ip_summed value
has different meanings on rx path.
This patch adjusts skb_gso_segment() so that we can at least
avoid such warnings on checksum.

There are transients during normal FRTO procedure during which
the packets_in_flight can go to zero between write_queue state
updates and firing the resulting segments out. As FRTO processing
occurs during that window the check must be more precise to
not match "spuriously" :-). More specificly, e.g., when
packets_in_flight is zero but FLAG_DATA_ACKED is true the problematic
branch that set cwnd into zero would not be taken and new segments
might be sent out later.

Ivan Vercera was recently backporting commit
9c13cb8bb4 to a RHEL kernel, and I noticed that,
while this patch protects the tg3 driver from having its ndo_poll_controller
routine called during device initalization, it does nothing for the driver
during shutdown. I.e. it would be entirely possible to have the
ndo_poll_controller method (or subsequently the ndo_poll) routine called for a
driver in the netpoll path on CPU A while in parallel on CPU B, the ndo_close or
ndo_open routine could be called. Given that the two latter routines tend to
initizlize and free many data structures that the former two rely on, the result
can easily be data corruption or various other crashes. Furthermore, it seems
that this is potentially a problem with all net drivers that support netpoll,
and so this should ideally be fixed in a common path.
As Ben H Pointed out to me, we can't preform dev_open/dev_close in atomic
context, so I've come up with this solution. We can use a mutex to sleep in
open/close paths and just do a mutex_trylock in the napi poll path and abandon
the poll attempt if we're locked, as we'll just retry the poll on the next send
anyway.
I've tested this here by flooding netconsole with messages on a system whos nic
driver I modfied to periodically return NETDEV_TX_BUSY, so that the netpoll tx
workqueue would be forced to send frames and poll the device. While this was
going on I rapidly ifdown/up'ed the interface and watched for any problems.
I've not found any.

All in-kernel users of class_find_device() don't really need mutable
data for match callback.
In two places (kernel/power/suspend_test.c, drivers/scsi/osd/osd_uld.c)
this patch changes match callbacks to use const search data.
The const is propagated to rtc_class_open() and power_supply_get_by_name()
parameters.
Note that there's a dev reference leak in suspend_test.c that's not
touched in this patch.

Calling icmpv6_send() on a local message size error leads to an
incorrect update of the path mtu in the case when IPsec is used.
So use ipv6_local_error() instead to notify the socket about the
error.

The xfrm gc threshold can be configured via xfrm{4,6}_gc_thresh
sysctl but currently only in init_net, other namespaces always
use the default value. This can substantially limit the number
of IPsec tunnels that can be effectively used.

As the default, we blackhole packets until the key manager resolves
the states. This patch implements a packet queue where IPsec packets
are queued until the states are resolved. We generate a dummy xfrm
bundle, the output routine of the returned route enqueues the packet
to a per policy queue and arms a timer that checks for state resolution
when dst_output() is called. Once the states are resolved, the packets
are sent out of the queue. If the states are not resolved after some
time, the queue is flushed.
This patch keeps the defaut behaviour to blackhole packets as long
as we have no states. To enable the packet queue the sysctl
xfrm_larval_drop must be switched off.

In our test lab, we have a simple SCTP client connecting to a SCTP
server via an IPVS load balancer. On some machines, load balancing
works, but on others the initial handshake just fails, thus no
SCTP connection whatsoever can be established!
We observed that the SCTP INIT-ACK handshake reply from the IPVS
machine to the client had a correct IP checksum, but corrupt SCTP
checksum when forwarded, thus on the client-side the packet was
dropped and an intial handshake retriggered until all attempts
run into the void.
To fix this issue, this patch i) adds a missing CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY
after the full checksum (re-)calculation (as done in IPVS TCP and UDP
code as well), ii) calculates the checksum in little-endian format
(as fixed with the SCTP code in commit 4458f04c: sctp: Clean up sctp
checksumming code) and iii) refactors duplicate checksum code into a
common function. Tested by myself.

TCP Appropriate Byte Count was added by me, but later disabled.
There is no point in maintaining it since it is a potential source
of bugs and Linux already implements other better window protection
heuristics.

All in-tree ipv4 protocol implementations are now namespace
aware. Therefore all the run-time checks are superfluous.
Reject registry of any non-namespace aware ipv4 protocol.
Eventually we'll remove prot->netns_ok and this registry
time check as well.

The tunnel and session lookups have per-namespace tables,

When creating unmanaged tunnel sockets we should honour the network namespace
passed to l2tp_tunnel_create. Furthermore, unmanaged tunnel sockets should
not hold a reference to the network namespace lest they accidentally keep
alive a namespace which should otherwise have been released.
Unmanaged tunnel sockets now drop their namespace reference via sk_change_net,
and are released in a new pernet exit callback, l2tp_exit_net.

l2tp_tunnel_create is passed a pointer to the network namespace for the
tunnel, along with an optional file descriptor for the tunnel which may

To allow l2tp_tunnel_delete to be called from an atomic context, place the
tunnel socket release calls on a workqueue for asynchronous execution.
Tunnel memory is eventually freed in the tunnel socket destructor.

The ipv6 route.c conflict is simple, just ignore the 'net' side change
as we fixed the same problem in 'net-next' by eliminating cached
neighbours from ipv6 routes.
The e1000e conflict is an addition of a new statistic in the ethtool
code, trivial.
The vmxnet3 conflict is about one change in 'net' removing a guarding
conditional, whilst in 'net-next' we had a netdev_info() conversion.
The iwlwifi conflict is dealing with a WARN_ON() conversion in
'net-next' vs. a revert happening in 'net'.

Since mesh_plink_quiesce() would unconditionally delete
the plink timer, and the timer initialization was recently
moved into the mesh code path, suspending with a non-mesh
interface now causes a crash. Fix this by only deleting
the plink timer for mesh interfaces.

