Impact: fix hung bootup and other misbehavior on certain laptops
On some more HP laptops BIOS reports an IRQ0 override
but the SB600 chipset is configured such that timer
interrupts go to INT0 of IOAPIC.
Check IRQ0 routing and if it is routed to INT0 of IOAPIC skip the
timer override.

- Remove virtual base addresses for devices that we should be passing
physical addresses to drivers via resources and ioremap()ing.
- don't try to use uarts for ll debug once the mmu is enabled due to
problems with the peripheral window
- make base addresses void __iomem * and fixup irq.c and timer.c
- Remove common.c and bring in devices.c/devices.h similar to
the PXA architecture.

The proc_comm protocol is the lowest level protocol available for
communicating with the modem core. It provides access to clock and
power control, among other things, and is safe for use from atomic
contexts, unlike the higher level SMD and RPC transports.

The MSM architecture covers a wider family of chips than just the MSM7X00A.
Move to a more generic name, in perparation for supporting the specific
SoC variants as sub-architectures (ARCH_MSM7X01A, ARCH_MSM722X, etc). This
gives us ARCH_MSM for the (many) common peripherals.
This also removes the unused/obsolete config item MSM7X00A_IDLE.

This patch improves the support for gpio pins that are hard wired
to either input or output and lack control register association.
A special force enum id is used to allow use without control
register but still mark the gpio pin as input or output.

This adds relocatable kernel support for kdump. With this one can
use the same regular kernel to capture the kdump. A signature (0xfeed1234)
is passed in r6 from panic code to the next kernel through kexec_sequence
and purgatory code. The signature is used to differentiate between
kdump kernel and non-kdump kernels.
The purgatory code compares the signature and sets the __kdump_flag in
head_64.S. During the boot up, kernel code checks __kdump_flag and if it
is set, the kernel will behave as relocatable kdump kernel. This kernel
will boot at the address where it was loaded by kexec-tools ie. at the
address reserved through crashkernel boot parameter.
CONFIG_CRASH_DUMP depends on CONFIG_RELOCATABLE option to build kdump
kernel as relocatable. So the same kernel can be used as production and
kdump kernel.
This patch incorporates the changes suggested by Paul Mackerras to avoid
GOT use and to avoid two copies of the code.

The Intel 7300 Memory Controller supports dynamic throttling of memory which can
be used to save power when system is idle. This driver does the memory
throttling when all CPUs are idle on such a system.

Most of the platforms were printing the size of the memory
in their show_cpuinfo implementations. This moves that to
the common show_cpuinfo, so that all 32-bit platforms will
now print the size of memory. I also update the code
to deal with the fact that total_memory is now a phys_addr_t.

To keep the size of changesets sane we split the switch by drivers;
to keep the damn thing bisectable we do the following:
1) rename the affected methods, add ones with correct
prototypes, make (few) callers handle both. That's this changeset.
2) for each driver convert to new methods. *ALL* drivers
are converted in this series.
3) kill the old (renamed) methods.
Note that it _is_ a flagday; all in-tree drivers are converted and by the
end of this series no trace of old methods remain. The only reason why
we do that this way is to keep the damn thing bisectable and allow per-driver
debugging if anything goes wrong.

Commit 3f5a54e371 ("ftrace: dump out ftrace
buffers to console on panic") added an ftrace buffer dumper that hooks
in to the die notifier chain and dumps out data in the oops path.
Unfortunately SH supported ftrace but didn't support DIE_OOPS, so add
that in and get it building again.

is connected to the IPIC's EXT2 interrupt line, the line is shared with
Vitesse 8201 Ethernet PHY.

provide soft power-off function, but also exports two GPIOs (wired to
the LEDs and also available from the external headers).

Commit 9b09c6d909 ("powerpc: Change the
default link address for pSeries zImage kernels") changed the
real-base value in the CHRP note added by addnote to the zImage from
12MB to 32MB. It turns out that this causes unnecessary extra reboots
on old 32-bit CHRP machines. This therefore adds a -r flag to addnote
to allow us to specify what real-base value it should put in the CHRP
note, and adjusts the wrapper script to pass -r c00000 to addnote when
making a zImage for a CHRP machine. Also, CHRP machines ignore the
RPA note, so we don't need to arrange for it to be the same as the
kernel's.

numa_enforce_memory_limit tried to be smart and only call lmb_end_of_DRAM
when a memory limit was set via mem= on the command line. However,
the early boot code will also limit memory added to the lmb system
when iommu=off is specified. When this happens, the page allocator
is given pages not in the linear mapping and this results in a fatal
data reference to the unmapped page.

