Otherwise the config function uses random data from the stack. This
didn't stick out because config is called once more in the chipselect
function with correct parameters.

Support two new half-duplex SPI implementation restrictions, for links
that talk to TX-only or RX-only devices. (Existing half-duplex flavors
support both transfer directions, just not at the same time.)
Move spi_async() into the spi.c core, and stop inlining it. Then make
that function perform error checks and reject messages that demand more
than the underlying controller can support.
Based on a patch from Marek Szyprowski which did this only for the
bitbanged GPIO driver.

tAdd adds McSPI support for OMAP4430 SDP platform. All the base addresses
are changed between OMAP1/2/3 and OMAP4. The fields of the resource
structures are filled at runtime to have McSPI support on OMAP4.

Previous restore was lazy and only restored CHxCONF when it was needed by
a specific chip select. This could cause occasional errors on an SPI bus
where multiple chip selects are in use.

With the update to the spi_bitbang driver, the transfer setup code is
being called more often, and thus is often re-doing calculations that have
been done before. The SPI layer allows our driver to add its own data to
each device so add a result cache to each device.
This should also remove the problem where we where directly setting up
registers in the setup call which meant we might overwrite the state of an
extant transfer.,

With this patch spi drivers can use standard spi_driver.id_table and
MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE() mechanisms to bind against the devices. Just like
we do with I2C drivers.
This is useful when a single driver supports several variants of devices
but it is not possible to detect them in run-time (like non-JEDEC chips
probing in drivers/mtd/devices/m25p80.c), and when platform_data usage is
overkill.
This patch also makes life a lot easier on OpenFirmware platforms, since
with OF we extensively use proper device IDs in modaliases.

The definition of the SPI clock phase for the Motorola mode of
the PL022 driver was incorrect: the spec had been interpreted as
data being recieved on rising or falling edge of the clocks while
the correct interpretation is that data can be recieved on the
first or second edge transition, falling or rising depending on
the polarity setting.

Since the changes to the bitbang driver, there is the possibility we will
be called with either the speed_hz or bpw values zero. We take these to
mean that the default values (8 bits per word, or maximum bus speed).

Currently the clock rate calculation may round as pleased, which means
that it is possible that we will round down and end up with a faster clock
rate than intended.
Change the calculation to use DIV_ROUND_UP() to ensure that we end up with
a clock rate either the same as or lower than the user requested one.

When data is read through DMA, the last element must be read separately
through the RX register. It cannot be transferred by the DMA. For
further details see e.g. OMAP35x TRM (table 19-16).
Without the fix the driver causes extra clocks to be clocked to the bus
after DMA RX operations. This can cause interesting behaviour with some
devices.

Bugfix to spi_bitbang infrastructure: make sure to always set transfer
parameters on the first pass through the message's per-transfer loop.
This can matter with drivers that replace the per-word or per-buffer
transfer primitives, on busses with multiple SPI devices.
Previously, this could have started messages using the settings left after
previous messages. The problem was observed when a high speed chip
(m25p80 type flash) was running very slowly because a low speed device
(avr8 microcontroller) had previously used the bus. Similar faults could
have driven the low speed device too fast, or used an unexpected word
size.

Add a new spi_master.flags word listing constraints relevant to that
controller. Define the first constraint bit: a half duplex restriction.
Include that constraint in the OMAP1 MicroWire controller driver.
Have the mmc_spi host be the first customer of this flag. Its coding
relies heavily on full duplex transfers, so it must fail when the
underlying controller driver won't perform them.
(The spi_write_then_read routine could use it too: use the
temporarily-withdrawn full-duplex speedup unless this flag is set, in
which case the existing code applies. Similarly, any spi_master
implementing only SPI_3WIRE should set the flag.)

Add two new spi_device.mode bits to accomodate more protocol options, and
pass them through to usermode drivers:
* SPI_NO_CS ... a second 3-wire variant, where the chipselect
line is removed instead of a data line; transfers are still
full duplex.
This obviously has STRONG protocol implications since the
chipselect transitions can't be used to synchronize state
transitions with the SPI master.
* SPI_READY ... defines open drain signal that's pulled low
to pause the clock. This defines a 5-wire variant (normal
4-wire SPI plus READY) and two 4-wire variants (READY plus
each of the 3-wire flavors).
Such hardware flow control can be a big win. There are ADC
converters and flash chips that expose READY signals, but not
many host controllers support it today.
The spi_bitbang code should be changed to use SPI_NO_CS instead of its
current nonportable hack. That's a mode most hardware can easily support
(unlike SPI_READY).

mpc83xx_spi_work() is quite large, with up to five indentation levels and
is quite difficult to read.
So, split the function in two parts:
1. mpc83xx_spi_work() now only traverse queued spi messages;
2. mpc83xx_spi_do_one_msg() only manages single messages.
There should be no functional changes.