It seems due to RCU usage, i.e. within SCTP's address binding list,
a, say, ``behavioral change'' was introduced which does actually
not conform to the RFC anymore. In particular consider the following
(fictional) scenario to demonstrate this:

The first pass of this loop passes successful, while the second round
fails during binding of S1 (address still in use). What is happening?
In the first round, the initial handshake is being done, and, at the
time close(2) is called on S1, a non-graceful shutdown is performed via
ABORT since in S1's receive queue an unprocessed packet is present,
thus stating an error condition. This can be considered as a correct
behavior.
During close also all bound addresses are freed, thus nothing *must*
be active anymore. In reference to RFC2960:
After checking the Verification Tag, the receiving endpoint shall
remove the association from its record, and shall report the
termination to its upper layer. (9.1 Abort of an Association)
Also, no half-open states are supported, thus after an ungraceful
shutdown, we leave nothing behind. However, this seems not to be
happening though. In a real-world scenario, this is exactly where
it breaks the lksctp-tools functional test suite, *for instance*:

The underlying problem is that sctp_endpoint_destroy() hasn't been
triggered yet while the next bind attempt is being done. It will be
triggered eventually (but too late) by sctp_transport_destroy_rcu()
after one RCU grace period:

Thus, we move out the condition with sctp_association_put() as well as
the sctp_packet_free() invocation and the issue can be solved. We also
better free the SCTP chunks first before putting the ref of the association.
With this patch, the example above (which simulates a similar scenario
as in the implementation of this test case) and therefore also the test
suite run successfully through. Tested by myself.

Right now,only ixgdb,macvlan,vxlan and bridge implement
fdb_add/fdb_del operations.
these operations only operate the private data of net
device. So allowing the unprivileged users who creates
the userns and netns to add/del fdb entries will do no
harm to other netns.

Add routines to
- maintain a PS mode for each peer and a non-peer PS mode
- indicate own PS mode in transmitted frames
- track neighbor STAs power modes
- buffer frames when neighbors are in PS mode
- add TIM and Awake Window IE to beacons
- release frames in Mesh Peer Service Periods
Add local_pm to sta_info to represent the link-specific power
mode at this station towards the remote station. When a peer
link is established, use the default power mode stored in mesh
config. Update the PS status if the peering status of a neighbor
changes.
Maintain a mesh power mode for non-peer mesh STAs. Set the
non-peer power mode to active mode during peering. Authenticated
mesh peering is currently not working when either node is
configured to be in power save mode.
Indicate the current power mode in transmitted frames. Use QoS
Nulls to indicate mesh power mode transitions.
For performance reasons, calls to the function setting the frame
flags are placed in HWMP routing routines, as there the STA
pointer is already available.
Add peer_pm to sta_info to represent the peer's link-specific
power mode towards the local station. Add nonpeer_pm to
represent the peer's power mode towards all non-peer stations.
Track power modes based on received frames.
Add the ps_data structure to ieee80211_if_mesh (for TIM map, PS
neighbor counter and group-addressed frame buffer).
Set WLAN_STA_PS flag for STA in PS mode to use the unicast frame
buffering routines in the tx path. Update num_sta_ps to buffer
and release group-addressed frames after DTIM beacons.
Announce the awake window duration in beacons if in light or
deep sleep mode towards any peer or non-peer. Create a TIM IE
similarly to AP mode and add it to mesh beacons. Parse received
Awake Window IEs and check TIM IEs for buffered frames.
Release frames towards peers in mesh Peer Service Periods. Use
the corresponding trigger frames and monitor the MPSP status.
Append a QoS Null as trigger frame if neccessary to properly end
the MPSP. Currently, in HT channels MPSPs behave imperfectly and
show large delay spikes and frame losses.

If the driver determined the connection was lost or that
it couldn't securely maintain the connection when coming
out of WoWLAN, send a deauth frame to the AP to also let
it know.

When we had a connection for WoWLAN and after resume it
needed to be disconnected, the previous commit enabled
sending a deauth frame to the AP. This frame would not
go through on MFP-enabled networks as the key for it is
marked tainted before the frame is transmitted.
Allow a tainted key to be used for deauth frames. Worst
case, we'll use a wrong key because the PTK was rekeyed
while suspended, but more likely the PTK is still fine
and the taint flag really only applies to the GTK(s).

When trying to find a hidden SSID, the lookup function
is done wrong; the code is trying to combine the two
lookups into one, and as a consequence doesn't always
find the entry at all. To understand this, consider a
case where multiple BSS entries with the same channel
and BSSID exist but have different SSID length. Then
comparing against the probe response SSID length is
bound to cause problems since the hidden one might be
either zeroed out or zero-length.
To fix this we need to do two lookups for the two ways
to hide SSIDs.

In per-station statistics, present 32bit counters are too small
for practical purposes - with gigabit speeds, it get overlapped
every few seconds.
Expand counters in the struct station_info to be 64-bit.
Driver can still fill only 32-bit and indicate in @filled
only bits like STATION_INFO_[TR]X_BYTES; in case driver provides
full 64-bit counter, it should also set in @filled
bit STATION_INFO_[TR]RX_BYTES64
Netlink sends both 32-bit and 64-bit counters, if present, to not
break userspace.

With multi-channel, there's a corner case where a driver
doesn't receive a beacon soon enough to be able to sync
its timers with the AP. In this case, the only recovery
(after trying again) is to disconnect from the AP. Allow
calling ieee80211_connection_loss() for such cases. To
make that possible, modify the work function to not rely
on the IEEE80211_HW_CONNECTION_MONITOR flag but use new
state kept in the interface instead.

If the driver determines the connection is lost,
send a deauth frame to the AP anyway just in case
it still considers the connection alive. The frame

When releasing a packet socket, the routine packet_set_ring() is reused
to free rings instead of allocating them. But when calling it for the
first time, it fills req->tp_block_nr with the value of rb->pg_vec_len
which in the second invocation makes it bail out since req->tp_block_nr
is greater zero but req->tp_block_size is zero.
This patch solves the problem by passing a zeroed auto-variable to
packet_set_ring() upon each invocation from packet_release().
As far as I can tell, this issue exists even since 69e3c75 (net: TX_RING
and packet mmap), i.e. the original inclusion of TX ring support into
af_packet, but applies only to sockets with both RX and TX ring
allocated, which is probably why this was unnoticed all the time.

Commit 9dc274151a (tcp: fix ABC in tcp_slow_start())
uncovered a bug in FRTO code :
tcp_process_frto() is setting snd_cwnd to 0 if the number
of in flight packets is 0.
As Neal pointed out, if no packet is in flight we lost our
chance to disambiguate whether a loss timeout was spurious.
We should assume it was a proper loss.

a nul snd_cwnd triggers an infinite loop in tcp_slow_start()
Avoid this infinite loop and log a one time error for further
analysis. FRTO code is suspected to cause this bug.

If a controller is powered on while the HCI_AUTO_OFF flag is set the
link security setting (HCI_LINK_SECURITY) might not be in sync with the
actual state of the controller (HCI_AUTH). This patch fixes the issue by
checking for inequality between the intended and actual settings and
sends a HCI_Write_Auth_Enable command if necessary.