We used to assume that even numbered threads were the primary
threads, ie those that would be listed and started as a cpu from
open firmware. Replace a left over is even (% 2) check with a check
for it being a primary thread and update the comments.
Tested with a debug print on pseries, identical code found for cell.

64 bit powerpc requires the kexec user space tools avoid overwriting
the static kernel image and translation hash table when choosing
where to put memory image data because it copies the data into place
using the kernels virtual memory system. Kexec userspace determines
these and other areas blocked by reading properties the kernel adds,
but does not filter these properties when creating the device tree
for the next kernel.
When the second kernel tries to add its values for these properties,
the export via /proc/device-tree is hidden by the pre-existing but
stale values from the flat tree. Kexec userspace reads the old
property, allocates the new kernel at the old kernel's end, and
gets rejected by the overlap check.
Search and remove these stale properties before adding the new values.

to the fact that phys_addr_t is now defined in linux/types.h. The second
is due to the fact that the DMA code changes expose memstart_addr to
prom_init.c

I noticed, when trying to use, e.g.,
node = find_node_by_prop_value(prev, "booleanprop", "", 0))
to search for all nodes with a certain boolean property, that memcmp()
returns garbage when comparing zero bytes. It should return zero.

Adjust amount to reserve based on previous nodes for reserves spanning
multiple nodes. Check if the node active range is empty before attempting
to pass the reserve to bootmem. In practice the range shouldn't be empty,
but to be sure we check.

The issue is the SPU code is not holding the kernel mutex lock while
adding samples to the kernel buffer.
This patch creates per SPU buffers to hold the data. Data
is added to the buffers from in interrupt context. The data
is periodically pushed to the kernel buffer via a new Oprofile
function oprofile_put_buff(). The oprofile_put_buff() function
is called via a work queue enabling the funtion to acquire the
mutex lock.
The existing user controls for adjusting the per CPU buffer
size is used to control the size of the per SPU buffers.
Similarly, overflows of the SPU buffers are reported by
incrementing the per CPU buffer stats. This eliminates the
need to have architecture specific controls for the per SPU
buffers which is not acceptable to the OProfile user tool
maintainer.
The export of the oprofile add_event_entry() is removed as it
is no longer needed given this patch.
Note, this patch has not addressed the issue of indexing arrays
by the spu number. This still needs to be fixed as the spu
numbering is not guarenteed to be 0 to max_num_spus-1.

The pfn of the memory to be removed should be validated prior to
attempting to remove the memory. In cases where the probe of a
memory section fails during hotplug add, the pfn for the lmb may
not be valid.

If the vmlinux binary in memory is larger than 4 MiB than it collides
with the initial boot code which is linked at 4 MiB in case of cuBoot.
If the the uncompressed image size (on disk size) is less than 4 MiB
then it would fit. The difference between those two sizes is the bss
section. In cuBoot we have the dtb embedded right after the data
section so it is very likely that the reset of the bss section (in
kernel's start up code) will overwrite the dtb blob. Therefore we
reallocate the dtb. Something similar is allready done to the initrd.

Separate building of corgi_ssp.c, and introduce a new hidden config option
CONFIG_CORGI_SSP_DEPRECATED for this. Aslo mark corgi_ts.c and corgi_bl.c
as deprecated.
This unbreaks the legacy configs in {corgi,spitz}_defconfig, however, SPI
based ADS7846 touchscreen driver and a new SPI-based corgi_lcd.c driver
with integrated backlight support are recommended.

With most file readers (eg cat, dd), reading a context's regs file will
result in two reads: the first to read the data, and the second to
return EOF. Because each read performs a spu_acquire_saved, we end up
descheduling and re-scheduling the context twice.
This change does a simple check to see if we'd return EOF before
calling spu_acquire_saved(), saving the extra schedule operation.

Currently, read() on the sputrace log will block until the read buffer
is full. This makes it difficult to retrieve the end of the buffer, as
the user will need to read with the right-sized buffer.
In a similar method as 91553a1b5e0df006a3573a88d98ee7cd48a3818a, this
change makes the switch_log return if there has already been data
read.

