Use tty_port_init and krefs in the stallion drivers to protect us from devices
going away underneath us. As with the other drives some rearranging is done to
pass the tty structure down properly on the user side.

Rather than blindly keep taking krefs we reorder the code in a few places
to pass the tty down to the right place (which is important as from the user
side it is not the case that tty == port->tty in all situations). For the irq
and related paths use the krefs to stop the tty being freed under us.

Use kref in the USB serial drivers so that we don't free tty structures
from under the URB receive handlers as has historically been the case if
you were unlucky. This also gives us a framework for general tty drivers to
use tty_port objects and refcount.
Contains two err->dev_err changes merged together to fix clashes in the
-next tree.

We now return a kref covered tty reference. That ensures the tty structure
doesn't go away when you have a return from get_current_tty. This is not
enough to protect you from most of the resources being freed behind your
back - yet.

We always use the real tty one for stuff so the pty one should not be
compared. As we propagate window changes to both it doesn't currently
matter but will when we tidy up the pty termios logic a bit more

We need a way to describe the various additional modes and flow control
features that random weird hardware shows up and software such as wine
wants to emulate as Windows supports them.
TCGETX/TCSETX and the termiox ioctl are a SYS5 extension that we might as
well adopt. This patches adds the structures and the basic ioctl interfaces
when the TCGETX etc defines are added for an architecture. Drivers wishing
to use this stuff need to add new methods.

This came in via another tree and unfortunately is rather broken on
the tty side. Comment the apparent locking problems for someone who knows
the driver to look at.
Fix the termios and other ioctl handling. The driver was calling the wrong
methods for what it wanted to do but the right ones existed so its a simple
fix up.

The tty layer keeps driver module counts that are used so the driver knows
when it can be unloaded. For obvious reasons we want to tie that to the
refcounting properly.
At this point the driver side itself isn't refcounted nicely but we can do
that later and kref the drivers.

Right now we have ifdefs and hooks in the core ioctl handler for TIOCLINUX
and then test if its a console. This is brain dead. Instead call the
tioclinux helper from the relevant driver ioctl methods.

Nozomi assumes the close method isn't called if open errors. The tty layer

Data read from a TTY can contain an embedded NUL byte (e.g. after
pressing Ctrl-2, or sent to a PTY). After the previous patch, the data
would be logged only up to the first NUL.
This patch modifies the AUDIT_TTY record to always use the hexadecimal
format, which does not terminate at the first NUL byte. The vast
majority of recorded TTY input data will contain either ' ' or '\n', so
the hexadecimal format would have been used anyway.

add_timer() is not supposed to be called when the timer is pending.
ip2 driver attempts to avoid that condition by setting and resetting
a flag (TimerOn) in timer function. But there is some gap between
add_timer() and setting TimerOn.
This patch fix this problem by using mod_timer() and remove TimerOn
which has been unnecessary by this change.

The call to put_tty_driver is out of place and is applied to the wrong
argument.
The function enclosing the patched code calls alloc_tty_driver and stores
the result in drv. Subsequently, there are two occurrences of error
handling code, one making a goto to put_tty and one making a goto to
stop_thread. At the point of the first one the assignment hvc_driver = drv
has not yet been executed, and from inspecting the rest of the file it
seems that hvc_driver would be NULL. Thus the current call to
put_tty_driver is useless, and one applied to drv is needed. The goto
stop_thread is in the error handling code for a call to
tty_register_driver, but the error cases in tty_register_driver do not free
its argument, so it should be done here. Thus, I have moved the put_tty
label after the stop_thread label, so that put_tty_driver is called in both
cases.

On x86 systems with CONFIG_HPET_TIMER enabled, when
the HPET driver (drivers/char/hpet.c) is loaded,
an incorrect busy message is printed when the driver
initializes since the HPET has already been allocated
by the core timer code. Remove the warning message.

* Implement disk_devt() and part_devt() and use them to directly
access devt instead of computing it from ->major and ->first_minor.
Note that all references to ->major and ->first_minor outside of
block layer is used to determine devt of the disk (the part0) and as
->major and ->first_minor will continue to represent devt for the
disk, converting these users aren't strictly necessary. However,
convert them for consistency.
* Implement disk_max_parts() to avoid directly deferencing
genhd->minors.
* Update bdget_disk() such that it doesn't assume consecutive minor
space.
* Move devt computation from register_disk() to add_disk() and make it
the only one (all other usages use the initially determined value).
These changes clean up the code and will help disk->part dereference
fix and extended block device numbers.