The primary purpose of the UUIDs is to enable generation of EIR and AD
data. In these data formats the UUIDs are split into separate fields
based on whether they're 16, 32 or 128 bit UUIDs. To make the generation
of these data fields simpler this patch adds a type member to the
bt_uuid struct and assigns a value to it as soon as the UUID is added to
the kernel. This way the type doesn't need to be calculated each time
the UUID list is later iterated.

We should be encoding UUIDs to the EIR data in the same order that they
were added to the kernel, i.e. each UUID should be added to the end of
the UUIDs list. This patch fixes the issue by using list_add_tail
instead of list_add for storing the UUIDs.

The wanrouter support was identified earlier as unused for years,
and so the previous commit totally decoupled it from the kernel,
leaving the related wanrouter files present, but totally inert.
Here we take the final step in that cleanup, by doing a wholesale
removal of these files. The two step process is used so that the
large deletion is decoupled from the git history of files that we
still care about.
The drivers deleted here all were dependent on the Kconfig setting
CONFIG_WAN_ROUTER_DRIVERS.
A stub wanrouter.h header (kernel & uapi) are left behind so that
drivers/isdn/i4l/isdn_x25iface.c continues to compile, and so that
we don't accidentally break userspace that expected these defines.

The original suggestion to delete wanrouter started earlier
with the mainline commit f0d1b3c2bc
("net/wanrouter: Deprecate and schedule for removal") in May 2012.
More importantly, Dan Carpenter found[1] that the driver had a
fundamental breakage introduced back in 2008, with commit
7be6065b39 ("netdevice wanrouter: Convert directly reference of
netdev->priv"). So we know with certainty that the code hasn't been
used by anyone willing to at least take the effort to send an e-mail
report of breakage for at least 4 years.
This commit does a decouple of the wanrouter subsystem, by going
after the Makefile/Kconfig and similar files, so that these mainline
files that we are keeping do not have the big wanrouter file/driver
deletion commit tied into their history.
Once this commit is in place, we then can remove the obsolete cyclomx
drivers and similar that have a dependency on CONFIG_WAN_ROUTER_DRIVERS.

On receiving the SYN-ACK, Fast Open checks icsk_retransmit for SYN
retransmission to detect SYN/data drops. But if F-RTO is disabled,
icsk_retransmit is reset at step D of tcp_fastretrans_alert() (
under tcp_ack()) before tcp_rcv_fastopen_synack(). The fix is to use
total_retrans instead which accounts for SYN retransmission regardless
the use of F-RTO.

l2tp_ip6 is incorrectly using the IPv4-specific ip_cmsg_recv to handle
ancillary data. This means that socket options such as IPV6_RECVPKTINFO are
not honoured in userspace.
Convert l2tp_ip6 to use the IPv6-specific handler.

ancillary data. Since ip6_datagram_send_ctl is already publicly exported for

If occurs a LE or SCO hci_conn timeout and the connection is already
established (BT_CONNECTED state), the connection is not terminated as
expected. This bug can be reproduced using l2test or scotest tool.
Once the connection is established, kill l2test/scotest and the
connection won't be terminated.
This patch fixes hci_conn_disconnect helper so it is able to
terminate LE and SCO connections, as well as ACL.

The conn->smp_chan pointer can be NULL if SMP PDUs arrive at unexpected
moments. To avoid NULL pointer dereferences the code should be checking
for this and disconnect if an unexpected SMP PDU arrives. This patch
fixes the issue by adding a check for conn->smp_chan for all other PDUs
except pairing request and security request (which are are the first
PDUs to come to initialize the SMP context).

Patch vastly improve latency while scanning. Slight throughput
improvements were observed as well. Is intended for improve performance
of voice and video applications, when scan is periodically requested by
user space (i.e. default NetworkManager behaviour).
Patch remove latency requirement based on PM_QOS_NETWORK_LATENCY,
this value is 2000 seconds by default (i.e. approximately 0.5 hour !?!).
Also remove listen interval requirement, which based on beaconing and
depending on BSS parameters. It can make we stay off-channel for a
second or more.
Instead try to offer the best latency that we could, i.e. be off-channel
no longer than PASSIVE channel scan time: 125 ms. That mean we will
scan two ACTIVE channels and go back to on-channel, and one PASSIVE
channel, and go back to on-channel.
Patch also decrease PASSIVE channel scan time to about 110 ms.
As drawback patch increase overall scan time. On my tests, when scanning
both 2GHz and 5GHz bands, scanning time increase from 5 seconds up to 10
seconds. Since that increase happen only when we are associated, I think
it can be acceptable. If eventually better scan time is needed for
situations when we lose signal and quickly need to decide to which AP
roam, additional scan flag or parameter can be introduced.
I tested patch by doing:

When sending authentication/association frames they
might take a bit of time to go out because we may
have to synchronise with the AP, in particular in
the case where it's really a P2P GO. In this case
the 200ms fixed timeout could potentially be too
short if the beacon interval is relatively large.
For drivers that report TX status we can do better.
Instead of starting the timeout directly, start it
only when the frame status arrives. Since then the
frame was out on the air, we can wait shorter (the
typical response time is supposed to be 30ms, wait
100ms.) Also, if the frame failed to be transmitted
try again right away instead of waiting.

Currently, when the driver requires the DTIM period,
mac80211 will wait to hear a beacon before association.
This behavior is suboptimal since some drivers may be
able to deal with knowing the DTIM period after the
association, if they get it at all.
To address this, notify the drivers with bss_info_changed
with the new BSS_CHANGED_DTIM_PERIOD flag when the DTIM
becomes known. This might be when changing to associated,
or later when the entire association was done with only
probe response information.
Rename the hardware flag for the current behaviour to
IEEE80211_HW_NEED_DTIM_BEFORE_ASSOC to more accurately
reflect its behaviour. IEEE80211_HW_NEED_DTIM_PERIOD is
no longer accurate as all drivers get the DTIM period
now, just not before association.

They will be created at output, if ever needed. This avoids creating
empty neighbor entries when TPROXYing/Forwarding packets for addresses
that are not even directly reachable.
Note that IPv4 already handles it this way. No neighbor entries are
created for local input.

