The Freescale MPIC (and perhaps others in the future) is incapable of
routing non-IPI interrupts to more than once CPU at a time. Currently
all of the Freescale boards msut pass the MPIC_SINGLE_DEST_CPU flag to
mpic_alloc(), but that information should really be present in the
device-tree.
Older board code can't rely on the device-tree having the property set,
but newer platforms won't need it manually specified in the code.

The MPIC code checks for a "big-endian" property and sets the flag
MPIC_BIG_ENDIAN if one is present, although prior to the "mpic->flags"
fixup that would never have worked anways.
Unfortunately, even now that it works properly, the Freescale mpic
device-node (the "PowerQUICC-III"-compatible one) does not specify it,
so all of the board ports need to manually pass it to mpic_alloc().
Document the flag and add it to the pq3 device tree. Existing code will
still need to pass the MPIC_BIG_ENDIAN flag because their dtb may not
have this property, but new platforms shouldn't need to do so.

Because newly offlined CPUs continue executing after completing the
CPU_DYING notifiers, they legitimately enter the scheduler and use
RCU while appearing to be offline. This calls for a more sophisticated
approach as follows:
1. RCU marks the CPU online during the CPU_UP_PREPARE phase.
2. RCU marks the CPU offline during the CPU_DEAD phase.
3. Diagnostics regarding use of read-side RCU by offline CPUs use
RCU's accounting rather than the cpu_online_map. (Note that
__call_rcu() still uses cpu_online_map to detect illegal
invocations within CPU_DYING notifiers.)
4. Offline CPUs are prevented from hanging the system by
force_quiescent_state(), which pays attention to cpu_online_map.
Some additional work (in a later commit) will be needed to
guarantee that force_quiescent_state() waits a full jiffy before
assuming that a CPU is offline, for example, when called from
idle entry. (This commit also makes the one-jiffy wait
explicit, since the old-style implicit wait can now be defeated
by RCU_FAST_NO_HZ and by rcutorture.)
This approach avoids the false positives encountered when attempting to
use more exact classification of CPU online/offline state.

Add documentation of CONFIG_RCU_CPU_STALL_VERBOSE, CONFIG_RCU_CPU_STALL_INFO,
and RCU_STALL_DELAY_DELTA. Describe multiple stall-warning messages from
a single stall, and the timing of the subsequent messages. Add headings.
Remove RCU_SECONDS_TILL_STALL_RECHECK because this value is now computed
at runtime from RCU_CPU_STALL_TIMEOUT, so that sysfs changes to the timeout
value now directly affect the RCU_SECONDS_TILL_STALL_RECHECK value.

Add module parameters to rcutorture that induce a CPU stall.
The stall_cpu parameter specifies how long to stall in seconds,
defaulting to zero, which indicates no stalling is to be undertaken.
The stall_cpu_holdoff parameter specifies how many seconds after
insmod (or boot, if rcutorture is built into the kernel) that this
stall is to start. The default value for stall_cpu_holdoff is ten
seconds.

The torture.txt documentation gives an example rcutorture run with a
100-second duration. This is ridiculously short, unless maybe testing
a fix for a egregious bug. Use a more-realistic one-hour duration for
the example.

When rcutorture is started automatically at boot time, it might well
also start CPU-hotplug operations at that time, which might not be
desirable. This commit therefore adds an rcutorture parameter that
allows CPU-hotplug operations to be held off for the specified number
of seconds after the start of boot.

Resitance is futile. The remaining static model quirks for Apple
machines with ALC882-compatible codecs are converted to the auto-parser

Finally the all static quirks for ALC880 are converted to the
auto-parser. Since we are never sure whether the BIOS on so many old
machines are really correct, the quirk table entries are copied as
they are, but just providing the proper pin-config values
accordingly.
Since alc880_quirks.c is removed, alc882_quirks.c has to be adjusted
slightly to be built again. There might be some compile warnings due
to the remaining alc882 quirks, but these shall be killed sooner or
later, I don't care it much at this point.

It turned out that BIOS on most of ASUS mobo's set the pin-config tables
reasonably well for the auto-parser. We'd need GPIO setups, but should
work as is other than that.