The tty_find_polling_driver() routine did not correctly check the base
part of the tty name. This can lead to kgdboc selecting an incorrect
driver, as well as accepting a completely invalid tty such as "echo
ffff0 > /sys/module/kgdboc/parameters/kgdboc".

Add a new Kconfig option SECURITYFS which will build securityfs support
but does not require CONFIG_SECURITY. The only current user of
securityfs does not depend on CONFIG_SECURITY and there is no reason the
full LSM needs to be built to build this fs.

Kanru Chen posted a patch versus the old code which deals with the case
where you resize the pty side of a pty/tty pair. In that situation the
termios data is updated for both pty and tty but the locks are not held
for the right side.
This implements the fix differently against the updated tty code. Patch
by self but the hard bit (noticing and fixing the bug) is thanks to Kanru
Chen.

The pageattr-array patch that you currently have in tip/master only
enables it for intel-agp, not the others. The attached enables it for
all drivers currently directly using agp_generic_alloc_page() and
agp_generic_destroy_page() (ocal driver is amd-k7-agp).
The new agp_generic_alloc_pages() interface uses the also new
pageattr array interface API. This makes all AGP drivers that
up to now used generic_{alloc,destroy}_page() use it.

Use incoming network tuple as seed for NAT port randomization.
This avoids concerns of leaking net_random() bits, and also gives better

also means that resize can be picked up by um and other non vt consoles
which may have a resize operation.

To reduce tlb/cache flush, makes agp memory allocation do one flush
after all pages in a region are changed to uc.
All agp drivers except agp-sgi uses agp_generic_alloc_page()
for .agp_alloc_page, so the patch should work for them. agp-sgi is only
for ia64, so not a problem too.

around the padlock instructions fix the oops.

These padlock instructions though don't use/touch SSE registers, but it behaves
similar to other SSE instructions. For example, it might cause DNA faults
when cr0.ts is set. While this is a spurious DNA trap, it might cause
oops with the recent fpu code changes.
This is the code sequence that is probably causing this problem:
a) new app is getting exec'd and it is somewhere in between
start_thread() and flush_old_exec() in the load_xyz_binary()
b) At pont "a", task's fpu state (like TS_USEDFPU, used_math() etc) is
cleared.
c) Now we get an interrupt/softirq which starts using these encrypt/decrypt
routines in the network stack. This generates a math fault (as
cr0.ts is '1') which sets TS_USEDFPU and restores the math that is
in the task's xstate.
d) Return to exec code path, which does start_thread() which does
free_thread_xstate() and sets xstate pointer to NULL while
the TS_USEDFPU is still set.
e) At the next context switch from the new exec'd task to another task,
we have a scenarios where TS_USEDFPU is set but xstate pointer is null.
This can cause an oops during unlazy_fpu() in __switch_to()
Now:
1) This should happen with or with out pre-emption. Viro also encountered
similar problem with out CONFIG_PREEMPT.
2) kernel_fpu_begin() and kernel_fpu_end() will fix this problem, because
kernel_fpu_begin() will manually do a clts() and won't run in to the
situation of setting TS_USEDFPU in step "c" above.
3) This was working before the fpu changes, because its a spurious
math fault which doesn't corrupt any fpu/sse registers and the task's
math state was always in an allocated state.
With out the recent lazy fpu allocation changes, while we don't see oops,
there is a possible race still present in older kernels(for example,
while kernel is using kernel_fpu_begin() in some optimized clear/copy
page and an interrupt/softirq happens which uses these padlock
instructions generating DNA fault).
This is the failing scenario that existed even before the lazy fpu allocation
changes:
0. CPU's TS flag is set
1. kernel using FPU in some optimized copy routine and while doing
kernel_fpu_begin() takes an interrupt just before doing clts()
2. Takes an interrupt and ipsec uses padlock instruction. And we
take a DNA fault as TS flag is still set.
3. We handle the DNA fault and set TS_USEDFPU and clear cr0.ts
4. We complete the padlock routine
5. Go back to step-1, which resumes clts() in kernel_fpu_begin(), finishes
the optimized copy routine and does kernel_fpu_end(). At this point,
we have cr0.ts again set to '1' but the task's TS_USEFPU is stilll
set and not cleared.
6. Now kernel resumes its user operation. And at the next context
switch, kernel sees it has do a FP save as TS_USEDFPU is still set
and then will do a unlazy_fpu() in __switch_to(). unlazy_fpu()
will take a DNA fault, as cr0.ts is '1' and now, because we are
in __switch_to(), math_state_restore() will get confused and will
restore the next task's FP state and will save it in prev tasks's FP state.
Remember, in __switch_to() we are already on the stack of the next task
but take a DNA fault for the prev task.
This causes the fpu leakage.
Fix the padlock instruction usage by calling them inside the
context of new routines irq_ts_save/restore(), which clear/restore cr0.ts
manually in the interrupt context. This will not generate spurious DNA
in the context of the interrupt which will fix the oops encountered and
the possible FPU leakage issue.