This fixes a livelock in the xprt->sending queue where we end up never
making progress on lower priority tasks because sleep_on_priority()
keeps adding new tasks with the same owner to the head of the queue,
and priority bumps mean that we keep resetting the queue->owner to
whatever task is at the head of the queue.
Regression introduced by commit c05eecf636
(SUNRPC: Don't allow low priority tasks to pre-empt higher priority ones).

Instead of jumping aroung bugs that are easily fixed just don't let them in:
affected drivers should be either fixed or have NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_FILTER
removed from advertised features.
Quick grep in drivers/net shows two drivers that have NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_FILTER
but not ndo_vlan_rx_add/kill_vid(), but those are false-positives (features
are commented out).
OTOH two drivers have ndo_vlan_rx_add/kill_vid() implemented but don't
advertise NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_FILTER. Those are:

We drop a connection request if the accept backlog is full and there are
sufficient packets in the syn queue to warrant starting drops. Increment the
appropriate counters so this isn't silent, for accurate stats and help in
debugging.
This patch assumes LINUX_MIB_LISTENDROPS is a superset of/includes the
counter LINUX_MIB_LISTENOVERFLOWS.

The return value of pktgen_add_device() is not checked, so
even if we fail to add some device, for example, non-exist one,
we still see "OK:...". This patch fixes it.

The delay calculation with the rate extension introduces in v3.3 does
not properly work, if other packets are still queued for transmission.
For the delay calculation to work, both delay types (latency and delay
introduces by rate limitation) have to be handled differently. The
latency delay for a packet can overlap with the delay of other packets.
The delay introduced by the rate however is separate, and can only
start, once all other rate-introduced delays finished.
Latency delay is from same distribution for each packet, rate delay
depends on the packet size.

When a packet is enqueued, we first consider the latency delay. If other
packets are already queued, we can reduce the latency delay until the
last packet in the queue is send, however the latency delay cannot be
<0, since this would mean that the rate is overcommitted. The new
reference point is the time at which the last packet will be send. To
find the time, when the packet should be send, the rate introduces delay
has to be added on top of that.

If a tunnel socket is created by userspace, l2tp hooks the socket destructor
in order to clean up resources if userspace closes the socket or crashes. It
also caches a pointer to the struct sock for use in the data path and in the
netlink interface.
While it is safe to use the cached sock pointer in the data path, where the
skb references keep the socket alive, it is not safe to use it elsewhere as
such access introduces a race with userspace closing the socket. In
particular, l2tp_tunnel_delete is prone to oopsing if a multithreaded
userspace application closes a socket at the same time as sending a netlink
delete command for the tunnel.
This patch fixes this oops by forcing l2tp_tunnel_delete to explicitly look up
a tunnel socket held by userspace using sockfd_lookup().

This patch adds anti-spoofing checks in sit.c as specified in RFC3964
section 5.2 for 6to4 and RFC5969 section 12 for 6rd. I left out the
checks which could easily be implemented with netfilter.
Specifically this patch adds following logic (based loosely on the
pseudocode in RFC3964 section 5.2):

The standard mandates mesh STAs to set the ERP Short Slot
Time capability info bit in beacons to 0. Even though this
is their way of disallowing short slot time for mesh STAs,
there should be no harm in enabling it if we determine all
STAs in the current MBSS support ERP rates.
Increases throughput about 20% for legacy rates when
enabled.

A GRE tunnel can be configured so that outgoing tunnel packets inherit
the value of the TOS field from the inner IP header. In doing so, when
a non-IP packet is transmitted through the tunnel, the TOS field will
always be set to 0.
Instead, the user should be able to configure a different TOS value as
the fallback to use for non-IP packets. This is helpful when the non-IP
packets are all control packets and should be handled by routers outside
the tunnel as having Internet Control precedence. One example of this is
the NHRP packets that control a DMVPN-compatible mGRE tunnel; they are
encapsulated directly by GRE and do not contain an inner IP header.
Under the existing behavior, the IFLA_GRE_TOS parameter must be set to
'1' for the TOS value to be inherited. Now, only the least significant
bit of this parameter must be set to '1', and when a non-IP packet is
sent through the tunnel, the upper 6 bits of this same parameter will be
copied into the TOS field. (The ECN bits get masked off as before.)
This behavior is backwards-compatible with existing configurations and
iproute2 versions.

There are some usecase when lifetime of ipv4 addresses might be helpful.
For example:
1) initramfs networkmanager uses a DHCP daemon to learn network
configuration parameters
2) initramfs networkmanager addresses, routes and DNS configuration
3) initramfs networkmanager is requested to stop
4) initramfs networkmanager stops all daemons including dhclient
5) there are addresses and routes configured but no daemon running. If
the system doesn't start networkmanager for some reason, addresses and
routes will be used forever, which violates RFC 2131.
This patch is essentially a backport of ivp6 address lifetime mechanism
for ipv4 addresses.
Current "ip" tool supports this without any patch (since it does not
distinguish between ipv4 and ipv6 addresses in this perspective.
Also, this should be back-compatible with all current netlink users.

Replace the per network namespace shared atomic "mem" accounting
variable, in the fragmentation code, with a lib/percpu_counter.
Getting percpu_counter to scale to the fragmentation code usage
requires some tweaks.
At first view, percpu_counter looks superfast, but it does not
scale on multi-CPU/NUMA machines, because the default batch size
is too small, for frag code usage. Thus, I have adjusted the
batch size by using __percpu_counter_add() directly, instead of
percpu_counter_sub() and percpu_counter_add().
The batch size is increased to 130.000, based on the largest 64K
fragment memory usage. This does introduce some imprecise
memory accounting, but its does not need to be strict for this
use-case.
It is also essential, that the percpu_counter, does not
share cacheline with other writers, to make this scale.

This change is primarily a preparation to ease the extension of memory
limit tracking.
The change does reduce the number atomic operation, during freeing of
a frag queue. This does introduce a some performance improvement, as
these atomic operations are at the core of the performance problems
seen on NUMA systems.

found the cause yet. It's a valid warning since if it

When allocating memory for neighbour cache entry, if
tbl->entry_size is not set, we always calculate
sizeof(struct neighbour) + tbl->key_len, which is common
in the same table.
With this change, set tbl->entry_size during the table
initialization phase, if it was not set, and use it in
neigh_alloc() and neighbour_priv().
This change also allow us to have both of protocol private
data and device priate data at tha same time.
Note that the only user of prototcol private is DECnet
and the only user of device private is ATM CLIP.
Since those are exclusive, we have not been facing issues
here.