Currently, we use ctx->mapping_lock and ctx->switch_log->lock for the
context switch log. The mapping lock only prevents concurrent open()s,
so we require the switch_lock->lock for reads.
Since writes to the switch log buffer occur on context switches, we're
better off synchronising with the state_mutex, which is held during a
switch. Since we're serialised througout the buffer reads and writes,
we can use the state mutex to protect open and release too, and
can now kfree() the log buffer on release. This allows us to perform
the switch log notify without taking any extra locks.
Because the buffer is only present while the file is open, we can use
it to prevent multiple simultaneous openers.

Currently, read() on the sputrace buffer will only return data when
the user buffer is exhausted. This may mean that we never see the
end of the event log, unless we read() with exactly the right-sized
buffer.
This change makes sputrace_read not block if we have data ready to
return.

Currently, sputrace will start logging to the event buffer before the
log buffer has been open()ed. This results in a heap of "lost samples"
warnings if the sputrace file hasn't yet been opened.
Since the buffer is reset on open() anyway, there's no need to enable
logging when no-one has opened the log.
Because open clears the log, make it return EBUSY for mutliple open
calls.

This adds the ability to mmap legacy IO space to the legacy_io files
in sysfs on platforms that support it. This will allow to clean up
X to use this instead of /dev/mem for legacy IO accesses such as
those performed by Int10.
While at it I moved pci_create/remove_legacy_files() to pci-sysfs.c
where I think they belong, thus making more things statis in there
and cleaned up some spurrious prototypes in the ia64 pci.h file

This patch updates the Intel Ibex Peak (PCH) LPC and SMBus Controller
DeviceIDs.
The LPC Controller ID is set by Firmware within the range of
0x3b00-3b1f. This range is included in pci_ids.h using min and max
values, and irq.c now has code to handle the range (in lieu of 32
additions to a SWITCH statement).
The SMBus Controller ID is a fixed-value and will not change.

Due to confusion between the ftrace infrastructure and the gcc profiling
tracer "ftrace", this patch renames the config options from FTRACE to
FUNCTION_TRACER. The other two names that are offspring from FTRACE
DYNAMIC_FTRACE and FTRACE_MCOUNT_RECORD will stay the same.
This patch was generated mostly by script, and partially by hand.

The usage of elfcorehdr_addr has changed recently such that being set to
ELFCORE_ADDR_MAX is used by is_kdump_kernel() to indicate if the code is
executing in a kernel executed as a crash kernel.
However, arch/ia64/kernel/setup.c:reserve_elfcorehdr will rest
elfcorehdr_addr to ELFCORE_ADDR_MAX on error, which means any subsequent
calls to is_kdump_kernel() will return 0, even though they should return
1.
Ok, at this point in time there are no subsequent calls, but I think its
fair to say that there is ample scope for error or at the very least
confusion.
This patch add an extra state, ELFCORE_ADDR_ERR, which indicates that
elfcorehdr_addr was passed on the command line, and thus execution is
taking place in a crashdump kernel, but vmcore can't be used for some
reason. This is tested for using is_vmcore_usable() and set using
vmcore_unusable(). A subsequent patch makes use of this new code.
To summarise, the states that elfcorehdr_addr can now be in are as follows:
ELFCORE_ADDR_MAX: not a crashdump kernel
ELFCORE_ADDR_ERR: crashdump kernel but vmcore is unusable
any other value: crash dump kernel and vmcore is usable

o elfcorehdr_addr is used by not only the code under CONFIG_PROC_VMCORE
but also by the code which is not inside CONFIG_PROC_VMCORE. For
example, is_kdump_kernel() is used by powerpc code to determine if
kernel is booting after a panic then use previous kernel's TCE table.
So even if CONFIG_PROC_VMCORE is not set in second kernel, one should be
able to correctly determine that we are booting after a panic and setup
calgary iommu accordingly.
o So remove the assumption that elfcorehdr_addr is under
CONFIG_PROC_VMCORE.
o Move definition of elfcorehdr_addr to arch dependent crash files.
(Unfortunately crash dump does not have an arch independent file
otherwise that would have been the best place).
o kexec.c is not the right place as one can Have CRASH_DUMP enabled in
second kernel without KEXEC being enabled.
o I don't see sh setup code parsing the command line for
elfcorehdr_addr. I am wondering how does vmcore interface work on sh.
Anyway, I am atleast defining elfcoredhr_addr so that compilation is not
broken on sh.