hvc_console: rework setup to replace irq functions with callbacks
introduced a spinlock recursion problem.
request_irq tries to call the handler if the IRQ is shared.
The irq handler of hvc_console calls hvc_poll and hvc_kill
which might take the hvc_struct spinlock. Therefore, we have
to call request_irq outside the spinlock.
We can move the notifier_add safely outside the spinlock as ->data must
not be changed by the backend. Otherwise, tty_hangup would fail anyway.

On my Intel chipset (965GM), the GTT is entirely erased across
suspend/resume. This patch simply re-plays the current mapping at resume
time to restore the table.=20
I noticed this once I started relying on persistent GTT mappings across VT
switch in our GEM work -- the old X server and DRM code carefully unbind
all memory from the GTT on VT switch, but GEM does not bother.
I placed the list management and rewrite code in the generic layer on the
assumption that it will be needed on other hardware, but I did not add the
rewrite call to anything other than the Intel resume function.
Keep a list of current GATT mappings. At resume time, rewrite them into
the GATT. This is needed on Intel (at least) as the entire GATT is
cleared across suspend/resume.

I think the intent was that if no bridges matched agp_amd64_pci_table[],
we would fall back to checking for any bridge with the AGP capability.
But in the current code, we execute the fallback path only when
pci_register_driver() itself fails, which is unrelated to whether any
matching devices were found.
This patch counts the AGP bridges found in the probe() method and executes
the fallback path when none is found.

Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception: panic_on_oops
It seems that tty was already free in disassocate_ctty when it tries
to dereference tty->driver.
After moving the lock_kernel before the mutex_unlock, I can no longer
reproduce the problem.
[ This is a temporary partial fix for the documented and long standing
race in disassociate_tty. This stops most problem cases for now.
For the next release the -next tree has an initial implementation of
kref counting for tty structures and this quickfix will be dropped.

This driver was declared obsolete over 2 years ago, the alternative
console driver for legacy iSeries (hvc_iseries) was made the default
over 1 year ago and this driver has been build broken for over 3
months, so remove it.

The bogus code to call into the n_tty layer got removed in commit
8bc5fb6abb ("Remove bogons from the
iSeries console"), but it left a now uninitialized "return ret;" around.
Not that this code has ever even compiled since the BKL pushdown, since
not only is "ret" no longer initialized, it was never actually declared
even originally.
Replace it with a "return -ENOIOCTLCMD"

The iSeries driver calls into the n_tty ldisc code directly for some
bizarre reason. I previously tagged this with a query but this actually
does need fixing as n_tty methods when you have a different ldisc set are
not a good thing to call.
In n_tty mode this change should have no effect, the core tty layer has
always called the ldisc ioctl method *anyway* and will call the one for
the right ldisc.

2.6.26 corrected the mutex locking on tty resizing to fix the case where
you could get the tty/vt sizing out of sync. That turns out to have a
deadlock.
The actual fix is really major and I've got it lined up as part of the ops
changes for 2.6.28 so for 2.6.26/2.6.27 it is safer to reintroduce this
ages old minor bug.

Currently function tty_ldisc_get() tries to load an ldisc driver module
only when tty_ldisc_try_get() returns -EAGAIN. This happens only if
module is being unloaded. If ldisc module is not loaded
tty_ldisc_try_get() returns -EINVAL and this case is not handled in
tty_ldisc_get(), so request_module() is not called.
Attached patch fixes this by calling request_module() if
tty_ldisc_try_get() returned any error code.
I discovered this when my UMTS modem stopped working with 2.6.27-rc1
because module ppp_async was not loaded.

Plus, add a FIXME comment for something that could cause big trouble
on systems with more capable HPETs than at least Intel seems to ship.
It seems that few folk use this userspace interface; it's not very
usable given the general lack of HPET IRQ routing. I'm told that
the only real point of it any more is to mmap for fast timestamps;
IMO that's handled better through the gettimeofday() vsyscall.

ipwireless: Increase PPP outgoing queue size
Increase default size of PPP outgoing queue. Currently set to 1, which
means that a packet quickly following another pushed by PPP must wait
until hardware actually sends the previous and PPP has to be waken up
by ppp_wakeup(). This slows down upstream.
Now PPP can push more packets at once which get buffered inside driver
and pushed immediatelly to hardware when previous packet is out.
Experiments show that size = 10 is quite good for all connection types
(GPRS/EDGE/UMTS) and gains 4 KB/sec of upload for UMTS for batch uploads.
Need for higher queue size than 10 occures in only < 0.1 % of cases.