I found if we write a larger than 4GB value to some sysctl
variables, the sending syscall will hang up forever, because these
variables are 32 bits, such large values make them overflow to 0 or
negative.
This patch try to fix overflow or prevent from zero value setup
of below sysctl variables:
net.core.wmem_default
net.core.rmem_default
net.core.rmem_max
net.core.wmem_max
net.ipv4.udp_rmem_min

Pravin Shelar mentioned that GSO could potentially generate
wrong TX checksum if skb has fragments that are overwritten
by the user between the checksum computation and transmit.
He suggested to linearize skbs but this extra copy can be
avoided for normal tcp skbs cooked by tcp_sendmsg().
This patch introduces a new SKB_GSO_SHARED_FRAG flag, set
in skb_shinfo(skb)->gso_type if at least one frag can be
modified by the user.
Typical sources of such possible overwrites are {vm}splice(),
sendfile(), and macvtap/tun/virtio_net drivers.

Due to IP_GRE GSO support, GRE can recieve non linear skb which
results in panic in case of GRE_CSUM. Following patch fixes it by
using correct csum API.

The comments here say that the /* Max event is 61 char */ but in 2003 we
changed the event format and now the max event size is 75. The longest
event is:

There was a check to return -EOVERFLOW if the user gave us a "count"
value that was less than 64. Raising it to 75 might break backwards
compatability. Instead I removed the check and now it returns a
truncated string if "count" is too low.

If state != IP_VS_STATE_BACKUP then tinfo->buf is uninitialized. If

While sctp handling a duplicate COOKIE-ECHO and the action is
'Association restart', sctp_sf_do_dupcook_a() will processing
the unexpected COOKIE-ECHO for peer restart, but it does not set
the association state to SCTP_STATE_ESTABLISHED, so the association
could stuck in SCTP_STATE_SHUTDOWN_PENDING state forever.
This violates the sctp specification:
RFC 4960 5.2.4. Handle a COOKIE ECHO when a TCB Exists
Action
A) In this case, the peer may have restarted. .....
After this, the endpoint shall enter the ESTABLISHED state.
To resolve this problem, adding a SCTP_CMD_NEW_STATE cmd to the
command list before SCTP_CMD_REPLY cmd, this will set the restart
association to SCTP_STATE_ESTABLISHED state properly and also avoid
I-bit being set in the DATA chunk header when COOKIE_ACK is bundled
with DATA chunks.

We did this for IPv4 in b49d3c1e1c "net: ipmr: limit MRT_TABLE
identifiers" but we need to do it for IPv6 as well. On IPv6 the name
is "pim6reg" instead of "pimreg" so there is one less digit allowed.
The strcpy() is in ip6mr_reg_vif().

We never want multicast MAC addresses in the Distributed ARP Table, so it's
best to completely ignore ARP packets containing them where we expect unicast
addresses.

There are more types of IP addresses that may appear in ARP packets that we
don't want to process. While some of these should never appear in sane ARP
packets, a 0.0.0.0 source is used for duplicate address detection and thus seen
quite often.

Fix a reported compilation error where ia variable of type kuid_t
was being set to zero.
Eliminate two instances of setting tb->fastuid to zero. tb->fastuid is
only used if tb->fastreuseport is set, so there should be no problem if
tb->fastuid is not initialized (when tb->fastreuesport is zero).

To prevent a possible misconfiguration (e.g. circular CAN frame routings)
limit the number of routings of a single CAN frame to a small variable value.
The limit can be specified by the module parameter 'max_hops' (1..6).
The default value is 1 (one hop), according to the original can-gw behaviour.

The struct can_skb_priv is used to transport additional information along
with the stored struct can(fd)_frame that can not be contained in existing
struct sk_buff elements.
can_skb_priv is located in the skb headroom, which does not touch the existing
CAN sk_buff usage with skb->data and skb->len, so that even out-of-tree
CAN drivers can be used without changes.
Btw. out-of-tree CAN drivers without can_skb_priv in the sk_buff headroom
would not support features based on can_skb_priv.
The can_skb_priv->ifindex contains the first interface where the CAN frame
appeared on the local host. Unfortunately skb->skb_iif can not be used as this
value is overwritten in every netif_receive_skb() call.

The variable "str" is used as both the source and destination in
function snprintf(), which is undefined behavior based on C11. The
original description in C11 is:
"If copying takes place between objects that
overlap, the behavior is undefined."
And, the function of ceph_osdmap_state_str() is to return the osdmap
state, so it should return "doesn't exist" when all the conditions
are not satisfied. I fix it in this patch.

Add API to enable drivers to implement MAC address based
access control in AP/P2P GO mode. Capable drivers advertise
this capability by setting the maximum number of MAC
addresses in such a list in wiphy->max_acl_mac_addrs.
An initial ACL may be given to the NL80211_CMD_START_AP
command and/or changed later with NL80211_CMD_SET_MAC_ACL.
Black- and whitelists are supported, but not simultaneously.

gcc cannot prove that the value of sdata->vif.type does not
change between the switch() statement and the second
comparison to NL80211_IFTYPE_AP, causing a harmless
warning.
Slightly reordering the code makes the warning go away
with no functional change.
Without this patch, building ARM at91sam9g45_defconfig with
gcc-4.6 results in:

This refactoring fixes a "scheduling while atomic" warning
when allocating a mesh station entry while holding the RCU
read lock. Fix this by creating a new function
mesh_sta_info_get(), which correctly handles the locking
and returns under RCU.
Also move some unnecessarily #ifdefed mesh station init
code from sta_info_alloc() to __mesh_sta_info_alloc().

For drivers that don't actually flush their queues when
aggregation stop with the IEEE80211_AMPDU_TX_STOP_FLUSH
or IEEE80211_AMPDU_TX_STOP_FLUSH_CONT reasons is done,
like iwlwifi or iwlegacy, mac80211 can then transmit on
a TID that the driver still considers busy. This happens
in the following way:
- IEEE80211_AMPDU_TX_STOP_FLUSH requested
- driver marks TID as emptying
- mac80211 removes tid_tx data, this can copy packets
to the TX pending queues and also let new packets
through to the driver
- driver gets unexpected TX as it wasn't completely
converted to the new API
In iwlwifi, this lead to the following warning:

Fortunately, solving this problem is easy as the station
is being destroyed, so such transmit packets can only
happen due to races. Instead of trying to close the race
just let the race not reach the drivers by making two
changes:
1) remove the explicit aggregation session teardown in
the managed mode code, the same thing will be done
when the station is removed, in __sta_info_destroy.
2) When aggregation stop with AGG_STOP_DESTROY_STA is
requested, leave the tid_tx data around as stopped.
It will be cleared and freed in cleanup_single_sta
later, but until then any racy packets will be put
onto the tid_tx pending queue instead of transmitted
which is fine since the station is being removed.