ASUS Z71V has a totally broken BIOS setup (at least the info I got),

Arrange for the deallocation of a struct domain_device object when it no

The comment about domain_device lifetime in
Documentation/scsi/libsas.txt is stale as it appears mainline never had
a version of a struct domain_device that was registered as a kobject.
We now manage domain_device reference counts on behalf of external
agents.

The Medion W810 with ALC880 has a typical BIOS bug, copying the
pin-defaults without disabling the unused pins. At least, the pin
0x17 must be disabled. Also, it requires GPIO-2 setup.

ALC880 model=lg could work fine with the auto-parser due to the recent
rewrite, but it still needs the manual adjustment; namely, the BIOS leaves
unused pins as some real active jacks. This confuses the parser.
Thus we just cover these pins and override the pin-configs as a fix-up.

The support for Replacer 627V in the auto-parser needs the unique unsol
event handling: although the machine has a single output pin 0x0f, it's
used for both the headphone and the speaker, and the driver needs to
toggle the output route via GPIO 1.
In addition, it needs a special COEF setup with 0x3050.

The ALC260 model=acer needs GPIO1 setup. It could be selected well
if the codec SSID is set properly by BIOS, but to make sure, enable it
forcibly.

The model=will for ALC260 requires the pin 0x0f to be a headphone and
some special verbs for the COEF to turn on the amp. Now added these as
fixup entries and removed the static model quirk.

For a process to entirely disable Yama ptrace restrictions, it can use
the special PR_SET_PTRACER_ANY pid to indicate that any otherwise allowed
process may ptrace it. This is stronger than calling PR_SET_PTRACER with
pid "1" because it includes processes in external pid namespaces. This is
currently needed by the Chrome renderer, since its crash handler (Breakpad)
runs external to the renderer's pid namespace.

generic control involving both muxing and configuration we begin
refactoring by renaming them from pinmux_* to pinctrl_*.

This breaks out a <linux/pinctrl/consumer.h> header to be used by
all pinmux and pinconfig alike, so drivers needing services from
pinctrl does not need to include different headers. This is similar

The way the different freeze/thaw functions encapsulate each other are quite
lovely from a design point of view. And as a side-effect, the way in which
they are invoked (cleaning up on failure for example) differs significantly
from how usual functions are dealt with. This is because of the underlying
semantics that govern the freezing and thawing of various tasks.
This subtle aspect that differentiates these functions from the rest, is
worth documenting.

To track authenticated state seems to have been
a design mistake in cfg80211. It is possible to
have out of band authentication (FT), tracking
multiple authentications caused more problems
than it ever helped, and the implementation in
mac80211 is too complex.
Remove all this complexity, and let userspace
do whatever it wants to, mac80211 can deal with
that just fine. Association is still tracked of
course, but authentication no longer is. Local
auth state changes are thus no longer of value,
so ignore them completely.
This will also help implement SAE -- asking the
driver to do an authentication is now almost
equivalent to sending an authentication frame,
with the exception of shared key authentication
which is still handled completely.

The argument is not used at all, and it's not necessary, because
a specific callback handler of course knows which subsys it
belongs to.
Now only ->pupulate() takes this argument, because the handlers of
this callback always call cgroup_add_file()/cgroup_add_files().
So we reduce a few lines of code, though the shrinking of object size
is minimal.

The current device suspend/resume phases during system-wide power
transitions appear to be insufficient for some platforms that want
to use the same callback routines for saving device states and
related operations during runtime suspend/resume as well as during
system suspend/resume. In principle, they could point their
.suspend_noirq() and .resume_noirq() to the same callback routines
as their .runtime_suspend() and .runtime_resume(), respectively,
but at least some of them require device interrupts to be enabled
while the code in those routines is running.
It also makes sense to have device suspend-resume callbacks that will
be executed with runtime PM disabled and with device interrupts
enabled in case someone needs to run some special code in that
context during system-wide power transitions.
Apart from this, .suspend_noirq() and .resume_noirq() were introduced
as a workaround for drivers using shared interrupts and failing to
prevent their interrupt handlers from accessing suspended hardware.
It appears to be better not to use them for other porposes, or we may
have to deal with some serious confusion (which seems to be happening
already).
For the above reasons, introduce new device suspend/resume phases,
"late suspend" and "early resume" (and analogously for hibernation)
whose callback will be executed with runtime PM disabled and with
device interrupts enabled and whose callback pointers generally may
point to runtime suspend/resume routines.