Do not return value from do_send_fragment and do_send_packet, it's not used.
The packet size checks are not useful too:
* zero length packet will never be sent, caller always passes packet_header
size which is either 1 or 3
* MTU check is done in caller, no need to repeat

This patch increases size of driver internal response buffers. Some TPM
responses defined in TCG TPM Specification Version 1.2 Revision 103 have
increased size and do not fit previously defined buffers. Some TPM
responses do not have fixed size, so bigger response buffers have to be
allocated. 200B buffers should be enough.

This patch tries to change hvc_console to not use request_irq/free_irq if
the backend does not use irqs. This allows virtio_console to use hvc_console
without having a linker reference to request_irq/free_irq.
In addition, together with patch 2/3 it improves the performance for virtio
console input. (an earlier version of this patch was tested by Yajin on lguest)
The irq specific code is moved to hvc_irq.c and selected by the drivers that
use irqs (System p, System i, XEN).
I replaced "int irq" with the opaque "int data". The request_irq and
free_irq calls are replaced with notifier_add and notifier_del. I have also
changed the code a bit to call the notifier_add and notifier_del inside the
spinlock area as the callbacks are found via hp->ops.
Changes since last version:
o remove ifdef
o reintroduce "irq_requested" as "notified"
o cleanups, sparse..
I did not move the timer based polling into a separate polling scheme. I
played with several variants, but it seems we need to sleep/schedule in
a thread even for irq based consoles, as there are throttleing and buffer
size constraints.
I also kept hvc_struct defined in hvc_console.h so that hvc_irq.c can access
the irq_requested element.
Feedback is appreciated. virtio_console is currently the only available console
for kvm on s390. I plan to push this change as soon as all affected parties
agree on it. I would love to get test results from System p, Xen etc.

When CONFIG_HPET_EMULATE_RTC is defined the external declaration of
hpet_rtc_interrupt is redundant due to the inclusion of hpet.h.
When !CONFIG_HPET_EMULATE_RTC we make it clear that hpet_rtc_interrupt is
not used by defining it to return zero.

vt.c DO_UPDATE macro checks if the console is visible but doesn't check if
the console is blanked.
In fact updating fbcon while the console is blanked is not only
unnecessary but can even cause screen corruption.
Therefore I am adding a simple check on console_blanked in DO_UPDATE.

On 32-bit architectures PAGE_ALIGN() truncates 64-bit values to the 32-bit
boundary. For example:
u64 val = PAGE_ALIGN(size);
always returns a value < 4GB even if size is greater than 4GB.
The problem resides in PAGE_MASK definition (from include/asm-x86/page.h for
example):

#define PAGE_SIZE (_AC(1,UL) << PAGE_SHIFT)
#define PAGE_MASK (~(PAGE_SIZE-1))
...
#define PAGE_ALIGN(addr) (((addr)+PAGE_SIZE-1)&PAGE_MASK)
The "~" is performed on a 32-bit value, so everything in "and" with
PAGE_MASK greater than 4GB will be truncated to the 32-bit boundary.
Using the ALIGN() macro seems to be the right way, because it uses
typeof(addr) for the mask.
Also move the PAGE_ALIGN() definitions out of include/asm-*/page.h in
include/linux/mm.h.

Add run time control for receive DMA buffer fill level to allow
application to control receive latency when using stream oriented serial
protocols that pass receive data to application only after a DMA buffer
fills. This was previously a compile time option, but run time control is
needed when application changes data rate (and latency requirements) or
uses different data rates on different ports.

Leave the transmitter in reset state after configuration so that transmit
signal is held at mark until transmitter is explicitly enabled by
application, otherwise transmitter sends idle pattern.

Improve the accuracy of TIOCOUTQ value as implemented in chars_in_buffer()
method by walking and counting tx DMA buffers, reading controller tx FIFO
level and accounting for controller tx shift register. The greatly
improves application control of transmit latency at lower data rates.

Fix the epca driver to call epca_setup() if digiepca=xxx is included on the
command line and the epca driver is built in.
epca_setup() used to be called from init/main.c in 2.2 kernels, but somewhere

Fix the Stallion driver's putchar() and break_ctl() ops and iStallion's
putchar() to return values.
Is it actually possible for putchar() or break_ctl() to be called with tty ==
NULL or can the check be discarded?
Should stl_write() be returning 0 if tty->driver_data is NULL or tx.buf is
NULL? Is this even possible?
I've made Stallion's functions return -EINVAL as stli_breakctl() if the checks
fail.