There is a race in enqueueing thread to a pool and
waking up a thread.
lockd doesn't wake up on reception of lock granted callback
if svc_wake_up() is called before lockd's thread is added
to a pool.

Motivation for soreuseport would be something like a DNS server. An
alternative would be to recv on the same socket from multiple threads.
As in the case of TCP, the load across these threads tends to be
disproportionate and we also see a lot of contection on the socket lock.
Note that SO_REUSEADDR already allows multiple UDP sockets to bind to
the same port, however there is no provision to prevent hijacking and
nothing to distribute packets across all the sockets sharing the same
bound port. This patch does not change the semantics of SO_REUSEADDR,
but provides usable functionality of it for unicast.

Motivation for soreuseport would be something like a web server
binding to port 80 running with multiple threads, where each thread
might have it's own listener socket. This could be done as an
alternative to other models: 1) have one listener thread which
dispatches completed connections to workers. 2) accept on a single
listener socket from multiple threads. In case #1 the listener thread
can easily become the bottleneck with high connection turn-over rate.
In case #2, the proportion of connections accepted per thread tends
to be uneven under high connection load (assuming simple event loop:
while (1) { accept(); process() }, wakeup does not promote fairness
among the sockets. We have seen the disproportion to be as high
as 3:1 ratio between thread accepting most connections and the one
accepting the fewest. With so_reusport the distribution is
uniform.

alternative would be to recv on the same socket from multiple threads.
As in the case of TCP, the load across these threads tends to be
disproportionate and we also see a lot of contection on the socketlock.
Note that SO_REUSEADDR already allows multiple UDP sockets to bind to
the same port, however there is no provision to prevent hijacking and
nothing to distribute packets across all the sockets sharing the same
bound port. This patch does not change the semantics of SO_REUSEADDR,
but provides usable functionality of it for unicast.

Allow multiple listener sockets to bind to the same port.
Motivation for soresuseport would be something like a web server
binding to port 80 running with multiple threads, where each thread
might have it's own listener socket. This could be done as an
alternative to other models: 1) have one listener thread which
dispatches completed connections to workers. 2) accept on a single
listener socket from multiple threads. In case #1 the listener thread
can easily become the bottleneck with high connection turn-over rate.
In case #2, the proportion of connections accepted per thread tends
to be uneven under high connection load (assuming simple event loop:
while (1) { accept(); process() }, wakeup does not promote fairness
among the sockets. We have seen the disproportion to be as high
as 3:1 ratio between thread accepting most connections and the one
accepting the fewest. With so_reusport the distribution is
uniform.

nf_conntrack initialization and cleanup codes happens in pernet
operations function. This task should be done in module_init/exit.
We can't use init_net to identify if it's the right time to initialize
or cleanup since we cannot make assumption on the order netns are
created/destroyed.

When a HCI device is powered off the Management interface specification
dictates that the class of device value is indicated as zero. This patch
fixes sending of the appropriate class of device changed event when a
HCI device is powered off.

Since we have removed NCE (Neighbour Cache Entry) reference from
routing entries, the only refcnt holders of an NCE are its timer
(if running) and its owner table, in usual cases. As a result,
neigh_periodic_work() purges NCEs over and over again even for
gateways.
It does not make sense to purge entries, if number of them is
very small, so keep them. The minimum number of entries to keep
is specified by gc_thresh1.

git commit 9cb3a50c (ipv4: Invalidate the socket cached route on
pmtu events if possible) introduced a refcount problem. We don't
get a refcount on the route if we get it from__sk_dst_get(), but
we need one if we want to reuse this route because __sk_dst_set()
releases the refcount of the old route. This patch adds proper
refcount handling for that case. We introduce a 'new' flag to
indicate that we are going to use a new route and we release the
old route only if we replace it by a new one.

as well. This patch is based on the net_prio fix commit
48a87cc26c
net: netprio: fd passed in SCM_RIGHTS datagram not set correctly
A socket fd passed in a SCM_RIGHTS datagram was not getting
updated with the new tasks cgrp prioidx. This leaves IO on
the socket tagged with the old tasks priority.
To fix this add a check in the scm recvmsg path to update the
sock cgrp prioidx with the new tasks value.
Let's apply the same fix for net_cls.

The check for LRO packets was incorrectly put in the transmit path
instead of on receive. Since this check is supposed to protect OVS
(and other parts of the system) from packets that it cannot handle
it is obviously not useful on egress. Therefore, this commit moves
it back to the receive side.
The primary problem that this caused is upcalls to userspace tried
to segment the packet even though no segmentation information is
available. This would later cause NULL pointer dereferences when
skb_gso_segment() did nothing.

The slave MII bus registered by the DSA code is using the parent MII bus
as part of its name (ds->master_mii_bus_id), in case the parent MII bus
name is already 16 characters long (such as d0072004.mdio-mi) we will

The route lookup in ipv4_sk_update_pmtu() might return a route
different from the route we cached at the socket. This is because
standart routes are per cpu, so each cpu has it's own struct rtable.
This means that we do not invalidate the socket cached route if the
NET_RX_SOFTIRQ is not served by the same cpu that the sending socket
uses. As a result, the cached route reused until we disconnect.
With this patch we invalidate the socket cached route if possible.
If the socket is owened by the user, we can't update the cached
route directly. A followup patch will implement socket release
callback functions for datagram sockets to handle this case.

When we set mac address, software mac address in system and hardware mac
address all need to be updated. Current eth_mac_addr() doesn't allow
callers to implement error handling nicely.
This patch split eth_mac_addr() to prepare part and real commit part,
then we can prepare first, and try to change hardware address, then do
the real commit if hardware address is set successfully.

This patch add the support of proxy multicast, ie being able to build a static
multicast tree. It adds the support of (*,*) and (*,G) entries.
The user should define an (*,*) entry which is not used for real forwarding.
This entry defines the upstream in iif and contains all interfaces from the
static tree in its oifs. It will be used to forward packet upstream when they
come from an interface belonging to the static tree.
Hence, the user should define (*,G) entries to build its static tree. Note that
upstream interface must be part of oifs: packets are sent to all oifs
interfaces except the input interface. This ensures to always join the whole
static tree, even if the packet is not coming from the upstream interface.