This patch implements a new freezer subsystem in the control groups
framework. It provides a way to stop and resume execution of all tasks in
a cgroup by writing in the cgroup filesystem.
The freezer subsystem in the container filesystem defines a file named
freezer.state. Writing "FROZEN" to the state file will freeze all tasks
in the cgroup. Subsequently writing "RUNNING" will unfreeze the tasks in
the cgroup. Reading will return the current state.
* Examples of usage :

# mkdir /containers/0
# echo $some_pid > /containers/0/tasks

This is the basic mechanism which should do the right thing for user space
task in a simple scenario.
It's important to note that freezing can be incomplete. In that case we
return EBUSY. This means that some tasks in the cgroup are busy doing
something that prevents us from completely freezing the cgroup at this
time. After EBUSY, the cgroup will remain partially frozen -- reflected
by freezer.state reporting "FREEZING" when read. The state will remain
"FREEZING" until one of these things happens:
1) Userspace cancels the freezing operation by writing "RUNNING" to
the freezer.state file
2) Userspace retries the freezing operation by writing "FROZEN" to
the freezer.state file (writing "FREEZING" is not legal
and returns EIO)
3) The tasks that blocked the cgroup from entering the "FROZEN"
state disappear from the cgroup's set of tasks.

This patch series introduces a cgroup subsystem that utilizes the swsusp
freezer to freeze a group of tasks. It's immediately useful for batch job
management scripts. It should also be useful in the future for
implementing container checkpoint/restart.

Rewrite the vmap allocator to use rbtrees and lazy tlb flushing, and
provide a fast, scalable percpu frontend for small vmaps (requires a
slightly different API, though).
The biggest problem with vmap is actually vunmap. Presently this requires
a global kernel TLB flush, which on most architectures is a broadcast IPI
to all CPUs to flush the cache. This is all done under a global lock. As
the number of CPUs increases, so will the number of vunmaps a scaled
workload will want to perform, and so will the cost of a global TLB flush.
This gives terrible quadratic scalability characteristics.
Another problem is that the entire vmap subsystem works under a single
lock. It is a rwlock, but it is actually taken for write in all the fast
paths, and the read locking would likely never be run concurrently anyway,
so it's just pointless.
This is a rewrite of vmap subsystem to solve those problems. The existing
vmalloc API is implemented on top of the rewritten subsystem.
The TLB flushing problem is solved by using lazy TLB unmapping. vmap
addresses do not have to be flushed immediately when they are vunmapped,
because the kernel will not reuse them again (would be a use-after-free)
until they are reallocated. So the addresses aren't allocated again until
a subsequent TLB flush. A single TLB flush then can flush multiple
vunmaps from each CPU.
XEN and PAT and such do not like deferred TLB flushing because they can't
always handle multiple aliasing virtual addresses to a physical address.
They now call vm_unmap_aliases() in order to flush any deferred mappings.
That call is very expensive (well, actually not a lot more expensive than
a single vunmap under the old scheme), however it should be OK if not
called too often.
The virtual memory extent information is stored in an rbtree rather than a
linked list to improve the algorithmic scalability.
There is a per-CPU allocator for small vmaps, which amortizes or avoids
global locking.
To use the per-CPU interface, the vm_map_ram / vm_unmap_ram interfaces
must be used in place of vmap and vunmap. Vmalloc does not use these
interfaces at the moment, so it will not be quite so scalable (although it
will use lazy TLB flushing).
As a quick test of performance, I ran a test that loops in the kernel,
linearly mapping then touching then unmapping 4 pages. Different numbers
of tests were run in parallel on an 4 core, 2 socket opteron. Results are
in nanoseconds per map+touch+unmap.

In a slightly more realistic test (although with an older and less
scalable version of the patch), I ripped the not-very-good vunmap batching
code out of XFS, and implemented the large buffer mapping with vm_map_ram
and vm_unmap_ram... along with a couple of other tricks, I was able to
speed up a large directory workload by 20x on a 64 CPU system. I believe
vmap/vunmap is actually sped up a lot more than 20x on such a system, but
I'm running into other locks now. vmap is pretty well blown off the
profiles.

There is nothing architecture specific about remove_memory().
remove_memory() function is common for all architectures which support
hotplug memory remove. Instead of duplicating it in every architecture,
collapse them into arch neutral function.