Every tty driver has its own concept of a port structure and because
they all differ we cannot extract commonality. Begin fixing this by
creating a structure drivers can elect to use so that over time we can
push fields into this and create commonality and then introduce common
methods.

Move the line disciplines towards a conventional ->ops arrangement. For
the moment the actual 'tty_ldisc' struct in the tty is kept as part of
the tty struct but this can then be changed if it turns out that when it
all settles down we want to refcount ldiscs separately to the tty.
Pull the ldisc code out of /proc and put it with our ldisc code.

CONFIG_NONPROMISC_DEVMEM was a rather confusing name - but renaming it
to CONFIG_PROMISC_DEVMEM causes problems on architectures that do not
support this feature; this patch renames it to CONFIG_STRICT_DEVMEM,
so that architectures can opt-in into it.
( the polarity of the option is still the same as it was originally; it
needs to be for now to not break architectures that don't have the
infastructure yet to support this feature)

This revamps the apm-emulation code to get suspend notifications
regardless of what way pm_suspend() was invoked, whether via the
apm ioctl or via /sys/power/state. Also do some code cleanup and
add comments while at it.

Adds a character driver for BSR support on IBM POWER systems including
Power5 and Power6. The BSR is an optional processor facility not currently
implemented by any other processors. It's primary purpose is fast large SMP
synchronization. More details on the BSR are in comments to the code which
follows. This patch adds BSR driver to pseries_defconfig.

Fix up trivial conflicts with BKL removal in drivers/char/dsp56k.c and
drivers/char/ip2/ip2main.c manually.
With the coming of kernel based modesetting and the memory manager stuff,
the everything in one directory approach was getting very ugly and
starting to be unmanageable.
This restructures the drm along the lines of other kernel components.
It creates a drivers/gpu/drm directory and moves the hw drivers into
subdirectores. It moves the includes into an include/drm, and
sets up the unifdef for the userspace headers we should be exporting.

This patch corrects the handling of write operations to the IPMI watchdog
to work as intended by returning the number of characters actually
processed. Without this patch, an "echo V >/dev/watchdog" enables the
watchdog if IPMI is providing the watchdog function.

The IRQ rate reported back by the RTC is incorrect when HPET is enabled.
Newer hardware that has HPET to emulate the legacy RTC device gets this value
wrong since after it sets the rate, it returns before setting the variable
used to report the IRQ rate back to users of the device -- so the set rate and
the reported rate get out of sync.

When scheduled swaps occur, we need to blit between front & back
buffers. If the buffers are tiled, we need to set the appropriate
XY_SRC_COPY tile bit, but only on 965 chips, since it will cause
corruption on pre-965 (e.g. 945).

On 9xx chips, bus mastering needs to be enabled at resume time for much of the
chip to function. With this patch, vblank interrupts will work as expected
on resume, along with other chip functions. Fixes kernel bugzilla #10844.

All of the open() functions which don't need the BKL on their face may
still depend on its acquisition to serialize opens against driver
initialization. So make those functions acquire then release the BKL to be
on the safe side.

Texture uploads could hit the blitter coordinate limit, adjust the texture
offset when uploading the pieces. Make sure to check the end address of the

besides it apparently being useful only in 2.6.24 (the changes in 2.6.25
really mean that it could be converted back to a single-stage mechanism),
I'm seeing an issue in Xen Dom0 kernels, which is caused by the calling
of gart_to_virt() in the second stage invocations of the destroy function.
I think that besides this being a real issue with Xen (where
unmap_page_from_agp() is not just a page table attribute change), this
also is invalid from a theoretical perspective: One should not assume that
gart_to_virt() is still valid after unmapping a page. So minimally (keeping
the 2-stage mechanism) a patch like the one below would be needed.

This enforces us to use the drm ioctl types so read/write works correctly and not believe
what userspace tells us.
It does this hopefully without breaking the drm api.

More Kconfig tweaks related to the legacy PC RTC code:
- Describe the legacy PC RTC driver as such ... it's never quite
been clear that this driver is for PC RTCs, and now it's fair
to call this the "legacy" driver.
- Force it to understand about HPET stealing its IRQs ... kernel
code does this always when HPET is in use, there should be no
option for users to goof up the config.
This seems to fix kernel bugzilla #10729.

Since many distros load this driver by default (throw it against the wall
and see what sticks method). Change the error message severity level to
avoid alarming users. Isn't it annoying when users actually read the
error logs...