On IPsec pmtu events we can't access the transport headers of
the original packet, so we can't find the socket that sent
the packet. The only chance to notify the socket about the
pmtu change is to force a relookup for all routes. This
patch implenents this for the IPsec protocols.

Support arbitrary linux socket filter (BPF) programs as x_tables
match rules. This allows for very expressive filters, and on
platforms with BPF JIT appears competitive with traditional
hardcoded iptables rules using the u32 match.
The size of the filter has been artificially limited to 64
instructions maximum to avoid bloating the size of each rule
using this new match.

Missing multiplication of block size by sizeof(struct hlist_head)
can cause xfrm_hash_free() to be called with wrong second argument
so that kfree() is called on a block allocated with vzalloc() or
__get_free_pages() or free_pages() is called with wrong order when
a namespace with enough policies is removed.
Bug introduced by commit a35f6c5d, i.e. versions >= 2.6.29 are
affected.

splice() can handle pages of any order, but network code tries hard to
split them in PAGE_SIZE units. Not quite successfully anyway, as
__splice_segment() assumed poff < PAGE_SIZE. This is true for
the skb->data part, not necessarily for the fragments.
This patch removes this logic to give the pages as they are in the skb.

When processing the unregister notify for a hard interface, removing
the sysfs files may lead to a circular deadlock (rtnl mutex <->
s_active).
To overcome this problem, postpone the sysfs removal in a worker.

The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This
saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway.

The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on
TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY
layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate
symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than
"depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies.

To be able to implement NS response offloading (in
regular operation or while in WoWLAN) drivers need
to know the IPv6 addresses assigned to interfaces.
Implement an IPv6 notifier in mac80211 to call the
driver when addresses change.
Unlike for IPv4, implement it as a callback rather
than as a list in the BSS configuration, that is
more flexible.

A lot of the aggregation messages don't indicate the
station so they're hard to understand if there are
multiple sessions in progress. Make that easier by
adding the MAC address to most messages. Also add
the TID if it wasn't already there.

Depending on the driver, having ARP filtering for
some addresses may be possible. Remove the logic
that tracks whether ARP filter is enabled or not
and give the driver the total number of addresses
instead of the length of the list so it can make
its own decision.

There are hardwares which support offload of data packets
for example when auto ARP is enabled the hw will send
the ARP response. In such cases if WEP encryption is
configured the hw must know the default WEP key in order
to encrypt the packets correctly.
When hw_accel is enabled and encryption type is set to WEP,
the driver should get the default key index from mac80211.

All of the xfrm_replay->advance functions in xfrm_replay.c check if
x->replay_esn->replay_window is zero (and return if so). However,
one of them, xfrm_replay_advance_bmp(), divides by that value (in the
'%' operator) before doing the check, which can potentially trigger
a divide-by-zero exception. Some compilers will also assume that the
earlier division means the value cannot be zero later, and thus will
eliminate the subsequent zero check as dead code.
This patch moves the division to after the check.

There's a per-HCI device workqueue (hdev->workqueue) that should be used
for general per-HCI device work (except hdev->req_workqueue that's for
hci_request() related work). This patch fixes places using the
system-global work queue and makes them use the hdev->workqueue instead.

The hci_request function is blocking and cannot be called through the
usual per-HCI device workqueue (hdev->workqueue). While hci_request is
in progress any other work from the queue, including sending HCI
commands to the controller would be blocked and eventually cause the
hci_request call to time out.
This patch adds a second workqueue to be used by operations needing
hci_request and thereby avoiding issues with blocking other workqueue
users.

Jamie Parsons reported a problem recently, in which the re-initalization of an
association (The duplicate init case), resulted in a loss of receive window
space. He tracked down the root cause to sctp_outq_teardown, which discarded
all the data on an outq during a re-initalization of the corresponding
association, but never reset the outq->outstanding_data field to zero. I wrote,
and he tested this fix, which does a proper full re-initalization of the outq,
fixing this problem, and hopefully future proofing us from simmilar issues down
the road.

Add the ability to set/clear labels assigned to a conntrack
via ctnetlink.
To allow userspace to only alter specific bits, Pablo suggested to add
a new CTA_LABELS_MASK attribute:
The new set of active labels is then determined via
active = (active & ~mask) ^ changeset
i.e., the mask selects those bits in the existing set that should be
changed.
This follows the same method already used by MARK and CONNMARK targets.
Omitting CTA_LABELS_MASK is the same as setting all bits in CTA_LABELS_MASK
to 1: The existing set is replaced by the one from userspace.

similar to connmarks, except labels are bit-based; i.e.
all labels may be attached to a flow at the same time.
Up to 128 labels are supported. Supporting more labels
is possible, but requires increasing the ct offset delta
from u8 to u16 type due to increased extension sizes.
Mapping of bit-identifier to label name is done in userspace.
The extension is enabled at run-time once "-m connlabel" netfilter
rules are added.

Both ceph_osdc_alloc_request() and ceph_osdc_build_request() are
provided an array of ceph osd request operations. Rather than just
passing the number of operations in the array, the caller is
required append an additional zeroed operation structure to signal
the end of the array.
All callers know the number of operations at the time these
functions are called, so drop the silly zero entry and supply that
number directly. As a result, get_num_ops() is no longer needed.
This also means that ceph_osdc_alloc_request() never uses its ops
argument, so that can be dropped.
Also rbd_create_rw_ops() no longer needs to add one to reserve room
for the additional op.

page or bio data for its payload. And essentially all that function
was doing with those arguments was assigning them to fields in the
osd request structure.

The only thing ceph_osdc_alloc_request() really does with the
flags value it is passed is assign it to the newly-created
osd request structure. Do that in the caller instead.
Both callers subsequently call ceph_osdc_build_request(), so have
that function (instead of ceph_osdc_alloc_request()) issue a warning
if a request comes through with neither the read nor write flags set.