The pinmux management is tied in to this code, while it is presently only
used by platforms that select GENERIC_GPIO. The asm/gpio.h definitions
are not referenced when GENERIC_GPIO is disabled, resulting in a build
failure for all of the platforms that don't select it.

As requested by Ian make state restore only if it's requested
by platform data: some platforms do correctly save the state of
the chip during suspend/resume, but some (like tosa) incorrectly
power off the chip at suspend, so the driver supports restoring
some bits of the tc6393xb state (not full, merely enough to support
resume on tosa). With this patch this code is disabled by default.

On the mv78xx0 development board, eth2 and eth3 do not have
corresponding PHYs, but are internally connected, as a way of
facilitating communication between the two CPU cores. Since there are
no PHYs, we need to tell the network driver explicitly to force the
link on eth2 and eth3 up, to 1000 Mb/s full duplex.

The current Intel IOMMU code assumes that both host page size and Intel
IOMMU page size are 4KiB. The first patch supports variable page size.
This provides support for IA64 which has multiple page sizes.
This patch also adds some other code hooks for IA64 platform including
DMAR_OPERATION_TIMEOUT definition.

The driver would like to map IO space directly for copying data in when
appropriate, to avoid CPU cache flushing for streaming writes.
kmap_atomic_pfn lets us avoid IPIs associated with ioremap for this process.

Madison cpus support 64 TR registers. Increase IA64_TR_ALLOC_MAX
to 64. Also fixup the messages that get printed when this limit

The patch contains Intel IOMMU IA64 specific code. It defines new
machvec dig_vtd, hooks for IOMMU, DMAR table detection, cache line flush
function, etc.
For a generic kernel with CONFIG_DMAR=y, if Intel IOMMU is detected,
dig_vtd is used for machinve vector. Otherwise, kernel falls back to
dig machine vector. Kernel parameter "machvec=dig" or "intel_iommu=off"
can be used to force kernel to boot dig machine vector.

This patch implements a checker to detect instructions which
should be paravirtualized instead of direct writing raw instruction.
This patch does rough check so that it doesn't fully cover all cases,
but it can detects most cases of paravirtualization breakage of hand
written assembly codes.

This patch enables elf note based xen startup for IA-64, which gives the
kernel an early hint for running on xen like x86 case.
In order to avoid the multi entry point, presumably extending booting
protocol(i.e. extending struct ia64_boot_param) would be necessary.
It probably means that elilo also needs modification.

On ia64/xen, pointer arguments for hypercall is passed
by pseudo physical address(guest physical address.)
So such hypercalls needs address conversion functions.

On ia64/xen, pointer argument for the hypercall is passed
by pseudo physical address (guest physical address.)
So it is necessary to convert virtual address into pseudo physical
address right before issuing hypercall. The frame work is called
xencomm. This patch implements arch specific part.

Create include/asm-ia64/pvclock-abi.h to compile which contains
the same definitions of include/asm-x86/pvclock-abi.h because ia64/xen
uses same structure.
Hopefully include/asm-x86/pvclock-abi.h would be moved to somewhere
more generic.
Another approach is to include include/asm-x86/pvclock-abi.h
from include/asm-ia64/pvclock-abi.h. But this would break
if/when x86 header files are moved under arch/x86.
So for now, same definitions are duplicated as suggested by Tony.

This adds a common board file for almost all of the "simple" PowerPC 40x
boards that exist today. This is intended to be a single place to add
support for boards that do not differ in platform support from most of the
evaluation boards that are used as reference platforms. Boards that have
specific requirements or custom hardware setup should still have their own
board.c file.
The first board ported to this is the AMCC PowerPC 405EZ Acadia board.

Add the base DTS for the AMCC PowerPC 405EZ Acadia evalution board.
In addition to some of the normal PPC 40x peripherals, the Acadia
board has:
- 64 MiB PSRAM
- NOR and NAND flash
- Two USB 1.1 host ports
- Two CAN 2.0 ports
- ADC and DAC connectors
- LCD display
This adds the basic platform support to build from.

x86 ACPI: Fix breakage of resume on 64-bit UP systems with SMP kernel
We are now using per CPU GDT tables in head_64.S and the original
early_gdt_descr.address is invalidated after boot by
setup_per_cpu_areas(). This breaks resume from suspend to RAM on
x86_64 UP systems using SMP kernels, because this part of head_64.S
is also executed during the resume and the invalid GDT address
causes the system to crash. It doesn't break on 'true' SMP systems,
because early_gdt_descr.address is modified every time
native_cpu_up() runs. However, during resume it should point to the
GDT of the boot CPU rather than to another CPU's GDT.
For this reason, during suspend to RAM always make
early_gdt_descr.address point to the boot CPU's GDT.
This fixes http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11568, which
is a regression from 2.6.26.