Currently we don't utilize the sched_switch field anymore.
But, simply removing sched_switch field from the middle of the
sched_stat output will break tools.
So, to stay compatible we hardcode it to zero and remove the
field from the scheduler data structures.

Add support for generic power domain for Exynos4 platforms and remove the
Samsung specific power domain control for Exynos4.
The generic power domain infrastructure is used to control the power domains
available on Exynos4. For non-dt platforms, the power domains are statically
instantiated. For dt platforms, the power domain nodes found in the device
tree are instantiated.

Cautious admins may want to restrict access to debugfs. Currently a
manual chown/chmod e.g. in an init script is needed to achieve that.
Distributions that want to make the mount options configurable need
to add extra config files. By allowing to set the root inode's uid,
gid and mode via mount options no such hacks are needed anymore.
Instead configuration becomes straight forward via fstab.

Insert ddebug_exec_queries() in place of ddebug_exec_query(). It
splits the query string on [;\n], and calls ddebug_exec_query() on
each. All queries are processed independent of errors, allowing a
query to fail, for example when a module is not installed. Empty
lines and comments are skipped. Errors are counted, and the last
error seen (negative) or the number of callsites found (0 or positive)
is returned. Return code checks are altered accordingly.
With this, multiple queries can be given in ddebug_query, allowing
more selective enabling of callsites. As a side effect, a set of
commands can be batched in:
cat cmd-file > $DBGMT/dynamic_debug/control
We dont want a ddebug_query syntax error to kill the dynamic debug
facility, so dynamic_debug_init() zeros ddebug_exec_queries()'s return
code after logging the appropriate message, so that ddebug tables are
preserved and $DBGMT/dynamic_debug/control file is created. This
would be appropriate even without accepting multiple queries.
This patch also alters ddebug_change() to return number of callsites
matched (which typically is the same as number of callsites changed).
ddebug_exec_query() also returns the number found, or a negative value
if theres a parse error on the query.
Splitting on [;\n] prevents their use in format-specs, but selecting
callsites on punctuation is brittle anyway, meaningful and selective
substrings are more typical.
Note: splitting queries on ';' before handling trailing #comments
means that a ';' also terminates a comment, and text after the ';' is
treated as another query. This trailing query will almost certainly
result in a parse error and thus have no effect other than the error
message. The double corner case with unexpected results is:

trim_prefix(path) skips past the absolute source path root, and
returns the pointer to the relative path from there. It is used to
shorten the displayed path in $DBGMT/dynamic_debug/control via
ddebug_proc_show(), and in ddebug_change() to allow relative filenames
to be used in applied queries. For example:

trim_prefix(path) insures common prefix before trimming it, so

If V4L2_CAP_DEVICE_CAPS is set, then the new device_caps field is filled with
the capabilities of the opened device node.
The capabilities field traditionally contains the capabilities of the physical
device, being a superset of all capabilities available at the several device
nodes. E.g., if you open /dev/video0, then if it contains VBI caps then that means
that there is a corresponding vbi node as well. And the capabilities field of
both the video and vbi nodes should contain identical caps.
However, it would be very useful to also have a capabilities field that contains
just the caps for the currently open device, hence the new CAP bit and field.

Add a resource managed regulator_get() to simplify regulator

The kernel contains some special internal keyrings, for instance the DNS
resolver keyring :

It would occasionally be useful to allow the contents of such keyrings to be
flushed by root (cache invalidation).
Allow a flag to be set on a keyring to mark that someone possessing the
sysadmin capability can clear the keyring, even without normal write access to
the keyring.
Set this flag on the special keyrings created by the DNS resolver, the NFS
identity mapper and the CIFS identity mapper.

ACPI 5.0 provides extensions to the EINJ mechanism to specify the
target for the error injection - by APICID for cpu related errors,

On ISDB-T, each layer can have its own independent modulation,
applied to the carriers that belong to the segments associated
with them. So, there's no sense to define a global modulation
parameter.

The ISDB-T differs on its way to implement the hierarchical
transmissions: instead of using a low-priority/high-priority
FEC codes, it does that by using different layers, each layer
with their groups of segments. So, those parameters don't make sense
for ISDB-T.