A snapshot id must be provided to ceph_calc_raw_layout() even though
it is not needed at all for calculating the layout.
Where the snapshot id *is* needed is when building the request
message for an osd operation.
Drop the snapid parameter from ceph_calc_raw_layout() and pass
that value instead in ceph_osdc_build_request().

ceph_calc_file_object_mapping() takes (among other things) a "file"
offset and length, and based on the layout, determines the object
number ("bno") backing the affected portion of the file's data and
the offset into that object where the desired range begins. It also
computes the size that should be used for the request--either the
amount requested or something less if that would exceed the end of
the object.
This patch changes the input length parameter in this function so it
is used only for input. That is, the argument will be passed by
value rather than by address, so the value provided won't get
updated by the function.
The value would only get updated if the length would surpass the
current object, and in that case the value it got updated to would
be exactly that returned in *oxlen.
Only one of the two callers is affected by this change. Update
ceph_calc_raw_layout() so it records any updated value.

Since every osd message is now prepared to include trailing data,
there's no need to check ahead of time whether any operations will
make use of the trail portion of the message.
We can drop the second argument to get_num_ops(), and as a result we
can also get rid of op_needs_trail() which is no longer used.

An osd request structure contains an optional trail portion, which
if present will contain data to be passed in the payload portion of
the message containing the request. The trail field is a
ceph_pagelist pointer, and if null it indicates there is no trail.
A ceph_pagelist structure contains a length field, and it can
legitimately hold value 0. Make use of this to change the
interpretation of the "trail" of an osd request so that every osd
request has trailing data, it just might have length 0.
This means we change the r_trail field in a ceph_osd_request
structure from a pointer to a structure that is always initialized.
Note that in ceph_osdc_start_request(), the trail pointer (or now
address of that structure) is assigned to a ceph message's trail
field. Here's why that's still OK (looking at net/ceph/messenger.c):
- What would have resulted in a null pointer previously will now
refer to a 0-length page list. That message trail pointer
is used in two functions, write_partial_msg_pages() and
out_msg_pos_next().
- In write_partial_msg_pages(), a null page list pointer is
handled the same as a message with 0-length trail, and both
result in a "in_trail" variable set to false. The trail
pointer is only used if in_trail is true.
- The only other place the message trail pointer is used is
out_msg_pos_next(). That function is only called by
write_partial_msg_pages() and only touches the trail pointer
if the in_trail value it is passed is true.
Therefore a null ceph_msg->trail pointer is equivalent to a non-null
pointer referring to a 0-length page list structure.

Most SIP devices use a source port of 5060/udp on SIP requests, so the
response automatically comes back to port 5060:
phone_ip:5060 -> proxy_ip:5060 REGISTER
proxy_ip:5060 -> phone_ip:5060 100 Trying
The newer Cisco IP phones, however, use a randomly chosen high source
port for the SIP request but expect the response on port 5060:
phone_ip:49173 -> proxy_ip:5060 REGISTER
proxy_ip:5060 -> phone_ip:5060 100 Trying
Standard Linux NAT, with or without nf_nat_sip, will send the reply back
to port 49173, not 5060:
phone_ip:49173 -> proxy_ip:5060 REGISTER
proxy_ip:5060 -> phone_ip:49173 100 Trying
But the phone is not listening on 49173, so it will never see the reply.
This patch modifies nf_*_sip to work around this quirk by extracting
the SIP response port from the Via: header, iff the source IP in the
packet header matches the source IP in the SIP request.

Increase the amount of memory usage limits for incomplete
IP fragments.
Arguing for new thresh high/low values:
High threshold = 4 MBytes
Low threshold = 3 MBytes
The fragmentation memory accounting code, tries to account for the
real memory usage, by measuring both the size of frag queue struct
(inet_frag_queue (ipv4:ipq/ipv6:frag_queue)) and the SKB's truesize.
We want to be able to handle/hold-on-to enough fragments, to ensure
good performance, without causing incomplete fragments to hurt
scalability, by causing the number of inet_frag_queue to grow too much
(resulting longer searches for frag queues).
For IPv4, how much memory does the largest frag consume.
Maximum size fragment is 64K, which is approx 44 fragments with
MTU(1500) sized packets. Sizeof(struct ipq) is 200. A 1500 byte
packet results in a truesize of 2944 (not 2048 as I first assumed)
(44*2944)+200 = 129736 bytes
The current default high thresh of 262144 bytes, is obviously
problematic, as only two 64K fragments can fit in the queue at the
same time.
How many 64K fragment can we fit into 4 MBytes:
4*2^20/((44*2944)+200) = 32.34 fragment in queues
An attacker could send a separate/distinct fake fragment packets per
queue, causing us to allocate one inet_frag_queue per packet, and thus
attacking the hash table and its lists.
How many frag queue do we need to store, and given a current hash size
of 64, what is the average list length.
Using one MTU sized fragment per inet_frag_queue, each consuming
(2944+200) 3144 bytes.
4*2^20/(2944+200) = 1334 frag queues -> 21 avg list length
An attack could send small fragments, the smallest packet I could send
resulted in a truesize of 896 bytes (I'm a little surprised by this).
4*2^20/(896+200) = 3827 frag queues -> 59 avg list length
When increasing these number, we also need to followup with
improvements, that is going to help scalability. Simply increasing
the hash size, is not enough as the current implementation does not
have a per hash bucket locking.

Add libceph support for a new CRUSH tunable recently added to Ceph servers.
Consider the CRUSH rule
step chooseleaf firstn 0 type <node_type>
This rule means that <n> replicas will be chosen in a manner such that
each chosen leaf's branch will contain a unique instance of <node_type>.
When an object is re-replicated after a leaf failure, if the CRUSH map uses
a chooseleaf rule the remapped replica ends up under the <node_type> bucket
that held the failed leaf. This causes uneven data distribution across the
storage cluster, to the point that when all the leaves but one fail under a
particular <node_type> bucket, that remaining leaf holds all the data from
its failed peers.
This behavior also limits the number of peers that can participate in the
re-replication of the data held by the failed leaf, which increases the
time required to re-replicate after a failure.
For a chooseleaf CRUSH rule, the tree descent has two steps: call them the
inner and outer descents.
If the tree descent down to <node_type> is the outer descent, and the descent
from <node_type> down to a leaf is the inner descent, the issue is that a
down leaf is detected on the inner descent, so only the inner descent is
retried.
In order to disperse re-replicated data as widely as possible across a
storage cluster after a failure, we want to retry the outer descent. So,
fix up crush_choose() to allow the inner descent to return immediately on
choosing a failed leaf. Wire this up as a new CRUSH tunable.
Note that after this change, for a chooseleaf rule, if the primary OSD
in a placement group has failed, choosing a replacement may result in
one of the other OSDs in the PG colliding with the new primary. This
requires that OSD's data for that PG to need moving as well. This
seems unavoidable but should be relatively rare.