Use the generic pci_enable_resources() instead of the arch-specific code.
Unlike this arch-specific code, the generic version:
- checks PCI_NUM_RESOURCES (11), not 6, resources
- skips resources that have neither IORESOURCE_IO nor IORESOURCE_MEM set
- skips ROM resources unless IORESOURCE_ROM_ENABLE is set
- checks for resource collisions with "!r->parent"

On some more HP laptops BIOS reports an IRQ0 override
but the SB600 chipset is configured such that timer
interrupts go to INT0 of IOAPIC.
Check IRQ0 routing and if it is routed to INT0 of IOAPIC skip the
timer override.

them. In general ->strategy hook should know what it's doing, and don't

Currently, it is possible to set a graphics VESA mode at boot time via the
vga= parameter even when no framebuffer driver supporting this is
configured. This could lead to the system booting with a black screen,
without a usable console.
Fix this problem by only allowing to set graphics modes at boot time if a
supporting framebuffer driver is configured.

Add a pin configuration callback for the s3c24xx SPI driver, as there are
several options depending on the channel and the chip in use.
This is needed as the controller may not have been setup by the initial
bootloader and the fact that the SPI controller gets reset over
suspend/resume into slave mode but the GPIO function registers do not.

This series of patches re-introduces the iommu_num_pages function so that
it can be used by each architecture specific IOMMU implementations. The
series also changes IOMMU implementations for X86, Alpha, PowerPC and
UltraSparc. The other implementations are not yet changed because the
modifications required are not obvious and I can't test them on real
hardware.

Nothing arch specific in get/settimeofday. The details of the timeval
conversion varied a little from arch to arch, but all with the same
results.
Also add an extern declaration for sys_tz to linux/time.h because externs
in .c files are fowned upon. I'll kill the externs in various other files
in a sparate patch.

struct stat / compat_stat is the same on all architectures, so
cp_compat_stat should be, too.
Turns out it is, except that various architectures have slightly and some
high2lowuid/high2lowgid or the direct assignment instead of the
SET_UID/SET_GID that expands to the correct one anyway.
This patch replaces the arch-specific cp_compat_stat implementations with
a common one based on the x86-64 one.

It's somewhat unlikely that it happens, but right now a race window
between interrupts or machine checks or oopses could corrupt the tainted
bitmap because it is modified in a non atomic fashion.
Convert the taint variable to an unsigned long and use only atomic bit
operations on it.
Unfortunately this means the intvec sysctl functions cannot be used on it
anymore.
It turned out the taint sysctl handler could actually be simplified a bit
(since it only increases capabilities) so this patch actually removes
code.

Print the name of the last-accessed sysfs file when we oops, to help track
down oopses which occur in sysfs store/read handlers. Because these oopses
tend to not leave any trace of the offending code in the stack traces.

The sparseirq patches introduced some more ugliness in show_interrupts().
Clean it up all together and make the code easier to read by splitting out

Use APIC_DIVISOR being set to 16 for both 32/64bit
mode. To escape APIC timer underflow during calibration
set it to the maximum possible value.
Also typo error (CONFG instead of proper CONFIG) fixed.

Fix problem caused by reordering of the calls to uv_cpu_init() &
uv_system_init. Originally, uv_cpu_init() was called AFTER uv_system_init.
This order was recently broken as a side-effect of other patches.
With this patch, initialization of cpu 0 is now done by the system_init
call.

By changing printout form we are able to shrink (and clean up) code a bit.
Former printout example:

Initialize a per CPU HPET MSI timer when possible. We retain the HPET
timer 0 (IRQ 0) and timer 1 (IRQ 8) as is when legacy mode is being used. We
setup the remaining HPET timers as per CPU MSI based timers. This per CPU
timer will eliminate the need for timer broadcasting with IRQ 0 when there
is non-functional LAPIC timer across CPU deep C-states.
If there are more CPUs than number of available timers, CPUs that do not
find any timer to use will continue using LAPIC and IRQ 0 broadcast.