When a platform is running at high frequencies it's not always possible to
scale-down a frequency to a requested value, and using mmc_spi driver this
leads to the following printk flood during card polling:

With this patch we'll able to select spi_mpc83xx driver on the MPC86xx
platforms. Let the driver depend on FSL_SOC, so we don't have to worry
about Kconfig anymore.
Also remove the "experimental" dependency, the driver has been tested to
work on a various hardware, and surely not experimental anymore.

introduce chipselect GPIO to simplify the common cases") introduces
chipselect GPIO, and configures the CS polarity using SPI_CS_HIGH
spi->mode flag. Add SPI_CS_HIGH to the allowed modes.

mpc52xx_psc_spi driver is the last user of the legacy activate_cs and
deactivate_cs callbacks, so convert the driver to the cs_control hook and
remove the legacy callbacks from fsl_spi_platform_data struct.

Move some common spi_setup() error checks into the SPI framework from the
spi_master controller drivers:
- Add a new "mode_bits" field to spi_master
- Use that in spi_setup to validate the spi->mode value being
requested. Setting this new field is now mandatory for any
controller supporting more than vanilla SPI_MODE_0.
- Update all spi_master drivers to:
* Initialize that field
* Remove current spi_setup() checks using that value.
This is a net minor code shrink.

Start moving some spi_setup() functionality into the SPI core from the
various spi_master controller drivers:
- Make that function stop being an inline;
- Move two common idioms from drivers into that new function:
* Default bits_per_word to 8 if that field isn't set
* Issue a standardized dev_dbg() message
This is a net minor source code shrink, and supports enhancments found in
some follow-up patches.

Move all the gpio functions out of <mach/hardware.h> as
this file is for defining the generic IO base addresses
for the kernel IO calls.
Make a new header <mach/gpio-fns.h> to take this and
include it via the chain from <linux/gpio.h> which is
what most of these files should be using (and will be
changed as soon as possible).
Note, this does make minor changes to some drivers but
should not mess up any pending merges.

On line 944 the return value of flush() is considered as a boolean,
but limit reaches -1 upon timeout which evaluates to true.
On 540, 594, 720 the same occurs for wait_ssp_rx_stall()

If DMA is enabled, any spi_sync call after suspend/resume would block
forever, because DRCMR is lost on suspend. This patch restores DRCMR to
the same values set by probe.

The "simplify spi_write_then_read()" patch included two regressions from
the 2.6.27 behaviors:
- The data it wrote out during the (full duplex) read side
of the transfer was not zeroed.
- It fails completely on half duplex hardware, such as
Microwire and most "3-wire" SPI variants.
So, revert that patch. A revised version should be submitted at some
point, which can get the speedup on standard hardware (full duplex)
without breaking on less-capable half-duplex stuff.

1. Rewrite of the non-dma data transfer functions to use only ONE mode
of TIMOD (TIMOD=0x1). With TIMOD=0, it was not possible to set the TX
bit pattern. So the TDBR = 0xFFFF inside the read calls won't work.
2. Clear SPI_RDBR before reading and before duplex transfer.
Otherwise the garbage data in RDBR will get read. Since mmc_spi uses a
lot of duplex transfers, this is the main cause of mmc_spi failure.
3. Poll RXS for transfer completion. Polling SPIF or TXS cannot
guarantee transfer completion. This may interrupt a transfer before it
is finished. Also this may leave garbage data in buffer and affect
next transfer.

Add support for GPIO controlled SPI Chip Selects. To make use of this
feature, set chip_select = 0 and add a proper cs_gpio to your
controller_data.