The temp[1-*]_type attribute reports the temperature sensor type. Sensor type 1
is described as "PII/Celeron Diode", which is quite restrictive; other CPUs
may also have an embedded temperature sensor diode with similar characteristics.
Change description to "CPU embedded diode" to be more generic.

Until we get a datasheet for the IT8728F, treat it as fully compatible
with the IT8721F, as it seems to work reasonably well.

The LM63 and compatible devices have a lookup table to control the fan
speed automatically. Expose it in sysfs. Values are cached for 5
seconds, independently of the other register values to avoid slowing
down "sensors". We might make the table values writable in the future.

On LM96163, the external temperature sensor type is configurable to
either a thermal diode or a 3904 transistor. The chip reports a wrong
temperature if misconfigured. Add writable attribute to support it.

so that it is no longer possible to set the radio frequency through a video

A note on this: often people will develop a new userspace-visible
feature and will develop userspace code to exercise/test that
feature. Then they merge the patch and the selftest code dies.
Sometimes we paste it into the changelog. Sometimes the code gets
thrown into Documentation/(!).
This saddens me. So this patch creates a bare-bones framework which
will henceforth allow me to ask people to include their test apps in
the kernel tree so we can keep them alive. Then when people enhance
or fix the feature, I can ask them to update the test app too.
The infrastruture is terribly trivial at present - let's see how it
evolves.
- checkpoint/restart feature work.
A note on this: this is a project by various mad Russians to perform
c/r mainly from userspace, with various oddball helper code added
into the kernel where the need is demonstrated.
So rather than some large central lump of code, what we have is
little bits and pieces popping up in various places which either
expose something new or which permit something which is normally
kernel-private to be modified.
The overall project is an ongoing thing. I've judged that the size
and scope of the thing means that we're more likely to be successful
with it if we integrate the support into mainline piecemeal rather
than allowing it all to develop out-of-tree.
However I'm less confident than the developers that it will all
eventually work! So what I'm asking them to do is to wrap each piece
of new code inside CONFIG_CHECKPOINT_RESTORE. So if it all
eventually comes to tears and the project as a whole fails, it should
be a simple matter to go through and delete all trace of it.

The mm->start_code/end_code, mm->start_data/end_data, mm->start_brk are
involved into calculation of program text/data segment sizes (which might
be seen in /proc/<pid>/statm) and into brk() call final address.
For restore we need to know all these values. While
mm->start_code/end_code already present in /proc/$pid/stat, the rest
members are not, so this patch brings them in.
The restore procedure of these members is addressed in another patch using
prctl().

The sysctl works on the current task's pid namespace, getting and setting
its last_pid field.
Writing is allowed for CAP_SYS_ADMIN-capable tasks thus making it possible
to create a task with desired pid value. This ability is required badly
for the checkpoint/restore in userspace.
This approach suits all the parties for now.

The two memcg stats pgpgin/pgpgout have different meaning than the ones
in vmstat, which indicates that we picked a bad naming for them.

Recent tools do not want to use /proc to retrieve module information. A few
values are currently missing from sysfs to replace the information available
in /proc/modules.
This adds /sys/module/*/{coresize,initsize,taint} attributes.
TAINT_PROPRIETARY_MODULE (P) and TAINT_OOT_MODULE (O) flags are both always
shown now, and do no longer exclude each other, also in /proc/modules.
Replace the open-coded sysfs attribute initializers with the __ATTR() macro.
Add the new attributes to Documentation/ABI.

Enable/disable use of the dentry dir 'complete' flag via a mount option.
This lets the admin control whether ceph uses the dcache to satisfy
negative lookups or readdir when it has the entire directory contents in
its cache.
This is purely a performance optimization; correctness is guaranteed
whether it is enabled or not.

Enable boot partitions to be read-only locked until next power on via
a sysfs entry. There will be one sysfs entry for each boot partition:
/sys/block/mmcblkXbootY/ro_lock_until_next_power_on
Each boot partition is locked by writing 1 to its file.