APIC_ARBPRI is a reserved register for XAPIC and beyond.
APIC_RRR is a reserved register except for 82489DX, APIC for Pentium processors.
APIC_EOI is a write only register.
APIC_DFR is reserved in x2apic mode.
Access to these registers in x2apic will result in #GP fault. Fix these
apic register accesses.

There are a handful of loops that go from 0 to nr_irqs and use
get_irq_desc() on them. These would allocate all the irq_desc
entries, regardless of the need for them.
Use the smarter for_each_irq_desc() iterator that will only iterate
over the present ones.

add CONFIG_HAVE_SPARSE_IRQ to for use condensed array.
Get rid of irq_desc[] array assumptions.
Preallocate 32 irq_desc, and irq_desc() will try to get more.
( No change in functionality is expected anywhere, except the odd build
failure where we missed a code site or where a crossing commit itroduces
new irq_desc[] usage. )

Until now, NR_IRQS was derived from black magic defines that had to
be "large enough" to both accomodate NR_CPUS and MAX_NR_IO_APICs.
This resulted in a way too large irq_desc[] array on most x86 systems.
Especially with larger CPU masks, the size of irq_desc can spiral out
of control quickly.
So be smarter about it and use precise allocation instead: determine the
default maximum possible IRQ number from the ACPI MADT. Use a minimum limit
of at least 32 IRQs for broken BIOSes.

As policy->governor is already set to CPUFREQ_DEFAULT_GOVERNOR in the
(always built-in) cpufreq core, we do not need to set it in the drivers.
This fixes the sparc64 allmodconfig build failure.
Also, remove a totally useles setting of ->policy in cpufreq-pxa3xx.c.

KVM-x86 dumps a lot of debug messages that have no meaning for normal
operation:
- INIT de-assertion is ignored
- SIPIs are sent and received
- APIC writes are unaligned or < 4 byte long
(Windows Server 2003 triggers this on SMP)
Degrade them to true debug messages, keeping the host kernel log clean
for real problems.

The PIC code makes little effort to avoid kvm_vcpu_kick(), resulting in
unnecessary guest exits in some conditions.
For example, if the timer interrupt is routed through the IOAPIC, IRR
for IRQ 0 will get set but not cleared, since the APIC is handling the
acks.
This means that everytime an interrupt < 16 is triggered, the priority
logic will find IRQ0 pending and send an IPI to vcpu0 (in case IRQ0 is
not masked, which is Linux's case).
Introduce a new variable isr_ack to represent the IRQ's for which the
guest has been signalled / cleared the ISR. Use it to avoid more than
one IPI per trigger-ack cycle, in addition to the avoidance when ISR is
set in get_priority().

Allow guest pagetables to go out of sync. Instead of emulating write
accesses to guest pagetables, or unshadowing them, we un-write-protect
the page table and allow the guest to modify it at will. We rely on
invlpg executions to synchronize individual ptes, and will synchronize
the entire pagetable on tlb flushes.

There is not much point in write protecting large mappings. This
can only happen when a page is shadowed during the window between
is_largepage_backed and mmu_lock acquision. Zap the entry instead, so
the next pagefault will find a shadowed page via is_largepage_backed and
fallback to 4k translations.
Simplifies out of sync shadow.

implementation, it is often called VT-i2 techonology.
With VTi-2 support, virtulization performance should be

Convert gfn_to_pfn to use get_user_pages_fast, which can do lockless
pagetable lookups on x86. Kernel compilation on 4-way guest is 3.7%

This patch enables PCI device assignment based on VT-d support.
When a device is assigned to the guest, the guest memory is pinned and
the mapping is updated in the VT-d IOMMU.
[Amit: Expose KVM_CAP_IOMMU so we can check if an IOMMU is present
and also control enable/disable from userspace]

The ISA IRQ renumbering broke the Viper ISA code in interesting ways.
It originally assumed that ISA interrupt were numbered in the order that
is defined by the CPLD registers. Unfortunately, this is no longer the
case.
Furthermore, the viper_irq_handler() function being a chained IRQ
handler, it must ACK the interrupt by itself, or the handler will be
immediately reentered, with the expected damages.
This fix was made possible thanks to the help of David Raeman, who
provided debug information and tested each version of this patch.

The patch below changes register_pci_controller() such that controllers
being added after pcibios_init() has run are be scanned immediately.
This is needed for example by the BCM47xx PCI controller, which is located
on the SSB bus, which is now initialized after the PCI subsystem.