There are various SPI devices that require SPI MODE_0, and need to have
the Chip Selects asserted during the entire transfer. Consider using

According to comments in linux/spi/spi.h:
* All SPI transfers start with the relevant chipselect active. Normally
* it stays selected until after the last transfer in a message. Drivers
* can affect the chipselect signal using cs_change.
*
* (i) If the transfer isn't the last one in the message, this flag is
* used to make the chipselect briefly go inactive in the middle of the
* message. Toggling chipselect in this way may be needed to terminate
* a chip command, letting a single spi_message perform all of group of
* chip transactions together.
*
* (ii) When the transfer is the last one in the message, the chip may
* stay selected until the next transfer. On multi-device SPI busses
* with nothing blocking messages going to other devices, this is just
* a performance hint; starting a message to another device deselects
* this one. But in other cases, this can be used to ensure correctness.
* Some devices need protocol transactions to be built from a series of
* spi_message submissions, where the content of one message is determined
* by the results of previous messages and where the whole transaction
* ends when the chipselect goes intactive.

This bug can be observed when two SPI devices are sharing the spi bus: One
device is set as SPI CS 7, another one is using SPI CS 4.
In spi_bfin5xx.c: cs_active(), cs_deactive() are used to control SPI_FLG
register. From the debug bellow:
cs_active: flag: 0x7f91, chip->flag: 0x7f80, cs: 7
cs_active: flag: 0xef91, chip->flag: 0xef10, cs: 4
When device A (cs_7) activate CS 7, SPI_FLG is set as 0x7f91 (however,
SPI_FLG should be set as 0x7f80, or 0x6f91 if in broadcast mode).
Due to some HW bug (very possibly), if SPI_FLG is set as 0x7f91, SPISSEL7
is asserted, however SPISSEL4 will be asserted too (I can see this using
the scope). This is unreasonable according to HRM.

When using a BF533-STAMP here with a W25X10 SPI flash. It works fine when
enable_dma is disabled, but doesn't work at all when turning DMA on. We
get just 0xff bytes back when trying to read the device.
Change the code around so that it programs the SPI first and then enables
DMA, it seems to work a lot better ...

Change spi-gpio so that it is possible to drive SPI communications over
GPIO without the need for a chipselect signal.
This is useful in very small setups where there's only one slave device
on the bus.
This patch does not affect existing setups.
I use this for a tiny communication channel between an embedded device and
a microcontroller. There are not enough GPIOs available for chipselect
and it's not needed anyway in this case.

The main purpose of this patch is to pass 'struct spi_device' to the chip
select handling routines. This is needed so that we could implement
full-fledged OpenFirmware support for this driver.
While at it, also:
- Replace two {de,activate}_cs routines by single cs_contol().
- Don't duplicate platform data callbacks in mpc83xx_spi struct.

1. Driver code where pxa_request_dma() is called will most likely
reference DMA registers as well, and it is really unnecessary
to include pxa-regs.h just for this. Move the definitions into
<mach/dma.h> and make relevant drivers include it instead of
<mach/pxa-regs.h>.
2. Introduce DMAC_REGS_VIRT as the virtual address base for these
DMA registers. This allows later processors to re-use the same
IP while registers may start at different I/O address.

For some reason I have to slowdown clock to touchscreen device.
In atmel_spi_setup() there is comment that max_speed_hz == 0 means as slow
as possible and divider is set to maximum value. But in
atmel_spi_transfer() function is check against not zero max_speed_hz with
EINVAL returned.
Probably driver should setup divider for each transfer based on
transfer->speed_hz value, but I think that would be not necessary overhead
as all used devices have constant clock.
Below patch works fine for me.

This fixes a byteswap bug in the LM70 temperature sensor driver,
which was previously covered up by a converse bug in the driver
for the LM70EVAL-LLP board (which is also fixed).
Other fixes: doc updates, remove an annoying msleep(), and improve
three-wire protocol handling.

This solves several issues:
* It fixes the wrong idle clock polarity issue in a cleaner and less
expensive way.
* It handles the AT32AP7000 errata "SPI Chip Select 0 BITS field
overrides other Chip Selects". Other chips, e.g. AT91SAM9261, have
similar issues.
Currently, the AT91RM9200 code path is left alone. But it might be
interesting to try the same technique on RM9200 using a different CSR
register.

Currently, we have a flag called "new_1" which is basically equivalent
to cpu_is_at91rm9200(). The latter is also called directly a few places.
Clean up this mess by introducing a atmel_spi_v2() function for
determining the controller version, and move all version dependent code
over to use it. This allows us to remove the new_1 flag.