Current clock gating framework disables the MCI clock as soon as the
request is completed and enables it when a request arrives. This aggressive
clock gating framework, when enabled, cause following issues:
When there are back-to-back requests from the Queue layer, we unnecessarily
end up disabling and enabling the clocks between these requests since 8MCLK
clock cycles is a very short duration compared to the time delay between
back to back requests reaching the MMC layer. This overhead can effect the
overall performance depending on how long the clock enable and disable
calls take which is platform dependent. For example on some platforms we
can have clock control not on the local processor, but on a different
subsystem and the time taken to perform the clock enable/disable can add
significant overhead.
Also if the host controller driver decides to disable the host clock too
when mmc_set_ios function is called with ios.clock=0, it adds additional
delay and it is highly possible that the next request had already arrived
and unnecessarily blocked in enabling the clocks. This is seen frequently
when the processor is executing at high speeds and in multi-core platforms
thus reduces the overall throughput compared to if clock gating is
disabled.
Fix this by delaying turning off the clocks by posting request on
delayed workqueue. Also cancel the unscheduled pending work, if any,
when there is access to card.
sysfs entry is provided to tune the delay as needed, default
value set to 200ms.

Fix up trivial conflict in lib/Makefile due to addition of CONFIG_MPI
and SIGSIG next to CONFIG_DQL addition.
Pixels were preferred units for selection rectangles over driver-dependent
units for almost all use cases. Therefore the units were fixed to pixels.

Add support for mount options to restrict access to /proc/PID/
directories. The default backward-compatible "relaxed" behaviour is left
untouched.
The first mount option is called "hidepid" and its value defines how much
info about processes we want to be available for non-owners:
hidepid=0 (default) means the old behavior - anybody may read all
world-readable /proc/PID/* files.
hidepid=1 means users may not access any /proc/<pid>/ directories, but
their own. Sensitive files like cmdline, sched*, status are now protected
against other users. As permission checking done in proc_pid_permission()
and files' permissions are left untouched, programs expecting specific
files' modes are not confused.
hidepid=2 means hidepid=1 plus all /proc/PID/ will be invisible to other
users. It doesn't mean that it hides whether a process exists (it can be
learned by other means, e.g. by kill -0 $PID), but it hides process' euid
and egid. It compicates intruder's task of gathering info about running
processes, whether some daemon runs with elevated privileges, whether
another user runs some sensitive program, whether other users run any
program at all, etc.
gid=XXX defines a group that will be able to gather all processes' info
(as in hidepid=0 mode). This group should be used instead of putting
nonroot user in sudoers file or something. However, untrusted users (like
daemons, etc.) which are not supposed to monitor the tasks in the whole
system should not be added to the group.
hidepid=1 or higher is designed to restrict access to procfs files, which
might reveal some sensitive private information like precise keystrokes
timings:

hidepid=1/2 doesn't break monitoring userspace tools. ps, top, pgrep, and
conky gracefully handle EPERM/ENOENT and behave as if the current user is
the only user running processes. pstree shows the process subtree which
contains "pstree" process.
Note: the patch doesn't deal with setuid/setgid issues of keeping
preopened descriptors of procfs files (like
https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/2/7/368). We rely on that the leaked
information like the scheduling counters of setuid apps doesn't threaten
anybody's privacy - only the user started the setuid program may read the
counters.

The rtc_calibration attribute allows user-space to get and set the
AB8500's RtcCalibration register. The AB8500 will then use the value in
this register to compensate for RTC drift every 60 seconds.

With CONFIG_DEBUG_PAGEALLOC configured, the CPU will generate an exception
on access (read,write) to an unallocated page, which permits us to catch
code which corrupts memory. However the kernel is trying to maximise
memory usage, hence there are usually few free pages in the system and
buggy code usually corrupts some crucial data.
This patch changes the buddy allocator to keep more free/protected pages
and to interlace free/protected and allocated pages to increase the
probability of catching corruption.
When the kernel is compiled with CONFIG_DEBUG_PAGEALLOC,
debug_guardpage_minorder defines the minimum order used by the page
allocator to grant a request. The requested size will be returned with
the remaining pages used as guard pages.
The default value of debug_guardpage_minorder is zero: no change from
current behaviour.

Rename mm_page_free_direct into mm_page_free and mm_pagevec_free into
mm_page_free_batched
Since v2.6.33-5426-gc475dab the kernel triggers mm_page_free_direct for
all freed pages, not only for directly freed. So, let's name it properly.
For pages freed via page-list we also trigger mm_page_free_batched event.