Generalize the old at91rm9200 "bootstrap" bitbanging SPI master driver as
"spi_gpio", so it works with arbitrary GPIOs and can be configured through
platform_data. Such SPI masters support:
- any number of bus instances (bus_num is the platform_device.id)
- any number of chipselects (one GPIO per spi_device)
- all four SPI_MODE values, and SPI_CS_HIGH
- i/o word sizes from 1 to 32 bits;
- devices configured as with any other spi_master controller
When configured using platform_data, this provides relatively low clock
rates. On platforms that support inlined GPIO calls, significantly
improved transfer speeds are also possible with a semi-custom driver.
(It's still painful when accessing flash memory, but less so.)
Sanity checked by using this version to replace both native controllers on
a board with six different SPI slaves, relying on three different
SPI_MODE_* values and both SPI_CS_HIGH settings for correct operation.

Fix unsafe order in dma mapping operation: always flush data from the
cache *BEFORE* invalidating it, to allow full duplex transfers where the
same buffer may be used for both writes and reads. Tested with mmc-spi.

According to the manual the "tdfOnExit" flag must be set on the last byte
we want to send. The PSC controller holds SS low until the flag is set.
However, the flag was set always on the last byte of the FIFO,
independently if it is the last byte of the transfer. This generates
spurious toggling of the SS signals that breaks the protocol of some
peripherals. Fix.

When ISA_DMA_API is unset, we're not implementing the ISA DMA API,
so there's no point in publishing the prototypes via asm/dma.h, nor
including the machine dependent parts of that API.
This allows us to remove a lot of mach/dma.h files which don't contain
any useful code. Unfortunately though, some platforms put their own
private non-ISA definitions into mach/dma.h, so we leave these behind
and fix the appropriate #include statments.

Fixes a data corruption bug in pxa2xx_spi.c when operating in full duplex
mode with DMA and using buffers that overlap.
SPI transmit and receive buffers are allowed to be the same or to overlap.
However, this driver fails if such overlap is attempted in DMA mode
because it maps the rx and tx buffers in the wrong order. By mapping
DMA_FROM_DEVICE (read) before DMA_TO_DEVICE (write), it invalidates the
cache before flushing it, thus discarding data which should have been
transmitted.
The patch corrects the order of mapping. This bug exists in all versions
of pxa2xx_spi.c; similar bugs are in the drivers for two other SPI
controllers (au1500, imx).
A version of this patch has been tested on kernel 2.6.20 using
verification of loopback data with: random transfer length, random
bits-per-word, random positive offsets (both larger and smaller than
transfer length) between the start of the rx and tx buffers, and varying
clock rates.

We're working with an AT91SAM9263 Rev B in our design and I experienced
some inconsistency in spi-based touchscreen usage between our board and
the Atmel evaluation kit we have that runs on a Rev A chip.
The data was apparently delayed by 1 byte and got ridiculous data out of
the touchscreen driver, very strange. As everything looked normal in
the spi, touchscreen and dma logs, I contacted the Atmel support and
they triggered me on a new HW bug that appeared in the Rev B SPI
controller.
The problem is that the SPI controller on the Rev B needs that the
software reset is performed two times so that it's performed correctly.
Applying the patch below solves the issue on my Rev B board. I've tested
it as well on my Rev A evaluation kit and it has apparently no unwanted
side effect, things continue to work as expected.

Make the SPI external GPIO expander drivers register themselves at
subsys_initcall() time when they're statically linked, and make the SPI
core do its driver model initialization earlier so that's safe.
SOC-integrated GPIOs are available starting very early -- often before
initcalls start to run, or earily in arch_initcall() at latest -- so this
improves consistency, letting more subsystems rely on GPIOs being usable
by their own subsys_initcall() code.

Make the chip info structure data optional by providing reasonable
defaults. Improve corresponding documentation, and highlight the drawback
of not providing explicit chipselect control.
DMA can determine appropriate dma_burst_size and thresholds automatically
so use DMA even if dma_burst_size is not specified.

Add a pin configuration callback for the s3c24xx SPI driver, as there are
several options depending on the channel and the chip in use.
This is needed as the controller may not have been setup by the initial
bootloader and the fact that the SPI controller gets reset over
suspend/resume into slave mode but the GPIO function registers do not.

The register definitions have been changed for the mpc5200 PSC ports
to cover some of the changes in the mpc5200b. One change is that the
ccr register is now a u32 instead of a u16. However, for the purposes
of this driver we want to continue to use 16 bit access to avoid
changing the existing (working) behaviour.
This patch allows the driver to continue to do 16 bit accesses without
the compiler complaining about it.
